The Canon EOS R50 is a well-documented interchangeable-lens option at a manufacturer-published 375 g, while Fujifilm’s X-M5 is a compact, video-oriented alternative with important viewfinder and stabilization trade-offs. Neither makes a universal winner: weigh the complete kit and match its features to your photography and recording habits.
What makes a camera lightweight in real use?
Compare the weight of the camera with the lens, battery, and card you plan to carry—not just the body. Canon Australia publishes the EOS R50 at 375 g, but the camera’s size is only part of a travel setup: Canon lists it with an RF-S 18-45mm lens, and also offers a twin-kit configuration that adds an RF-S 55-210mm. A longer-reach lens can help with distant subjects, but it also adds bulk and weight.

Before choosing, decide what you will photograph and record. A small body may be convenient, but viewfinder access, stabilization, autofocus, recording limits, and the size of compatible lenses all affect how practical the system is once you leave home.

Two compact options with different strengths
Canon EOS R50: an adaptable starter system
Canon Australia lists the EOS R50 with a 24.2 MP APS-C CMOS sensor, maximum 4K 30p video, a 3-inch vari-angle touchscreen, and SD UHS-II card support. It is compatible with RF and RF-S lenses; EF and EF-S lenses can be used with an adapter. Canon describes subject tracking for humans, animals, and vehicles. These are manufacturer specifications and feature descriptions, not independent comparative test results. Canon Australia’s EOS R50 specifications provide the regional details.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The single kit pairs the camera with an RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens. The twin kit adds the RF-S 55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM, giving more reach at the cost of a larger carried setup. Choose the shorter kit if portability and general-purpose shooting matter most; consider the longer lens if distant subjects are a regular part of your plans.
Fujifilm X-M5: compact and oriented toward video
TechRadar describes the X-M5 as a compact travel-video camera with 6K and open-gate recording capability. The same guide notes that it lacks both a viewfinder and in-body image stabilization. Those omissions may matter if you compose through a viewfinder in bright conditions or want sensor-based stabilization. Read TechRadar’s X-M5 coverage for its editorial assessment.

How to choose for your kind of shooting
Travel and everyday still photos
Prioritize the camera and lens combination you can comfortably carry all day. A compact standard zoom is a practical starting point for varied scenes; adding a telephoto is worthwhile only if you expect to use the extra reach. Check whether you prefer a viewfinder, and whether the screen can tilt or swing to the angles you need.

Look for subject detection and tracking that suit your subjects, then verify how the camera’s lenses support the distances you will shoot. Canon lists human, animal, and vehicle tracking for the EOS R50, but a feature listing alone does not establish how it compares with another camera in real-world conditions.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.

Self-recording and travel video
A vari-angle screen can help when filming yourself or working from changing positions; Canon lists one on the EOS R50. For higher-resolution or more flexible video workflows, the X-M5’s reported 6K and open-gate capability may be relevant, but consider its lack of a viewfinder and in-body stabilization. Also distinguish short travel clips from extended recording: Tom’s Guide warns that the EOS R50 may overheat during extended 4K recording. See Tom’s Guide’s EOS R50 coverage for that caution.
A practical checklist before buying
- Compare complete carry weight: include the intended lens and the accessories you routinely bring, and check how each manufacturer defines its published weight.
- Match the lens to your subjects: a longer zoom expands reach but makes the kit less compact.
- Check composition options: decide whether you need a viewfinder, a movable screen, or both.
- Understand stabilization: distinguish in-body stabilization from stabilization provided by a lens or electronic processing.
- Check the video workload: confirm the resolution, frame rate, and recording duration you need, especially for long sessions.
- Consider the system beyond the first lens: lens availability and the size of likely future lenses affect the weight and flexibility of the setup over time.
- Verify local details: prices, kit names, and availability vary by region and can change; check the manufacturer or local retailer for the configuration you intend to buy.
Why this is a focused shortlist, not a forced top five
A defensible five-camera ranking requires current, comparable details for each model—including kit weight, stabilization, viewfinder, video limits, lens compatibility, regional availability, and price. The available evidence supports a detailed comparison of the EOS R50 and a specific set of trade-offs for the X-M5, but not a fully verified five-model ranking. Rather than fill the remaining places with unverified specifications, use the checklist above to assess other candidates against your needs.
