OSD Lock on an LG monitor restricts access to some on-screen settings so they cannot be changed accidentally. To turn it off, use the control method your monitor has: joystick models commonly offer Settings → General → OSD Lock → Off, while models with separate MENU buttons may use a long press and an on-screen lock prompt. Exact steps and which settings remain available depend on the model.
What OSD Lock means
OSD stands for On-Screen Display: the monitor’s own menus for picture, input, and other settings. LG describes OSD as the adjustment function that lets a user optimize the monitor screen. OSD Lock restricts configuration and adjustment through those menus; it is intended to prevent accidental changes from unintended button presses. It does not, by itself, mean the monitor is broken. LG’s button-controlled menu guidance explains the term, and the 27UD68 manual describes the feature as disabling menu configuration and adjustment.

How to unlock an LG monitor
First identify the controls on your monitor. LG’s instructions cover multiple models, so the menu labels, control positions, and interaction can differ. If the steps below do not match what appears on screen, use the manual for the exact model.
For a monitor with a joystick
- Press the joystick, usually located at the bottom center of the monitor, to open the main menu.
- Move the joystick right to Settings.
- Choose General, then select OSD Lock.
- Set OSD Lock to Off.
These are LG’s general joystick instructions; a particular model may use different labels or offer different choices. If the menu opens but options under Picture or General are unavailable, OSD Lock may be enabled. LG’s support guide notes that some items in those menus cannot be controlled while the lock is on.

For a monitor with separate MENU buttons
- Press and hold MENU for about five seconds, or for the duration specified by the on-screen prompt or your model’s manual.
- When the lock prompt appears, use the navigation buttons to select Unlock if the prompt offers Lock and Unlock, then confirm.
The precise interaction is model-specific. LG’s 19M38-series manual, for example, describes holding MENU and choosing Lock or Unlock with the navigation buttons. LG’s general guidance also describes a roughly five-second MENU hold and, for some button-controlled models, holding MENU again to unlock. Follow the prompt shown by your monitor rather than assuming every model uses the same sequence.
What remains usable while the OSD is locked?
There is no single exception list for every LG monitor. The lock can leave selected functions accessible, and those functions vary by model. For example, the 27UD68 manual says all features are disabled except Brightness, Contrast, Volume, Input, OSD Lock in Settings, and Exit. The 27MU88-W manual has its own model-specific description and exceptions. Do not assume either list applies to another monitor.

Find the exact instructions for your model
- Find the model name on the monitor’s label or in its product information.
- Open the manual for that model and look for the OSD Lock or button-control instructions.
- Use the controls and menu choices shown for that model if they differ from the general steps above.
LG notes that its general guidance covers multiple models and that button positions, illustrations, and content may vary. Model-specific instructions take precedence when the monitor’s menu or prompt does not match the general procedure.
