Lenovo Legion 5 15IAX11 for 1440p Gaming: Which RTX Configuration Should You Choose?

The Lenovo Legion 5 15IAX11 has the right display class for 1440p gaming: its 15.3-inch OLED panel is 2560 × 1600, not 2560 × 1440. Lenovo lists it with either an RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with 8GB of memory or an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 12GB, both rated at 115W. But those specifications alone do not establish game frame rates, temperatures, or fan noise, so the best configuration depends on the price and verified performance of the exact machine type you are considering.

What the 15IAX11 specifications do—and do not—tell you

Lenovo’s July 27, 2026 Legion 5 15IAX11 specifications reference describes a family of configurations, not one fixed review unit. Processor, graphics, memory, storage, and regional availability can vary. Any performance or value comparison therefore needs the precise machine type and its component list.

The official family specification confirms the hardware options below; it does not provide independent gaming benchmarks. A NotebookSPEC video review published August 2, 2026 identifies Thai-market machine type 83VK004ATA and includes sections for games, test results, cooling, and upgrades, but its indexed description does not provide benchmark figures, temperatures, fan-noise readings, or battery results. Its listed 79,990 THB is tied to that model and publication date, not a current or globally applicable price. NotebookSPEC’s review video

Which RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 configuration makes sense?

Lenovo lists both graphics options at 115W TGP. The RTX 5070 configuration has 12GB GDDR7, compared with 8GB GDDR7 on the RTX 5060. Those are specification differences, not proof of a particular frame-rate gap: the available review information does not establish comparable results for the two GPUs.

Configuration Lenovo-listed GPU specification What the specification can establish
RTX 5060 Laptop GPU 8GB GDDR7; 115W TGP A listed family option. Independent benchmark results are not established here.
RTX 5070 Laptop GPU 12GB GDDR7; 115W TGP A listed family option with more graphics memory. Independent benchmark results are not established here.

Choose between them using the price of the exact machine type and reliable tests that match your intended games and settings. For a useful comparison, look for the same game version, resolution, graphics preset, upscaling mode, and performance profile, and confirm which CPU and GPU were tested. A benchmark from one variant should not be presented as a result for the other.

Is the 2560 × 1600 OLED screen suitable for 1440p-class gaming?

Yes, in terms of resolution class, but the precise native resolution matters. Lenovo specifies a 15.3-inch, 16:10 WQXGA OLED display at 2560 × 1600. That is 1440p-class, with 160 more vertical pixels than standard 2560 × 1440. It is a 165Hz, glossy, non-touch panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage, 500-nit typical SDR brightness, and 1000-nit HDR peak brightness; Lenovo also lists NVIDIA G-SYNC and Advanced Optimus.

Lenovo Legion 5 16" WQXGA 240Hz Gaming Laptop, Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7; 32GB DDR5 RAM; 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD; Gigabit LAN, 2x2 WiFi 7
  • Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, 24C Processor
  • 16" WQXGA (2560x1600) IPS 500nits Anti-glare, 240Hz
  • 32GB DDR5-5600 RAM, 1TB SSD
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7
  • Wi-Fi 7 + Bluetooth 5.4

A high refresh rate is useful only if a game and graphics settings can deliver enough frames to take advantage of it. The listed panel specifications do not show how many frames either GPU will produce at native resolution. If a game proves too demanding at 2560 × 1600, lowering its render resolution or using an available upscaling option can trade image detail for smoother play. Actual results depend on the game and settings, and are not established by the specifications.

The OLED panel’s listed color coverage and brightness figures describe its capabilities, not a guarantee about every viewing condition. Because it is glossy, reflections may be noticeable in bright surroundings. Consider both the screen finish and the graphics load at native resolution when deciding whether this configuration suits your games and room.

Processors, memory, and a concrete US configuration

The family specification lists three processor options: Intel Core 7 245HX (14 cores/14 threads), Core Ultra 7 251HX (18 cores/18 threads), and Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus (24 cores/24 threads). Lenovo lists support for up to 32GB DDR5-5600 across two SODIMM slots. These options should not be treated as interchangeable review configurations: processor and installed memory can affect the experience, and the family maximum does not say how much RAM comes in every regional model.

For example, Lenovo’s US machine type 83VK0067US specification lists a Core Ultra 7 251HX, RTX 5060 with 8GB, one 16GB DDR5-5600 SODIMM, a 512GB M.2 2242 PCIe 4.0 SSD, an 80Wh battery, and the WQXGA OLED display. This is one specific US configuration, not a description of every 15IAX11 or a statement of current price or availability.

Can you add a second SSD?

Lenovo documents two M.2 storage slots in the family: one M.2 2242 PCIe 5.0 x4 slot and one M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot. It says the second slot is available for user self-expansion. That makes a second drive a documented upgrade path, but confirm the exact machine type, slot availability, and drive dimensions and interface before buying an SSD. The 83VK0067US example’s installed drive is a 2242 PCIe 4.0 SSD; that installed drive specification should not be mistaken for the full family slot description.

Ports and battery expectations

Lenovo lists Thunderbolt 4, USB-C with DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, three USB-A ports, Ethernet, and a 3.5mm combination audio jack. Those connections give the family options for peripherals and external displays; confirm the exact model specification if a particular port or display arrangement is essential.

The family has an 80Wh battery. Lenovo’s 2026 maximum test claims are 9.6 hours in MobileMark 30 at 250 nits and 12.5 hours of local 1080p video playback at 150 nits. Lenovo says actual battery life varies with configuration, use, software, wireless, power settings, and brightness. These controlled manufacturer figures are not gaming-runtime estimates; they do not establish how long the laptop will last while playing a particular game.

What to verify before buying

  • Read the full machine type and confirm its processor, GPU, installed RAM, SSD capacity, display, and regional warranty or availability.
  • Compare RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 prices for the actual configurations on offer, not just the GPU names.
  • For gaming claims, seek results that identify the tested configuration, resolution, settings, game version, and performance profile. Do not infer frame rates or cooling performance from Lenovo’s specification sheet.
  • If you plan an SSD upgrade, verify the exact slot and drive fit for your machine type.
