The 4GB memory/64GB eMMC version is the entry option; the 8GB/128GB model gives more room for multitasking and local files. A deal roundup reported the 4GB model at $199, reduced from $419, in September 2026—historical pricing, not a confirmed current offer. Check the live listing before deciding.
What you’re choosing: two different configurations
The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook refresh with MediaTek Kompanio 540 appears in at least two materially different configurations. The Best Buy listings identify a 4GB memory/64GB eMMC model and an 8GB/128GB model, listed as model 83SX0001US. Chrome Unboxed reported that the lower-cost option retains the Kompanio 540 but moves from 8GB/128GB UFS to 4GB/64GB eMMC.

| Configuration | What is established | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| 4GB memory / 64GB eMMC | Best Buy listing; TechRadar reported a $199 price, marked down from $419, in September 2026. | Basic browsing, schoolwork, and other light ChromeOS tasks, if the current price is low. |
| 8GB memory / 128GB storage | Best Buy listing for model 83SX0001US; Chrome Unboxed described the higher configuration as 128GB UFS. | A more prudent choice for people who keep more tabs or apps open or store more files locally. |
The 8GB model’s advantage is a configuration-based judgment, not a claim supported by a hands-on speed test. Compare the current price gap as well as the specifications: more memory and storage are useful only if the premium fits your budget.

Is the 4GB/64GB model enough for your workload?
It is the more plausible choice if your Chromebook use is mostly in a browser, with schoolwork or other light tasks and modest local storage needs. At 4GB of memory, it offers less headroom for many open tabs or several apps at once than the 8GB model. Its 64GB eMMC storage also provides less capacity than the 128GB option.
#1 Best Overall
- Processor Model MediaTek Kompanio 500 Series
- Total Storage Capacity 64 gigabytes
- System Memory (RAM) 4 gigabytes
- Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA)
- Consider it if you mainly browse, use web-based tools, and can get it at a genuinely low current price.
- Look at the 8GB version instead if you routinely multitask, keep many tabs open, or want more space for local files.
- Do not treat it as a demanding-workload pick based on the available deal coverage, which characterized the entry configuration for school and basic tasks rather than demanding use.
The available evidence does not establish measured Kompanio 540 performance, battery life, display quality, typing comfort, durability, or real-world app compatibility. Those qualities should not be inferred from the older Slim 3 or from the memory and storage figures alone.
Check the exact model before comparing specifications
This Kompanio 540 refresh is not the same Chromebook as the earlier IdeaPad Slim 3 14M868. Lenovo’s PSREF identifies the 14M868 with a MediaTek Kompanio 520, so specifications for that older model—including its stated battery figure—should not be carried over to the Kompanio 540 version.

Best Buy describes the Kompanio 540 listing as a 14-inch 2K touchscreen, but detailed specifications can depend on the exact SKU. Confirm the panel resolution and finish, brightness, memory, storage type, keyboard, ports, and included charger on the specific listing you plan to buy. Lenovo cautions that product offerings may change without notice, and its captured PSREF material does not provide a full specification sheet for this Kompanio 540 configuration.
How to decide at the current price
- Identify the configuration. Confirm whether the listing is for 4GB/64GB or 8GB/128GB; do not assume a product page or deal headline covers both.
- Check the live price. The reported $199 sale price, down from $419, was reported by TechRadar in September 2026. It is dated deal context, not a verified offer today.
- Match it to your use. Favor the lower-cost model for light browsing and basic schoolwork; favor 8GB/128GB if you expect more multitasking or need more local storage.
- Verify the SKU’s details. Use the model number and current retailer listing to check the features that matter to you rather than borrowing specifications from the Kompanio 520 generation.
Without a confirmed live price for both configurations, there is no reliable blanket value verdict. Judge the 4GB model as a basic-use Chromebook at a low price, and weigh the 8GB model’s extra capacity against its actual price premium.
