In Tom’s Guide’s three-week review, the sound made ordinary tablet speakers feel disappointing by comparison—but the tablet’s weight and modest performance make it a better fit for propped-up streaming, music, reading, and browsing than for long handheld sessions or demanding work.
What makes the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 different?
Its audio hardware takes center stage: Tom’s Guide describes a JBL nine-unit Pro system with four tweeters, three woofers, and two passive radiators. Reviewer Tony Polanco summed up his impression: “The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 impresses with its massive JBL speaker, which delivers rich, powerful sound.” That is a hands-on assessment, not a controlled measurement proving it outperforms every other tablet.

The built-in kickstand is part of the same entertainment-first idea. It rotates 360 degrees, allowing the tablet to sit horizontally for video or vertically for reading. With the screen propped up, the large speaker assembly is an asset; in your hands, the tablet’s bottom-heavy balance is less appealing.
How good are the screen and core specifications?
Tom’s Guide lists a 12.1-inch display with 2560 × 1600 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, along with 8GB of memory, 128GB of storage, and a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 processor. These specifications are reported by the review; they were not separately verified against Lenovo’s product page.

In Tom’s Guide’s 2026 measurements, the display reached 597 nits in SDR and 776 nits in HDR, with adaptive brightness disabled for the brightness comparisons. The review also found oversaturated color reproduction. Its Delta-E result was low, but the reviewer still noted that the 11th-generation iPad rendered more natural-looking hues.

The wide color-gamut coverage figures do not by themselves mean colors look more accurate or natural. Tom’s Guide specifically describes the Lenovo’s colors as oversaturated, while finding the iPad’s hues more natural.

In Tom’s Guide’s Wi-Fi browsing test at 150 nits, the Lenovo lasted 16 hours at 60Hz and 13 hours 39 minutes at 120Hz. The other results in the same comparison were 11 hours 25 minutes for the iPad (11th gen) and 16 hours 39 minutes for the OnePlus Pad Go 2. These are test results under stated lab conditions, not guaranteed runtimes for everyday use.

The refresh-rate setting makes a material difference in this test: the Lenovo’s 120Hz result was 2 hours 21 minutes shorter than its 60Hz result. If maximizing time between charges matters more than the smoother refresh rate, 60Hz is the more battery-conscious choice.
Is it powerful enough for games and multitasking?
Tom’s Guide’s performance tests put the Lenovo ahead of the OnePlus Pad Go 2 in the listed CPU and graphics results, but behind the iPad (11th gen). The review cautions that the Tab Plus Gen 2 is not suited to demanding workloads or heavy multitasking. For streaming, browsing, reading, and everyday entertainment, those limits matter less; choose another class of tablet if gaming performance or sustained productivity is a priority.

Who should buy it—and who should skip it?
A good match for entertainment at home
- You often watch shows, listen to music or podcasts, read, or browse with a tablet propped up.
- You value unusually capable built-in audio and want a kickstand integrated into the device.
- You prefer a large screen and can accept choosing 60Hz when battery life takes priority.
A poor match for handheld use or demanding tasks
- You expect to hold a tablet comfortably for long stretches; the 1.69-pound, speaker-heavy design is awkward for extended handheld sessions.
- You need strong performance for heavy multitasking, demanding work, or graphics-intensive gaming.
- You prioritize natural color reproduction over the Lenovo’s oversaturated presentation.
What does the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 cost?
Tom’s Guide listed a typical price of $399 in its September 13, 2026 review and noted lower promotional prices at publication. Those promotions are not evidence of a current deal: retailer prices, stock, and availability can change, so check a live listing in your region before buying.
