LifeLock vs IDShield: Compare Prices, Monitoring and Coverage

LifeLock is the better fit if you want higher-tier financial-account alerts and larger advertised reimbursement limits; IDShield is easier to compare if you want clearly priced one- or three-bureau monitoring. Neither is a proven overall winner: the available plan information describes advertised features, not comparative detection performance or claims outcomes.

LifeLock vs IDShield at a glance

What matters to you Better fit based on advertised plans Check before enrolling
Financial-account alerts and higher advertised reimbursement ceilings LifeLock’s higher tiers list additional account and alert categories, with plan-specific limits. Eligible expenses, stolen-funds cap, exclusions, exact tier, and renewal price.
Published one- or three-bureau prices IDShield lists starting monthly prices for individual and family plans at both bureau tiers. Which bureaus are included, what report and alert access means, and the checkout price.
Family coverage Both services advertise family plans. Covered adults and children, child-specific features, benefit limits, and renewal price.
Bundled digital-security tools LifeLock offers Norton 360 bundles as well as standalone plans. Whether the selected bundle includes a VPN, password manager, or device security, and its renewal cost.

The comparison below uses official plan information accessed October 7, 2026. Prices and benefits can change, so confirm them on the linked plan pages before buying.

How much do the plans cost?

LifeLock: check both the introductory and renewal price

LifeLock’s official page lists Core, Advanced, and Total plans, along with Norton 360 bundles. It displays promotional annual prices and renewal prices; the tier affects both price and included benefits. Compare the amount charged initially with the amount charged at renewal rather than treating the promotion as the ongoing price. See LifeLock’s current plans and pricing for the live offer.

LifeLock’s page does not provide a single price that represents every plan or household. Check the specific selection and its renewal amount at checkout. Standalone LifeLock and Norton 360 bundles are not the same offer: verify which security tools, if any, are included in the bundle you select.

IDShield: compare household size and bureau tier

As displayed on IDShield’s official page on October 7, 2026, the starting monthly prices are:

Plan type One-bureau monitoring Three-bureau monitoring
Individual $14.95 per month, displayed starting price $19.95 per month, displayed starting price
Family $29.95 per month, displayed starting price $34.95 per month, displayed starting price

IDShield describes the individual and family plans as having the same features; the choice changes according to household type and bureau-monitoring tier. These are displayed starting prices, not a guarantee of your checkout price or future renewal price. Confirm the current offer and what the chosen bureau tier includes on IDShield’s plan page; its FAQ also describes plan features.

What does each service say it monitors?

LifeLock: tier-dependent account alerts

LifeLock’s plan listings describe features including credit monitoring, credit and checking or savings activity alerts, dark-web monitoring, and restoration specialists. Higher tiers list additional alerts, including investment-account, home-title, and phone-takeover alerts. Which items are included depends on the plan, so check the exact tier rather than assuming every feature comes with every subscription.

IDShield: a broad list of monitoring categories

IDShield lists SSN and identity-threat alerts, dark-web and social-media monitoring, public- and court-record monitoring, minor-child monitoring, address-change monitoring, medical-data reports, reputation management, and sex-offender search and monitoring. This is the provider’s description of its feature categories, not evidence that every identity threat or misuse will be detected. Review IDShield’s feature list and check which categories apply to the plan you intend to buy.

The feature lists are not directly interchangeable: providers describe different categories and alert types. If you are choosing based on a particular account or record, confirm that the exact plan monitors it and understand what an alert does—and does not—cover.

How should you interpret the reimbursement limits?

LifeLock advertises plan-dependent identity-theft reimbursement and stolen-funds limits that also vary by household size. Its Total individual listing shows up to $3 million in identity-theft reimbursement and up to $1 million for stolen funds. Those figures are maximum advertised limits, not a promise to repay every loss. Eligibility, covered expenses, exclusions, and other conditions are governed by the selected plan’s terms.

Compare the relevant cap with the kinds of losses or expenses it applies to. A large headline limit alone does not show how likely a claim is to qualify, and the available plan information does not establish comparative claim outcomes for either service.

Which one should you choose?

Choose LifeLock if its specific tier matches your priorities

  • You want the additional financial-account alerts advertised for higher tiers, such as investment-account or home-title alerts.
  • You value a higher advertised reimbursement ceiling and are prepared to review the plan’s terms, covered expenses, and exclusions.
  • You are considering a Norton 360 bundle and have confirmed which digital-security tools and renewal price apply to that bundle.

Choose IDShield if its pricing structure and monitoring categories suit you

  • You want a straightforward starting-price comparison between one- and three-bureau monitoring.
  • You are selecting between individual and family plans and want to evaluate the listed monitoring categories.
  • You have verified which bureaus, reports, alerts, and household members the selected plan covers.

Use this checklist before paying

  1. Choose the individual or family plan that fits your household, then confirm who is covered and whether children have separate features or limits.
  2. For credit monitoring, verify the bureau tier and what access to reports and alerts actually includes.
  3. For LifeLock, compare the selected tier’s introductory and renewal prices; for IDShield, verify the current checkout price and any renewal terms.
  4. Read the benefit terms for reimbursement, including eligible losses or expenses, caps, and exclusions.
  5. Confirm that any specific account, record, or security tool you need is included in that exact plan or bundle.

What the comparison can—and cannot—establish

Official plan pages are useful for comparing advertised prices and features, but they do not establish which service detects identity theft more reliably, sends alerts faster, or handles claims better. This is a comparison of published plan descriptions, not a hands-on test or a ranking of real-world outcomes.

An IDShield-hosted side-by-side comparison PDF is explicitly based on information publicly available in December 2017. It is historical and should not be used to judge 2026 prices or decide which current plan has superior features: the dated comparison PDF. For secondary context on LifeLock’s plan refresh and its Norton 360 bundles, see TechRadar’s 2026 identity-theft protection guide; the live provider pages are the relevant source for current plan names, prices, and benefits.
