Choose Stray if you want a directed adventure about a lost cat in a neon cybercity, with stealth, danger, puzzles, mysteries and a drone companion. What kind of game is Little Kitty, Big City?
Double Dagger Studio labels Little Kitty, Big City “Adventure / Story / Comedy / Tiny Open World / Sandbox.” Those labels describe its priorities better than a conventional mission-based adventure comparison does. You play Kitty, a cat trying to find the way home, but the route is deliberately full of distractions. You can pursue a task, wander away to investigate something shiny, talk with an animal, steal a snack, find a hat or simply cause a small amount of chaos.

A compact city designed for curiosity
The setting is a small urban area rather than a huge map. Its scale supports short, self-directed detours: climb around a block, inspect a back alley, look for a collectible or follow an animal’s request. The game is less about clearing a checklist in the correct order than deciding what seems interesting from moment to moment. The city is a playground, and the story gives your wandering a loose purpose without demanding that you follow it continuously.

Animal residents are “chatty” in the developer’s description, and their requests provide optional objectives. You can help friends, ignore them or create a ruckus instead. That choice is the core of the game’s comedy: the same streets support useful errands and impish behavior. Human food, naps and environmental interactions make Kitty feel like a cat first and a quest-giver’s avatar second.

What kind of game is Stray?
Annapurna presents Stray as a third-person cat adventure set in a neon-lit, decaying cybercity. The premise is direct: a lost cat must escape, investigate the unfamiliar city and uncover its mysteries. Droids and dangerous creatures occupy the world, and a small flying drone named B12 travels with you.
A directed journey rather than an open-ended sandbox
Stray still gives you room to climb, observe and explore high and low, but its environments are arranged around progression through a story. You move toward the next revelation, tool, route or encounter. The cat perspective changes how you read the spaces—rooftops, vents, ledges and narrow passages become navigational clues—yet the game generally tells you what kind of problem you are solving next.

Threats are part of the journey, not just background decoration. Nintendo’s listing identifies action, adventure, puzzle-solving and stealth elements, so expect moments where staying hidden or choosing a safe route matters. The mystery is shared with B12, whose presence gives the cat a way to communicate with the city’s residents and understand its systems. If you want tension and forward momentum, these elements give Stray a stronger fit than Little Kitty, Big City.

Little Kitty, Big City foregrounds comedy, animal friendships and small acts of chaos. Its official description emphasizes helping friends or causing a ruckus rather than fighting through a hostile world. That makes it the safer tonal choice for someone who wants a cat game to feel cozy, playful and easy to dip into.
When you are comfortable with peril
Stray has a more serious atmosphere: a lost animal is navigating a decaying city, encountering threats and trying to escape. Nintendo’s Switch listing carries the content descriptors Animated Blood and Fantasy Violence. Those labels are useful when deciding whether the game suits a particular player or household. They do not establish a formal rating for Little Kitty, Big City, and you should not infer one from the comparison.

Little Kitty, Big City’s light narrative frame
Kitty’s goal is to find a way home, but the story is intentionally compatible with detours. B12 is not merely a cosmetic sidekick: the drone accompanies the cat and helps bridge the communication gap between an animal protagonist and a machine-filled society. Pick this structure if you prefer to feel that each area and encounter is moving you toward an explanation.
Customization, collecting and photo play
Customization is a meaningful separator. Little Kitty, Big City explicitly includes unlockable Kitty customization and hat collecting, and its photo mode is part of the intended play pattern rather than an afterthought. The developer’s later updates add more ways to change Kitty and more photo-mode items, so collectors and players who enjoy staging screenshots have a clear reason to choose it.

Stray is better understood as a character-and-world adventure than as a dress-up sandbox. Its identity comes from the cat’s movement through the cybercity, the relationship with B12 and the unfolding mystery. If your buying decision starts with “How many accessories can I collect?”, Little Kitty, Big City is the more relevant answer.

Nintendo lists Stray as a one-player game and gives its Switch release date as November 19, 2024. The same listing identifies BlueTwelve Studio as developer and Annapurna Interactive as publisher. Those details describe the Switch release; they do not establish differences in performance or content on other platforms.

A November 19, 2024 announcement from 5th Planet Games recorded a physical Nintendo Switch edition of Stray for global retailers and online storefronts. The announcement listed launch prices of $39.99, €39.99 and £34.99. Those were distributor-stated launch prices at the time, not a current-price guarantee. Picture Purrfect Update
Double Dagger Studio says the free Picture Purrfect Update arrived across platforms on August 27, 2025. It adds characters, cosmetics, areas, a cat-customizing system and an expanded photo mode. New players encounter those additions within the existing story, so the update is part of the current experience rather than a separate campaign you must complete first.
Kitty’s apartment and the May 2026 Xbox update
In a May 12, 2026 Xbox Wire article, Double Dagger Studio Business Operations contributor Arsenio Navarro described a free birthday update that opened Kitty’s apartment as an explorable space and added photo-mode items, crossover cosmetics and characters, plus fixes. The article also said the game was on Xbox Game Pass at that time. Game Pass availability is subscription-dependent and can change, so treat that statement as time-specific rather than a permanent benefit.
Navarro wrote that “millions of players” had helped Kitty find the way home. That is an attributed broad statement, not an exact player count or a defined measurement, and it should not be used as a numerical comparison with Stray. No comparable official player-count statistic is established here for Stray.
Mobile version of Little Kitty, Big City
Double Dagger Studio’s mobile FAQ lists October 12, 2026 as the launch date for iPhone, iPad and Android, with China listed as coming later. Because that date and availability information can change, check the current FAQ and your device’s store before assuming the version is downloadable in your country.
