It covers Flux v2, manifest delivery, Kustomize, Helm, observability, Tekton integration, progressive releases, multi-cluster and multi-tenant operations, service meshes, and workflow security. You should already be comfortable with Kubernetes, Git collaboration, and basic CI/CD, and you need a Linux system plus a cloud provider or VirtualBox for the labs.
What LFS269 teaches
GitOps treats a Git repository as the declared source of truth for Kubernetes. Flux continuously compares that declaration with the running cluster and reconciles differences, so delivery is driven through versioned Git changes rather than ad-hoc manual edits.
LFS269 applies that model to a working Kubernetes environment. The course is not limited to installing Flux; its outline follows the operational problems teams encounter after initial deployment.
| Area | What the course covers |
|---|---|
| Foundations | GitOps principles, Kubernetes and Git essentials, and Flux CD concepts |
| Flux deployment | Installing Flux v2 on an existing Kubernetes cluster and deploying manifests from Git |
| Configuration | Customizing applications with Kustomize and Helm |
| Operations | Monitoring and notifications using Prometheus, Grafana and Slack |
| CI/CD integration | Connecting Flux with Tekton workflows |
| Release management | Canary, A/B and blue/green strategies, including Flagger-related progressive delivery |
| Scale and isolation | Multi-cluster and multi-tenant GitOps workflows |
| Architecture and security | Service-mesh scenarios and methods for securing GitOps workflows |
How Flux fits into the delivery workflow
Git as the desired state
Application and infrastructure definitions are stored in Git. A reviewed commit changes the desired state, creating an auditable history and allowing teams to use normal branch, pull-request and code-review controls.

#1 Best Overall
Flux reconciliation
Flux agents in the cluster detect the repository state and apply the declared Kubernetes resources. This reconciliation model helps the cluster converge on the approved configuration and makes drift visible as a difference between Git and the running state.
Beyond basic deployments
The syllabus then layers in Kustomize overlays and Helm releases, telemetry and alerts, CI hand-offs with Tekton, and progressive delivery. That breadth makes LFS269 relevant to teams designing a complete platform workflow rather than only learning a single command-line installation.
Prerequisites you should have before enrolling
The Linux Foundation course page expects meaningful technical experience. You should be able to:
- Work with Kubernetes Pods, ReplicaSets, Deployments, Services and namespaces.
- Use
kubectl, read and write YAML, and understand custom resource definitions (CRDs) and controllers or operators. - Understand Helm and Kustomize at a basic working level.
- Use Git branches, remotes, merges and pull requests, and understand branch models, protected branches and code review.
- Explain basic CI/CD concepts, including pipelines, automated builds and tests, and the creation of artifacts and container images.
If Kubernetes resources or Git pull requests are still new to you, the labs will be harder than the course description suggests. LFS269 is better treated as an intermediate-to-advanced implementation course than as a first introduction to Kubernetes or Git.

Lab environment and equipment
Successful lab completion requires a Linux server or a Linux desktop or laptop. You also need access to either a public cloud provider or VirtualBox to run the Kubernetes environment used in the exercises. Plan for cluster administration, networking and local command-line work; the course is hands-on rather than video-only.
What the curriculum means in practice
Manifest delivery, Kustomize and Helm
You start with Flux-managed Kubernetes manifests, then learn how Kustomize and Helm address environment-specific configuration and packaged applications. These sections are useful if your repositories contain separate development, staging and production overlays or a mix of raw YAML and charts.
Rank #3
Monitoring and notifications
Prometheus and Grafana are named for monitoring, while Slack is used for notifications. The goal is to connect reconciliation and deployment activity to the operational feedback loop, rather than treating a successful Git commit as proof that production is healthy.
Tekton integration
The Tekton material addresses the boundary between continuous integration and GitOps delivery: builds and tests can produce or update the artifacts and declarations that Flux then deploys.
Progressive releases
Canary, A/B and blue/green approaches are covered for reducing deployment risk. The description also names Flagger and service meshes, which are commonly used to automate traffic shifting and metric-based promotion or rollback.
Rank #4
Multi-cluster and multi-tenant operations
These topics matter when one GitOps practice must serve several clusters or multiple teams with isolation requirements. Expect organizational and repository-structure considerations in addition to controller configuration.
Workflow security
The security section focuses on protecting the GitOps path itself: repository changes, credentials, cluster access and the controllers that apply desired state. It is an important distinction from securing only the application workloads.

The Linux Foundation’s 2021 launch announcement described 30–40 hours of video lessons, hands-on labs and related material. That figure is a historical launch description, not a verified current duration. The same announcement listed a $299 fee including one year of access; it should not be treated as today’s price or access policy without checking the current Linux Foundation enrollment page.

The launch announcement quoted Priyanka Sharma, then general manager of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, saying the GitOps courses were intended to help developers build a foundation and learn integration with Kubernetes. Tracy Miranda, then executive director of the Continuous Delivery Foundation, said learners would be able to evaluate and implement GitOps for their development needs. Both statements date from the 2021 launch.
Who should take LFS269?
- Developers: especially those responsible for packaging applications and promoting releases through Kubernetes.
- QA engineers: if testing and release verification must connect to automated deployment workflows.
- SREs and platform engineers: if you operate clusters, reconciliation, observability or tenancy boundaries.
- Technical practitioners evaluating tools: if you need a guided way to assess Flux and the surrounding GitOps ecosystem.
It is a poor fit if you need a beginner Kubernetes course, a Git fundamentals class, or a purely conceptual overview without lab work.
