The Lenovo ThinkPad X9-15p Gen 1 Aura Edition is a premium 15.3-inch laptop built around Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, a high-resolution display and an 88 Wh battery. Notebookcheck’s tested X7 358H configuration delivered strong CPU performance and 18 hours 20 minutes of Wi-Fi browsing in that publication’s test. Its large haptic touchpad is a standout, but the missing TrackPoint and soldered memory are important tradeoffs. Exact specifications and availability vary by regional configuration.
What the X9-15p is—and how it differs from the X9-15
The X9-15p Gen 1 Aura Edition is the 2026, performance-oriented member of Lenovo’s X9 line. It is distinct from the earlier ThinkPad X9-15: the “p” model uses newer Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processor options, and Notebookcheck found higher performance in its specific comparison. That does not mean every X9-15p configuration will outperform every X9-15 in every workload.

Lenovo’s January 6, 2026 announcement described the laptop as launching in Q1 2026 with an estimated US starting price of $1,999. At review time, Notebookcheck reported an approximately $1,950 US starting price. Those are dated launch and review snapshots, not a current universal price; check local stock and the precise regional SKU before buying. Lenovo’s CES 2026 announcement provides the launch context.
Configurations and hardware to check before buying
Lenovo’s product and specification materials describe a 15.3-inch, 16:10 2.8K display, with touch available on some configurations. Processor options surfaced in Lenovo’s PSREF include the Core Ultra 5 338H and Core Ultra X7 358H/368H; availability depends on the market and exact SKU. The independently tested X7 358H configuration had Intel Arc B390 integrated graphics, 32 GB of soldered LPDDR5X-9600 memory and a 1 TB SSD. Do not assume that review configuration or every listed processor is offered by every retailer.

Performance: strong results in one independently tested configuration
Notebookcheck reviewed an X9-15p with the Core Ultra X7 358H, Arc B390 integrated graphics, 32 GB LPDDR5X-9600 and a 1 TB SSD. In its review, the publication summarized the unit’s average CPU benchmark performance as roughly 44 percent faster than its earlier X9-15 review unit. That is a comparison across Notebookcheck’s CPU benchmark set—not a promised uplift in every application, nor a result for every X9-15p configuration.
Notebookcheck also reported that its X9-15p review unit scored 76 percent higher than the earlier X9-15 review unit in 3DMark GPU testing, and performed 64 percent better in the publication’s selected game tests. Those comparisons describe the tested systems and methods; they are not a guarantee of frame rates in a particular game or performance against other laptops. For work involving sustained rendering, compiling, or gaming, look for results from the exact processor and power configuration you plan to buy.

- With 32 GB of memory, users can run many programs without losing execution
- The 14" 1920 x 1200 screen provides a great movie watching experience
- 1 TB total SSD capacity for spacious storage with much faster data transfer speed than standard hard drives
The practical appeal is a large-screen Windows work machine with higher-performance processor options and capable integrated graphics. The evidence here supports strong benchmark performance for the reviewed X7 configuration, but does not establish how every configuration behaves under prolonged heavy load.
Battery life: impressive web browsing, with settings that matter
Notebookcheck measured 18 hours 20 minutes of Wi-Fi web browsing on its X7 358H review unit, using Microsoft Edge, a display brightness of 150 cd/m² and a 60 Hz refresh rate. The result is specific to that test setup, not a promise of a full workday—or multiple days—for every user and configuration.
In the same publication’s Wi-Fi web test at maximum brightness, the reviewed machine lasted 9 hours 14 minutes at 60 Hz and 9 hours 34 minutes with variable refresh rate (VRR) set to 30–120 Hz. The difference illustrates why brightness and refresh behavior matter when comparing runtime figures. Your results will also depend on workload, wireless use and other settings.

- With 16 GB of memory, users can run many programs without losing execution
- The 15.3" 2880 x 1800 screen provides a great movie watching experience
- 512 GB SSD is enough to store your essential documents and files, favorite songs, movies and pictures
Input and display: a large touchpad, but no TrackPoint
Notebookcheck describes the glass haptic touchpad as measuring 13.5 × 8.5 cm and being clickable across its surface, and rated the experience highly. A broad haptic surface can suit users who prefer touchpad navigation and gestures.

That is a meaningful departure for buyers who rely on the pointing stick and its buttons; try the laptop in person if that input method is central to your workflow. The 2.8K display’s resolution and 15.3-inch size are Lenovo-listed specifications, while touch is configuration-dependent. The cited material does not establish a single brightness, refresh-rate or surface-treatment specification that applies to all regional SKUs.

Choose memory carefully
Lenovo describes the LPDDR5X memory as soldered and lists configurations up to 64 GB. Because it is not a conventional removable memory module, select enough capacity for your expected workload when ordering rather than planning on a later RAM upgrade.

Verify the exact SKU and storage details
Compare the full regional model or SKU against Lenovo’s PSREF and the retailer’s listing. Confirm processor, memory, SSD capacity, display touch option, warranty and price. Lenovo lists one M.2 2280 slot and storage up to 2 TB; that does not by itself establish a safe or supported user upgrade for a particular unit.
Linux support is not established here
Lenovo’s cited product material does not provide a model- and kernel-specific Linux compatibility verdict, and a reader discussion asking about Fedora is not proof of support. If Linux is essential, seek reports for the exact X9-15p configuration and the kernel version you intend to run before relying on it.

Who should consider the ThinkPad X9-15p?
- Consider it if you want a premium, large-screen Windows laptop, value strong CPU performance and integrated graphics, and prefer a spacious haptic touchpad.
- Think carefully if you use a TrackPoint, expect to change memory later, or need a specific display or processor configuration that may not be sold in your region.
- Compare carefully with the earlier X9-15 or other premium laptops using equivalent workloads, display settings and battery test methods—not headline percentages alone.
For desk-based setups, Lenovo documents Thunderbolt and USB-C docking accessories; confirm the dock’s compatibility and required ports against your peripherals before purchase. The laptop includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports, but this alone does not identify a particular dock as suitable.
Verdict
The ThinkPad X9-15p Gen 1 Aura Edition is a compelling premium laptop on paper, and Notebookcheck’s tested X7 358H configuration paired strong CPU results with unusually long Wi-Fi browsing runtime under the publication’s controlled settings. Its fixed memory, absent TrackPoint and configuration-dependent display and processor options make exact-SKU checking essential. It is best suited to buyers who want the larger-screen performance focus and are comfortable with touchpad-first input.
