The LILYGO TTGO T-OI Plus is an ESP32-C3 RISC-V development board with 4 MByte flash, USB Type-C, a CH340K USB-to-serial chip and a 4-pin, 2.0 mm Grove connector. LILYGO sells it in versions with or without a holder for a 16340 cell; the holder version does not include a battery. The official project documents PlatformIO, Arduino IDE and MicroPython workflows.
What the TTGO T-OI Plus includes
LILYGO describes the board as an ESP32-C3 platform with Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth 5. The ESP32-C3 uses a RISC-V CPU architecture, making this a compact option for connected sensors, controllers and other embedded projects.
| Feature | Manufacturer-listed detail |
|---|---|
| Microcontroller | ESP32-C3 |
| Flash | 4 MByte |
| Wireless | Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 5 |
| USB | USB Type-C |
| USB-to-serial | CH340K |
| Grove connector | 4 pin, 2.0 mm |
| Battery options | 16340 holder version or no-holder version |
Confirm the exact configuration when ordering: the holder and no-holder boards are separate options, and LILYGO says the battery is not supplied with the holder model.
Battery holder, charger and power limits
The official schematic shows a CR123A/16340 holder connection, a TP4054 charging device and an ME6211 regulator. A connection at the holder is labelled 500 mA in the schematic. That label is an electrical design detail, not a measured runtime, guaranteed charge time or proof of protection features for every 16340 cell.

- 【T-OI PLUS】T-OI PLUS is based on the ESP32-C3 main control chip,ESP32-C3 is a safe, low-power, low-cost RISC-V
- 【Project】T-OI Plus is more suitable for more complex projects that require better performance and additional features such as Bluetooth and USB
- 【MCU】It supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5 (BLE)

- Use a cell whose dimensions, chemistry and protection are appropriate for the board and charger.
- Do not assume a battery is included because the product name mentions a holder.
- Estimate runtime only after measuring the complete project under its actual radio, sensor and sleep workload.
Programming and software support
The LILYGO repository provides setup routes for three common environments.
PlatformIO
PlatformIO has a board definition and documentation for the TTGO T-OI PLUS. This is useful when a project needs reproducible environments, dependency management and multiple build targets.

Arduino IDE
- Install the Espressif ESP32 board package and the CH340K driver if your operating system does not already provide it.
- In Arduino IDE, select ESP32C3 Dev Module as the board target, as instructed by LILYGO.
- Connect the board with a data-capable USB Type-C cable, select the detected serial port and upload a basic test sketch.
Menu names and package behavior can change, so use the repository’s current instructions if your installed Arduino or ESP32 core presents different labels.
MicroPython
LILYGO also documents MicroPython firmware upload, including use of address 0x0. Follow the repository’s current flashing sequence and verify the selected serial device before writing firmware.

Other documented board targets
Zephyr lists a TTGO T-OI-PLUS board target. Its presence, like the PlatformIO definition, demonstrates documented ecosystem support; it does not mean every Zephyr sample, library or version has been independently tested here.
Revision note about Wi-Fi and Bluetooth resets
The project README says: “The new version has fixed the glitch that caused crystal burrs to start wifi and ble reset”. This awkwardly worded sentence is the maintainers’ own version note. It indicates that a newer revision addressed a reset-related glitch, but it is not an independently reproduced test result. If you are diagnosing resets, check the board revision and current repository notes rather than assuming all units are identical.

Using Grove and MINI D1 expansion hardware
LILYGO describes the 4-pin, 2.0 mm Grove connector as compatible with Grove modules and mentions a MINI D1 expansion shield. Grove branding alone does not guarantee that every module is electrically interchangeable.
- Check the module’s supply-voltage requirement.
- Verify whether it uses I²C, UART, digital or analog signals.
- Compare the required pins with the T-OI Plus pinout and your other peripherals.
- Confirm connector keying and cable orientation before powering the circuit.
How to decide if this board fits a project
Compare the T-OI Plus with other small ESP32-C3 boards against the constraints that affect your build, rather than choosing on the processor name alone.

| Decision point | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Battery integration | Whether a holder and charging circuit are built in, and which cell the enclosure accepts |
| Expansion | Connector pitch, signal type, voltage and required pins for each module |
| Programming | USB/serial arrangement, driver needs and documentation for your chosen framework |
| I/O | Number and electrical type of exposed pins needed by sensors, displays and controls |
| Mechanical fit | Board dimensions, mounting holes, cable clearance and battery-holder space |
Available evidence does not establish comparative power measurements, benchmark results, retail pricing or a performance winner against other ESP32-C3 boards.
What is—and is not—established about the launch
The official product page and repository establish the board’s current feature description, configurations and software documentation. They do not provide a confirmed initial launch date or a complete dated revision history. Treat “launches” in product listings as a product-identification phrase unless LILYGO publishes a dated announcement.
Bottom line for builders
The TTGO T-OI Plus is most compelling when you need an ESP32-C3 board with USB-C programming, a compact Grove connection and the option of an integrated 16340 holder. Select the holder variant only when its battery format and power design suit your project, and validate every Grove module’s voltage and pin requirements. For software, start with LILYGO’s repository and choose PlatformIO, Arduino IDE, MicroPython or a documented Zephyr target according to your workflow.
