The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 14Q8X9—marketed as the IdeaPad Slim 5x (14-inch, Gen 9)—is a portable Windows laptop built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus. It looks best suited to everyday productivity, provided your essential apps work well on Windows on ARM and you choose a configuration with the display and memory you want. The family includes different display and memory options, so the model name alone does not tell you exactly what you are buying.
What is the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 14Q8X9?
Lenovo’s PSREF identifies model 14Q8X9 as the IdeaPad Slim 5x (14-inch, Gen 9). The listed processor is the eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100. Lenovo’s configurations include Windows 11 Home or Pro, 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5X-8448 memory, and up to a 1TB M.2 2242 SSD. Some configurations are limited to selected markets, so a regional product listing or review sample may not match every configuration in the family. Lenovo PSREF: IdeaPad Slim 5 14Q8X9

Which 14Q8X9 configuration has the OLED display?
OLED is an option, not a safe assumption based on the product-family name. Lenovo lists an optional 14-inch WUXGA OLED panel with a 1920 × 1200 resolution, 400-nit brightness, glossy finish, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and 60Hz refresh rate. Its product information describes OLED as available “up to” the specified configuration. The 91mobiles reviewer, by contrast, describes the review unit’s IPS display as average. Those descriptions are consistent with different configurations, not proof that every 14Q8X9 has the same panel. Lenovo PSREF · 91mobiles review, 20 August 2025

How does it perform for everyday work?
In its 20 August 2025 review, Sameer Mitha of 91mobiles reported using the laptop for video calls, streaming, presentations, spreadsheets, writing and email, with Google Meet and around 40 Chrome tabs among his typical tasks. He rated the laptop 8/10 overall, giving it 8.0 for design, 8.0 for display, 7.5 for performance, 8.5 for battery and 7.5 for connectivity. These ratings describe that publication’s review configuration and experience, not every regional SKU.

The review’s published benchmark results were:
| Benchmark | 91mobiles result |
|---|---|
| Cinebench R24 multi-core | 741 (91mobiles, 2025) |
| Cinebench R24 single-core | 108 (91mobiles, 2025) |
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 2,379 (91mobiles, 2025) |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 11,511 (91mobiles, 2025) |
| 3DMark Time Spy | 1,068 (91mobiles, 2025) |
These are results reported by 91mobiles for its review unit, not tests conducted for this article. The comparison laptops in that review used different processors and configurations, so the figures should not be treated as a general ranking against all laptops. The 3DMark result also does not establish that this is a gaming laptop: the reviewer notes limited capability for the latest AAA games.

Is Windows on ARM compatible with my apps?
The Snapdragon platform makes application compatibility a key part of the buying decision. Some Windows software may have an ARM-native version, while other apps may rely on emulation or may not work as expected. 91mobiles found everyday productivity usable but noted a smaller native app library and rough edges in the Windows-on-ARM experience. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a compatibility guarantee for your software.

How long does the IdeaPad Slim 5x battery last?
Battery figures vary with both the test and the workload. Lenovo lists a maximum of 25.2 hours for local 1080p video playback at 150 nits under its stated benchmark conditions. Lenovo cautions that actual runtime varies with configuration, use, software, wireless operation, power settings and screen brightness; battery capacity also declines with age and use. This maximum is not a promise of everyday work time. Lenovo PSREF

91mobiles reported 14 hours and 25 minutes for its review configuration in its own battery test. The reviewer also wrote, “I could comfortably get through a 9-hour workday and still have 15–20% battery left, depending on workload.” That is a first-person report for the reviewed unit and workload. It is not directly comparable to Lenovo’s local-video benchmark, and neither result guarantees the runtime you will get with a different panel, settings or work pattern. 91mobiles review

Who should consider the IdeaPad Slim 5 14Q8X9?
It is worth considering if you want a compact productivity laptop, have checked that your important software works on Windows on ARM, and can confirm the specific SKU has the display and memory you need. The independent review supports a positive picture of everyday work and battery life on its sample, while also flagging software compatibility rough edges and limited latest-AAA gaming capability.
