If your LG TV has no sound, first check that it is not muted and that Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Out is set to the speaker you intend to use. Then check the volume and mute settings on your set-top box, console, soundbar, or other source. If the problem affects only one connected device, troubleshoot that connection; if it affects TV audio generally, run the model-appropriate sound test.
Menu wording and paths vary by LG model and webOS version. LG’s US support guidance covers multiple generations, so use your TV’s model-specific support page when a path below does not match what you see.

Check mute, volume, and Sound Out first
- Unmute the TV and raise its volume. Also check whether a volume control on screen responds; LG notes that a missing or nonresponsive volume indicator can point to an external output being selected.
- Open Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Out and select the intended speaker. For the TV’s own speakers, newer models commonly say Use TV Speaker; some older models say Internal TV Speaker. LG’s support library documents model- and webOS-specific variations.
- If audio should come from a separate device, check that device’s mute and volume settings too. Raising the TV volume will not unmute or turn up a soundbar, set-top box, or other external speaker.
If you recently disconnected a soundbar, check Sound Out: the TV may still be directing audio to the external device instead of its built-in speakers. LG’s troubleshooting guidance says to check the selected output when there is no sound. LG USA Support, “No sound from my TV,” published July 13, 2026.
If sound is missing from an HDMI device
If the TV’s own menus or other sources make sound but a console, cable box, or other HDMI-connected device does not, work through the source and connection before suspecting the TV’s speakers.

- Confirm the TV is on the HDMI input the device uses. Check that playback is not paused and that the connected device is not muted or turned down.
- Unplug and firmly reconnect the HDMI cable at both ends.
- Restart the TV and the connected device.
- If the problem remains, test with another HDMI cable, especially if the current cable is visibly damaged or a known-good cable resolves the issue.
LG recommends trying another cable as one troubleshooting step, not as a universal fix. Its guidance does not specify a cable version for this diagnostic. A cable swap is relevant to an HDMI-source problem; it does not explain missing sound from the TV’s internal speakers or every app. LG USA Support.
If you use a soundbar or other external speaker
Make sure the speaker is on, unmuted, and turned up. Then match the TV’s Sound Out selection to the actual connection: wired audio, HDMI/ARC, optical, or wireless audio such as Bluetooth. Confirm both ends of a wired connection are secure and that each cable is plugged into the appropriate port. The exact available options depend on the TV and speaker models; consult their model-specific instructions if the connection type is unclear. When the TV and external speaker both play
If audio comes from both the TV speakers and an external speaker but sounds doubled, echoes, or falls out of sync, LG identifies processing delay as a possible cause. Try using one output, setting Digital Sound Output to PCM, or adjusting AV Sync, as appropriate for your setup. Menu availability and wording vary by model. LG USA Support.

LG’s Sound Self-Diagnosis or Sound Test can help distinguish an internal TV-audio problem from an issue with a source or signal. The documented path for webOS 23 and 24 is Settings → Support → Sound Self-Diagnosis. For those versions, LG says the test switches to the internal speakers, sets volume to 20, and restores the previous volume afterward. LG’s sound-test instructions.

Other webOS generations may place the test under Support, OLED Care, Device Self-Care, Additional Settings, or Sound. Use the path listed for your exact model rather than assuming every LG TV has the same menus. If the test option is missing, check the TV’s model-specific support page.

If audio remains absent after checking the output, source, connections, and sound test, contact LG support or arrange service through an appropriate local provider. Those checks do not establish that a particular speaker or audio board has failed; diagnosing a hardware fault requires a model-specific assessment. If both the picture and sound are absent, LG documents a power reset: disconnect the TV from power, hold the TV’s physical power button for about 10 seconds, reconnect power, and turn it on. LG USA Support.
