The 2024 LG B4 OLED can still deliver a stunning picture: pixel-level blacks, strong contrast, wide viewing angles and excellent console-gaming support. But it is not the best TV you can buy overall in 2026. Its lower brightness and less capable processing than newer or higher-tier sets make it a compelling buy only when the price is meaningfully lower and your room and viewing habits suit OLED.
What the LG B4 is—and what makes its picture special
The B4 was LG’s entry-level OLED range for 2024. It pairs a 4K OLED panel with the α8 AI Processor 4K and webOS 24. LG’s U.S. launch announcement highlighted 55-, 65- and 77-inch models; independent coverage also lists 48- and 83-inch sizes. Availability and model suffixes vary by market, so confirm the exact version for sale. LG’s launch announcement · RTINGS’ B4 review

OLED pixels emit their own light and can switch off individually. In a dark scene, that means blacks are genuinely black rather than illuminated by a backlight. The result is high perceived contrast without the conventional LCD blooming that can appear around bright objects. OLED also retains image quality across wider viewing angles than many LCD televisions, a practical benefit when people sit off to the side.

Dolby Vision is useful for compatible streaming and disc content, although format support alone does not make one TV universally better. Accurate picture modes can produce strong, convincing color; the out-of-box result depends on the selected mode and content. OLED’s rapid pixel response also suits games and sports, but it does not eliminate the visible judder some viewers notice in low-frame-rate films. LG’s B4 product page

The main compromise is brightness
The B4 is less bright than the LG C4 and many premium OLEDs. That matters most in a sunlit room, with direct light on the screen, or when watching daytime sports. HDR highlights have less intensity than on brighter sets, even though the B4 can still look rich and cinematic in a dim or moderately lit room. Reviewers assess brightness and reflection handling under particular test conditions; results from one screen size or test should not be treated as a guarantee for every B4. Tom’s Guide’s B4 review · RTINGS’ B4 review
If you can, judge the TV in lighting like your own and buy from a seller with a clear return window. Bright showroom lighting and vivid display modes can make it hard to tell how a less-bright OLED will perform in your living room.
Gaming: excellent for consoles, less future-proof for high-refresh PC play
The B4 has four HDMI inputs and supports 4K/120Hz-class gaming, VRR and ALLM. It is a strong match for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, whose 4K output tops out at 120Hz. The set also supports Dolby Vision gaming at 4K/120Hz, subject to the connected device and settings. Confirm regional specifications and port functions for the exact model before connecting multiple devices. RTINGS’ B4 review · LG’s B4 product page

LG B4 versus LG C4: choose the value, not the label
| Feature | LG B4 | LG C4 |
|---|---|---|
| Position and processor | 2024 entry-level OLED; α8 AI Processor 4K | Higher-tier 2024 OLED; α9 AI Processor 4K Gen7 |
| Brightness and HDR | Lower brightness; better suited to controlled lighting | Brighter, with more impactful HDR highlights |
| Gaming refresh rate | 4K/120Hz-class; strong for current consoles | Supports 4K/144Hz for compatible PC hardware |
| Processing and upscaling | Capable, but less powerful processing | Stronger processing, more useful with difficult or lower-quality sources |
| Built-in sound | Serviceable; not a substitute for a dedicated audio system | Reported to sound better than the B4 |
| Best fit | Buyers who find a substantial clearance discount and watch in a dimmer room | Buyers who value brightness, processing, PC refresh rate or better built-in audio |
The C4 is the better-equipped TV, but the B4 can be the better value if the price gap is large. If you watch mostly high-quality 4K streaming or play console games in a room where you can control the light, the C4’s upgrades may not justify a small saving. If the price difference is modest, or you watch a lot of daytime sports, lower-quality cable or broadcast video, or PC games above 120Hz, favor the C4 or compare a newer C-series model at its current price. How it compares with Samsung, Sony and Mini-LED
Samsung OLED: consider it for brightness and HDR impact
RTINGS’ comparison finds the Samsung S90D better overall than the B4. Samsung’s advantages can include greater brightness, strong gaming features and, on QD-OLED versions, vivid color volume. The LG’s counterpoints include Dolby Vision support and four HDMI 2.1 inputs. Samsung model suffixes and panel types can differ by size and region, so compare the precise version you can buy rather than assuming all S90Ds are alike. RTINGS’ B4-versus-S90D comparison
Sony OLED: look at processing and film presentation
Sony alternatives may suit viewers who prioritize upscaling, motion handling and film-oriented processing. The B4 can make more sense when the budget is tighter and most viewing is high-quality streaming or gaming. Current buying guides feature newer Sony models, not the B4 as an overall leader. TechRadar’s 65-inch TV guide · What Hi-Fi’s OLED guide
Mini-LED: a practical choice for bright rooms or static content
A good Mini-LED LCD can be a better fit for a very bright room, frequent daytime sports, a larger screen on a tighter budget, or a household that leaves static images up for long periods. Its trade-offs include possible blooming around bright objects and less consistent blacks and viewing angles than OLED. If pixel-level blacks and wide-angle viewing are priorities, the B4 has the advantage.
OLED image retention and burn-in: understand the actual risk
Temporary image retention can fade after the content changes or a compensation cycle. Permanent burn-in is longer-term uneven panel aging; its likelihood depends on factors such as static content, brightness, use patterns and panel variation. LG’s panel-protection features can help manage wear, but they do not guarantee immunity. People who display a desktop taskbar, news ticker or the same game HUD for many hours every day should weigh that pattern against a Mini-LED alternative. OLED burn-in is a risk to consider, not an inevitable outcome.
Buying a B4 in 2026: check the unit as carefully as the price
The B4 is a 2024 model, and by 2026 remaining stock may be limited or vary by country and retailer. LG’s original U.S. launch price is historical context, not a reliable current benchmark. Current buying guides focus on newer sets, and there is no verified live B4 street price here; compare the actual offer against a newer C-series TV and other alternatives before deciding. Quick Recap
- Confirm that the unit is new, open-box or refurbished, and that the listing describes it accurately.
- Check the exact model suffix, seller, warranty coverage and return window; these can vary by market and seller.
- Compare the live price with a newer LG C-series model and brighter rivals rather than relying on launch pricing or a headline discount.
- For a used or open-box set, ask about panel condition and test for visible defects during the return period.
