There is no reliable family-wide winner: both names cover multiple configurations, and the right choice depends on the exact model, price and market. In RTINGS’ comparison of the 15-inch 2023 models, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i had the better keyboard, touchpad and webcam, while the Acer Aspire 5 offered faster H-series processor options and nearly two hours longer battery life. Those findings apply to that comparison—not automatically to newer models or every SKU.
What the 2023 comparison says
RTINGS compared the Acer Aspire 5 15 (2023) with the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i 15 (2023); its comparison was updated April 9, 2026. It found a split rather than a universal winner:

- Keyboard, touchpad and webcam: RTINGS favored the Lenovo’s input devices and webcam.
- Processor options: The Aspire 5 family includes configurations with faster H-series CPUs. That does not mean every Aspire 5 is faster than every Slim 3i; compare the processors in the specific machines.
- Battery: The Acer lasted almost two hours longer in RTINGS’ comparison. This is a configuration- and test-specific result, not a guarantee for other versions.

“IdeaPad Slim 3i” and “Aspire 5” are product families, not fixed specifications. Lenovo’s US page covers a 15-inch IdeaPad Slim 3i Gen 10 family with multiple processor choices, while Lenovo’s PSREF documents particular machine types. Acer’s US store, in turn, lists different Aspire 5 A515-58P SKUs.
#1 Best Overall
- CPU: 12th Gen Intel Processor N100 0.8 GHz (4 Cores, 4 Threads, 6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz).
- Screen: 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080), Non-Touch; 88% AAR on the IdeaPad Slim 3i’s FHD LCD display, which comes with a taller 16:10 aspect ratio on the 16’’.
- RAM & Storage: 4GB DDR5 Memory; 128GB SSD Storage
- Ports: 1 x HDMI 1.4, 1 x Power in, 2 x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, 1x Headphone/mic combo, 1x SD card reader
Two Acer A515-58P examples listed in the cited US store have 15.6-inch Full HD displays, Intel Core i5-1335U processors, 8 GB LPDDR5 memory and 512 GB SSDs. Those are examples, not specifications for every Aspire 5. Confirm the panel type and brightness, memory configuration and other details in the documentation for the precise SKU rather than inferring them from the family name.

How to choose between them
Choose based on everyday use and calls
If typing comfort, touchpad responsiveness or video calls matter most, the 2023 RTINGS comparison points to the Lenovo. Treat that as a reason to consider the exact Lenovo configuration, not proof that every generation has the same advantage.
Choose based on processor workload
If your work benefits from a higher-performance processor, check whether the Aspire 5 SKU you are considering actually has an H-series CPU, then compare its exact processor with the Lenovo’s. A family name alone cannot establish which machine will be faster.
Choose based on time away from an outlet
The Acer’s nearly two-hour lead is specific to RTINGS’ 2023 comparison. Real battery life varies with configuration and workload, so use it as comparative evidence for those tested models—not as a runtime promise for a current purchase.
Check memory, screen and ports before paying
Verify RAM capacity and whether it can be upgraded, SSD size, display resolution and panel type, available ports, warranty and return policy. These details can change the value of two laptops even when their headline names sound similar.

Tom’s Guide reviewed one IdeaPad Slim 3i 15 (2026) configuration: Intel Core 7 350, integrated Intel graphics, 16 GB memory, a 512 GB SSD and a 15.3-inch 1920×1200 120 Hz touchscreen. In its web-browsing battery test, that configuration lasted 10 hours 33 minutes. Tom’s Guide listed a US price of $1,299 and sale prices around $799–$999 at the time of its review; these are historical review-time prices, not live quotes.
This is a single-product review, not a matched test against a contemporary Aspire 5. It cannot establish which current-generation laptop wins head-to-head. Read Tom’s Guide’s IdeaPad Slim 3i 15 (2026) review.
Compare the offers available where you live
Prices, configurations and availability vary by market and change over time. Compare the same local currency and similar configurations, then factor in warranty coverage and the return policy. A discount on one model is meaningful only against the exact configuration and price of the other—not against a different SKU or an outdated listed price.
For demanding games, graphics work or sustained multitasking, examine the specific GPU and memory limits before choosing. The family names alone do not tell you whether a configuration suits those workloads.
