Choose a Windows model if access to Windows software and services is essential. That flexibility can matter more than a streamlined handheld flow, but Windows and SteamOS reviews concern different tested configurations. Do not assume that a performance result or battery observation from one operating system and processor applies to the other.

Independent reviews of SteamOS models describe a strong gaming-handheld experience and praise the display or performance, but reviewers also call battery life middling. Those are assessments of their tested units, not a guarantee that every game will run at the same level on every Legion Go S configuration.

Tom’s Guide measured 1 hour 42 minutes in a continuous Wi-Fi web-surfing battery test on its Windows review unit in 2025, with the screen set to 150 nits. This was a web-browsing test, not a gaming-runtime estimate. Gaming battery life will depend on the game, settings and configuration; the published test should not be treated as a prediction for a SteamOS unit or a demanding game.
The 8-inch 1920×1200 screen and up-to-120Hz VRR are the clearest hardware appeal if screen size and smoothness matter to you. VRR capability and a high refresh-rate ceiling do not mean every game will run at 120 frames per second; actual performance depends on the game and configuration.

How to decide whether the Legion Go S is worth the price
There is no single value verdict without the current price and exact configuration. No current official US retail price is established here, so compare the listing in front of you rather than relying on an old launch price or review price.
- Consider it if you want an 8-inch handheld, value SteamOS’s gaming-oriented interface or need a Windows handheld, and accept battery life as a compromise.
- Check carefully if you are comparing Z2 Go and Z1 Extreme versions, or Windows and SteamOS versions. They are distinct configurations, not interchangeable names for one tested device.
