Lingering Shadow, a psychological-horror puzzle game set in a small Chinese town during the 2000s, now has a free playable demo on Steam. The demo went live on October 16, 2026, and the game has been confirmed for the October edition of Steam Next Fest. The full release remains listed as “Coming soon,” with no fixed launch date announced.
What is Lingering Shadow?
Lingering Shadow follows Lanlan, who returns to her hometown on her birthday and discovers that her father is missing. She searches familiar streets and buildings, follows environmental clues, and reconstructs fragmented memories while investigating the dark truth behind his disappearance.

SteamDB identifies the demo as Windows application 4432070, linked to the parent application 4427280, with package activity recorded on October 16, 2026. The parent game’s Steam listing still shows “Coming soon,” so the demo date should not be read as the full game’s release date.

- Select the option to download the free demo and install it on a Windows PC.
How the horror works
The game’s visual identity is built around delicate, hand-drawn 2D art. Its store description presents a “Dreamcore early-2000 atmosphere” that is nostalgic and warm but “quietly wrong.” Familiar streets can warp when Lanlan crosses between the everyday world and a surreal counterpart.

Rather than relying primarily on sudden jump scares, Lingering Shadow uses environmental distortion, memory fragments, isolation and gradual discovery to create tension. The result is a horror structure closer to a mystery adventure: players inspect spaces, connect clues and interpret what has changed.

The final decision is therefore more than a cosmetic choice: the store description says it determines which of two endings the player receives. The demo may provide an introduction to the setting and investigation, but the available information does not establish how much of the full branching structure it contains.
Developer, publisher and supported platform
Ferine Columba Studio (和平鸽工作室) developed Lingering Shadow, and 2P Games is publishing it. The developer describes the project as a small 2D hand-drawn puzzle-horror game created for Steam.
Steam lists Windows PC as the platform. The full game has not been released, so system requirements, pricing for the finished edition and any console or macOS version are not established by the current listing.
