That engine choice is surprising beside the game’s 3D mech exploration and combat—but it does not mean the project is impossible. The exact techniques behind its presentation have not been explained publicly in the cited coverage.
What is Lie of Caelum: Spirit?
Lie of Caelum: Spirit is a single-player, turn-based sci-fi role-playing game from developer Classi5ed. GamesRadar describes it as a project inspired by the PSX era, including Xenogears and Phantasy Star. Its Steam listing describes a story-focused RPG with mechs, side quests and minigames, and currently labels it “Coming soon.”

The central twist is its reported development engine: RPG Maker MZ, the 2020 release of the RPG-making software. The contrast is striking because the game is presented with 3D mech and on-foot exploration, rather than the maps-and-events workflow many people associate with RPG Maker. But the engine alone does not tell us how those scenes were made.
What has been shown about the gameplay?
GamesRadar reports that players will explore on foot and in a mech, with transitions between the two. The game is also described as having turn-based combat and side activities including racing, a card game and fishing.

Steam’s feature description adds more detail about the intended systems: timed inputs during combat, perfect guards, role-based strategy and equipment that can change a character’s playstyle. It also names Link Catalysts, quests and minigames. These are descriptions of planned features, not a substitute for playing the finished game.
Why does RPG Maker MZ make the project surprising?
RPG Maker is designed to make role-playing games accessible through tools such as maps, character statistics and event-driven story logic. GamesRadar quotes the software’s Steam description: “Making an RPG is as easy as putting in the stats for your heroes and villains, drawing up some maps, and using a simple eventing system to drive the story to its finale!”
That accessible starting point is different from the game’s reported 3D mech presentation. It does not establish a hard technical ceiling for what RPG Maker can produce: creators can extend tools beyond their usual workflows. In this case, however, the cited coverage does not identify the plugins, custom code, rendering approach or other specific techniques behind Spirit. The implementation remains unknown.
Classi5ed has expressed the surprise directly. In an older social post accompanying footage of exploration on foot and in a mech, the developer wrote, “I want to see your face when I tell you this was made in RPG Maker MZ.” GamesRadar also reported the reaction, “3D mech combat in RPG maker????? God’s strongest programmer.” That response captures the unexpected pairing; it is not technical documentation of how the game works.

What are the funding and playtime figures?
GamesRadar reported that the Kickstarter campaign sought $34,000 and raised more than $147,000. The campaign pitch promised “60+ hours of main campaign” and “20+ hours of meaningful side content.” Those are campaign funding and scope claims—not verified delivered content or independently measured playtime.
The project follows Lie of Caelum, a smaller free game released on Steam in 2022, according to GamesRadar. The developer described that original game as a portfolio project and said its reception encouraged work on Spirit.

Which platforms and release details are confirmed?
The Steam store page lists Lie of Caelum: Spirit as “Coming soon.” The campaign FAQ says the base game is funded whether or not stretch goals are reached, while Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox ports depend on their respective stretch goals. Those additional console versions are therefore contingent; the FAQ does not make them unconditional commitments.

A September 2026 Steam Community post from Classi5ed said a demo was in development and would include the Zero Frame Racing minigame and a boss. That announcement establishes a plan at the time it was posted, not that a demo is currently available.
