An LG appliance warranty is the manufacturer’s limited warranty for a specific LG product; a home warranty is a separate contract that may cover listed household appliances or systems under its own rules. LG Premium Care is a third, optional service plan—not another name for either warranty. To know what applies to your appliance, check its exact model terms, the dates of purchase or delivery, and the contract you are considering.
How the three types of coverage differ

These contracts should not be treated as interchangeable. Without reviewing the actual terms, you cannot assume a home warranty will cover a problem excluded by LG, that the contracts overlap in a particular case, or that one replaces the other.

What the LG appliance warranty covers
LG’s U.S. warranty language says it applies to qualifying products purchased, installed, and used in the United States and its territories. It covers defects in materials or workmanship under normal and proper use, with repair or replacement at LG’s option. The warranty clock begins at original delivery or purchase, and the duration and exclusions depend on the model’s terms. Use the model-specific schedule, not a general assumption
Some products have different periods for the appliance as a whole and for individual components. For example, one historical LG refrigerator warranty document lists one year for the refrigerator and sealed system, alongside longer component-specific terms. That example is not a current universal schedule; it shows why a longer component term should not be read as longer whole-appliance coverage or labor coverage. What a home warranty may cover—and what to verify
A home warranty is governed by its own contract, so the name alone does not establish what an LG appliance’s repair would qualify for. Read the provider’s actual agreement and applicable state notices before relying on it. The relevant questions are:
- Is the specific appliance covered, and are there age, model, or other eligibility conditions?
- Which causes of failure qualify, and which are excluded?
- Are there dollar limits, per-item caps, or limits on parts, labor, or replacement?
- What service fee or deductible applies?
- Who selects the technician, and are there repair-network or authorization rules?
- When does coverage begin, how must a claim be filed, and what are the cancellation terms?
Those details vary by contract; a general statement that a home warranty covers appliances is not enough to determine whether it would pay for a particular LG repair.

How LG Premium Care fits in
LG says Premium Care offers one to three years of protection for major appliances and home entertainment products. Its page describes parts and labor for mechanical or electrical failure after the manufacturer warranty expires, with no deductible and LG-authorized parts and technicians. LG also describes possible replacement or reimbursement if repair is not possible, and up to $300 in food-loss reimbursement for refrigerators and freezers. These are plan descriptions, not a substitute for the current contract: limitations and exclusions apply, and eligibility and terms should be confirmed before purchase. Expiration does not mean LG service is unavailable. LG says its Direct Service is available for out-of-warranty products; the diagnostic fee is waived if you proceed with the repair. LG notes that the fee can change, so check the current amount when arranging service. Schedule LG repair service.

How to check which coverage applies to your LG appliance
- Find the complete model and serial numbers. Use LG’s warranty information page to look up the model-specific terms: LG warranty lookup.
- Confirm the original purchase or delivery date. Keep the receipt or other proof of purchase; some LG terms require proof of original retail purchase.
- Read the component schedule and exclusions. Identify whether coverage applies to the appliance, a specific part, labor, or some combination; do not infer whole-appliance coverage from a longer component term.
- Read the home-warranty contract itself. Check covered equipment and failure causes, exclusions, caps, fees, service process, repair network, claim timing, effective date, and cancellation terms.
- Review any Premium Care offer separately. Confirm current price, eligibility, duration, exclusions, and the contract’s repair, replacement, reimbursement, and service rules.
- If coverage has ended, compare repair options. Ask LG for the current Direct Service diagnostic fee and repair quote, then compare with other options available to you.
