For regular TV apps, use the Apps section or LG Content Store and install an app listed as compatible with your TV. LG’s Developer Mode is for testing webOS apps packaged as .ipk files; it is not an APK installer.
Why an Android APK won’t install directly on an LG TV
Android APKs are packages for Android apps. LG’s consumer installation route for a webOS TV is its Apps section or LG Content Store, while LG’s documented developer workflow packages webOS apps as .ipk files. These are different app platforms and package formats.

Changing a file’s extension, copying an APK to a USB drive, or opening a developer menu does not make an Android app compatible with webOS. LG’s published instructions do not document those as ways to install APKs.

Install an app that’s available for your LG TV
- Press Home on the remote and open Apps or LG Content Store. The label can vary by webOS version.
- Search for the app by name and select a listing compatible with your TV.
- Choose Install and follow any on-screen prompts.
LG describes the Content Store as the place to find and install apps for its TVs. See LG’s guide to installing and deleting apps.

If you can’t find or install the app
App availability can depend on the TV’s country or region, model, and supported webOS version. Check the LG Content Store for the TV’s region and confirm that the app supports your model and software version. LG explains these compatibility checks in its guide to finding LG Content Store apps.

- Sign in to your LG account.
- Confirm that the TV is connected to the network.
- Check the LG Services Country setting.
- Make sure the TV has enough available storage.
- Accept any required user agreements.
Menu names and available settings can differ between TV models and webOS versions. LG’s app installation guide covers these prerequisites and troubleshooting checks.
What LG Developer Mode is for
Developer Mode is a testing workflow for developers building apps for webOS TV. LG’s CLI Developer Guide describes packaging a webOS app as an .ipk file and installing it on a TV configured for testing: LG webOS TV CLI Developer Guide.

LG’s Developer Mode instructions require a network-connected TV, a PC on the same network with the webOS CLI installed, and an LG Developer site account.
