The milestone is being reported as the highest individual score in men’s T20 cricket. That is a category-wide men’s T20 record claim, not a claim limited to T20 internationals. As with any sporting record, it can be surpassed by a later innings.

Pretorius made the score for Titans against Knights, with Titans finishing on 267/3, according to BBC Sport and TimesLIVE. TimesLIVE places the match in Bloemfontein and refers to the opposition as Free State Knights. Reports describe the fixture as a CSA T20 Challenge match, while TimesLIVE calls the competition the YesPlay Pro20 Cup. Without an official scorecard to settle the naming difference, it is safest to identify the teams and avoid treating either competition label as definitive.

Rajasthan Royals also says Pretorius’s 79 balls faced matched the men’s T20 record for most deliveries faced in an innings, previously shared by Aaron Finch and Marcus Stoinis. That secondary record claim is reported by Rajasthan Royals; the available match reports do not establish a separate statistical authority’s confirmation.
How the 188 compares with Gayle’s 175
Gayle set the previous benchmark in the 2013 IPL, scoring 175 not out from 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors. His innings included 17 sixes and 12 fours, and RCB made 263/5 before winning by 130 runs, according to Hindustan Times.
