Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i vs. Acer Aspire 3: Which Budget Laptop Should You Buy?

There is no reliable family-wide winner. “IdeaPad Slim 3i” and “Aspire 3” each cover multiple generations and configurations, so compare the exact model numbers, prices and specifications available in your country. Choose the one that best fits your workload after checking its processor, memory, display, storage, battery evidence, warranty and return terms.

Why the exact model number matters

A product-family name does not identify a fixed laptop. Specifications can vary by generation, screen size, processor, memory, storage and region. Lenovo itself notes that Slim 3i specifications may vary by model and region on its US IdeaPad Slim 3i Gen 9 15-inch page. Acer’s Aspire 3 listings likewise show distinct configurations.

For example, Lenovo’s US Gen 9 15-inch page lists a Core 3 100U and 8GB DDR5 memory. A separate Lenovo PSREF entry for the IdeaPad Slim 3i 15 Gen 10 / 15IRH10 lists a Core i5-13420H and an announce date of March 17, 2025. Lenovo’s PSREF specification reference cautions that specifications can change and advises checking local availability. These are different examples, not specifications shared by every Slim 3i.

Acer’s US specifications for the Aspire 3 A315-24P-R7VH list a Ryzen 3 7320U, 15.6-inch 1920 × 1080 IPS display, 8GB LPDDR5 and 128GB SSD. Those details apply to that SKU alone. Acer’s official specification page is the place to verify that configuration; check the full model number on any other listing.

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i 15.6" FHD Laptop, Intel Processor N100, 4GB DDR5 RAM, 128 SSD, WiFi 6, Windows 11 Home in S Mode, Arctic Grey, 82XB00HVUS
  • CPU: 12th Gen Intel Processor N100 0.8 GHz (4 Cores, 4 Threads, 6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz).
  • Screen: 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080), Non-Touch; 88% AAR on the IdeaPad Slim 3i’s FHD LCD display, which comes with a taller 16:10 aspect ratio on the 16’’.
  • RAM & Storage: 4GB DDR5 Memory; 128GB SSD Storage
  • Ports: 1 x HDMI 1.4, 1 x Power in, 2 x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, 1x Headphone/mic combo, 1x SD card reader

How to choose between the two

1. Match the market and full SKUs

Write down each laptop’s complete model or SKU number, country, and retailer before comparing. A family name by itself is not enough to establish equivalent specifications, price, warranty or availability.

2. Match processor and memory to your workload

Use the processor and memory in the exact listings, not assumptions based on “Slim 3i” or “Aspire 3.” For browsing, documents and video calls, consider whether the available memory and storage will suit your normal workload over the time you expect to keep the laptop. Do not infer a performance ranking from unrelated configurations.

3. Check the display you will actually use

Compare screen size, resolution, panel type, brightness, refresh rate and touchscreen status. The cited Aspire 3 A315-24P-R7VH is a 15.6-inch FHD IPS configuration, but that does not establish the display in every Aspire 3. Confirm the panel details for the specific Lenovo SKU as well.

4. Verify storage and ports

Check SSD capacity and confirm that the exact laptop has the ports you need for peripherals, displays and charging. The cited Acer A315-24P-R7VH has a 128GB SSD; other Aspire 3 configurations can differ.

5. Treat battery figures as model- and method-specific

Acer lists up to 13.50 hours of maximum runtime for the A315-24P-R7VH and separately describes up to 11 hours based on MobileMark 2018 testing. These are Acer’s claims for that SKU, not a directly comparable result against a Slim 3i. Independent battery results are most useful when they cover the exact models you are considering.

6. Compare the complete purchase offer

Check current price, stock, warranty and return terms for both exact models in the same market. A captured Acer US store listing for the different Aspire 3 A315-24PT-R8W1 showed $449.99 and out of stock; that dated, SKU-specific listing is not a current price benchmark for every Aspire 3. See Acer’s US Aspire 3 store listings for the listing details, and confirm the current offer with the retailer.

What a head-to-head review can—and cannot—tell you

RTINGS’ 2023 comparison identifies its IdeaPad Slim 3i 15 test unit as model 82X70005US, with an i3-1315U, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. That is evidence about that particular test unit, not every Slim 3i named in a current listing. RTINGS also has a separate comparison involving the Slim 3i and an Aspire 3 Spin 14; the Spin is a convertible form factor, so it is not interchangeable with a standard Aspire 3 laptop for this comparison. Use independent results only when the reviewed model and configuration match the one you plan to buy.

A practical decision rule

  • Choose the exact laptop with the stronger fit for your workload and required memory, storage, display and ports—not simply the more familiar family name.
  • If the key specifications are similar, compare the current local price, warranty and return policy for the exact SKUs.
  • If a listing omits a specification that matters to you, verify it with the manufacturer or retailer before buying rather than assuming another configuration’s details apply.
