LiveReacting YouTube Stream Has No Sound: How to Troubleshoot Audio

If a LiveReacting stream has no sound on YouTube, first find out whether the problem affects one viewer or everyone, then check where the audio disappears: the viewer’s device, a shared Chrome tab, LiveReacting’s selected audio input, or the outgoing stream. That sequence helps isolate the fault without changing unrelated settings.

1. Check whether the problem is local or affects the broadcast

Ask the producer whether they can hear the source audio and whether the stream sounds silent to all viewers or only to one person. Those two checks divide the problem into likely viewer-playback issues and problems in the broadcast path.

  • One viewer is affected: start with that viewer’s YouTube player, browser, and device sound settings.
  • Several viewers are affected: check the LiveReacting source, selected input, and outgoing encoder path.

If only one viewer cannot hear the stream

Ask the viewer to check the YouTube player’s volume, the browser or device volume, and the device’s sound settings. If those appear correct, have them restart the browser or device and try again. These are the viewer-side checks recommended in YouTube’s sound troubleshooting guidance.

2. Check the audio source you are sending

The next step depends on whether the stream audio comes from a shared browser tab or a microphone or camera input. Confirm the actual source before changing settings.

If you are sharing a browser tab

LiveReacting documents audio sharing for Chrome tabs. In Chrome, choose the Chrome Tab screen-share source, enable Share Audio, and then click Share. The documented audio-sharing route is a Chrome tab; selecting an entire screen or an app window is not the same route.

If you are using a microphone or camera

Check that LiveReacting has the intended audio device selected in its audio-device dropdown and that the device is active. LiveReacting’s feature description covers internal and external cameras and audio devices, including microphones. The feature was described as beta in a January 2025 post, which also notes that issues or bugs may occur.

3. Review LiveReacting’s audio quality setting

LiveReacting recommends an audio quality setting of 128k unless you know the destination platform supports higher-quality audio input. Higher settings can cause playback problems. This is a configuration worth checking if the stream’s audio is missing or behaving unexpectedly, but it is not a proven universal cause of silence.

4. Listen to the stream at the encoder

YouTube recommends checking the look and sound directly in the encoder. If the audio is already missing or bad there, inspect the audio and video sources routed into the encoder, look for encoder errors, check CPU load, and review a local archive if one is available. If the encoder output sounds healthy but viewers still hear silence, investigate the outbound Internet connection.

YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance also distinguishes problems affecting one viewer, many viewers on one network, and many viewers on different networks. That pattern can help narrow whether the issue is isolated to a device or network, or is more broadly affecting the stream.

5. Troubleshoot by symptom

What you observe Where to check first
Only one person hears silence The YouTube player volume, browser or device volume, and device sound settings; then restart the browser or device.
A shared tab is silent Use Chrome’s Chrome Tab source and enable Share Audio before clicking Share.
A microphone or camera source is silent Confirm the intended audio device is selected in LiveReacting and is active.
The encoder preview or local archive is silent Inspect the source routing, encoder errors, and CPU load.
The encoder sounds healthy but viewers report silence Check the outbound Internet connection and compare reports across viewers and networks.

6. What to include when asking for help

If the source is audible locally but the published stream remains silent, gather details before escalating to LiveReacting or YouTube support. YouTube’s live-stream guidance advises reporting persistent trouble to its team.
