The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14Q8X9 is worth considering if you want a touchscreen OLED convertible with strong battery life and your everyday apps run well on Windows for ARM. Its main compromise is software compatibility: x86 apps that rely on emulation can be slower, so an AMD or Intel convertible may be a safer choice for demanding or specialized Windows workloads. Check the exact regional configuration before buying; the display, storage and included pen can vary.
Which IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 is the 14Q8X9?
The 14Q8X9 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon branch of Lenovo’s IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 family, marketed in at least one retailer listing as the IdeaPad 5X 2-in-1. It is not the AMD-based IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14AHP9. The distinction matters: their processors, software behavior and configuration details are different.

Notebookcheck reviewed a configuration with a Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 processor and Adreno X1-45 graphics. Its review also shows a 16GB-memory, 1TB-storage comparison configuration, while its linked retailer listing describes 16GB memory and 512GB storage. Treat those as distinct configurations, not interchangeable specifications. Notebookcheck’s review, dated January 4, 2025, is one tested configuration; your local listing is the authority for what is actually included.
What are its strengths?
Battery life is the standout
Notebookcheck measured 16 hours and 3 minutes in its Wi-Fi web-browsing test on the reviewed unit, which has a 57Wh battery. That is a result from the publication’s particular test protocol, not a guarantee of mixed-use runtime. Under its maximum-brightness load test, the same review reports 1 hour and 14 minutes. Notebookcheck also observed a full charge from empty in about 70 minutes with the included AC adapter. These figures describe its review unit and conditions, not every 14Q8X9 configuration or a typical owner’s day.

The review’s broader finding is that the Snapdragon system can deliver good performance per watt in ARM-optimized software while running cooler and more quietly than the AMD and Intel alternatives it compared. That efficiency is most useful if your real workload is supported natively; it does not make every application equally fast.
The convertible design and OLED option
Lenovo’s PSREF describes a 360-degree hinge supporting laptop, tent, stand and tablet modes, plus a 14-inch WUXGA OLED touchscreen option. The product-family display result specifies 400 nits, 100% DCI-P3 color coverage and a 60Hz refresh rate. Verify these details against the precise machine sold in your country rather than assuming every 14Q8X9 listing has the same panel. Lenovo’s family specification also lists a 57Wh battery. The OLED and touch combination suits media viewing, reading, drawing and flexible desk or travel use. However, Notebookcheck notes that this model does not offer HDR or a high-refresh-rate display option. If those are priorities, confirm the panel’s capabilities rather than treating OLED alone as a guarantee of either.

What is the main drawback?
App compatibility depends on what you use
This is a Windows-on-ARM laptop. Applications compiled for ARM can perform efficiently, but some x86 applications run through emulation and may be slower. The impact varies by application and workload; the review does not support a blanket claim that x86 software will fail, nor that emulation has a uniform performance penalty.

Before choosing this model, check the status of your essential programs and peripherals, especially specialist work software, older utilities, drivers and tools that depend on particular plug-ins. If your work depends on a specific application, verify that its publisher supports Windows on ARM or test the exact workflow before relying on the laptop. Notebookcheck’s assessment is that comparable AMD or Intel models can offer more predictable and often faster performance, particularly when the workload depends on emulation.
Graphics are not a reason to buy it for gaming
Notebookcheck describes the integrated graphics as weak. Its review includes a 1080p, low-preset result for one game, but that single result cannot predict performance across a library of games. Consider the 14Q8X9 for everyday computing and light graphics needs, not as a gaming laptop for demanding titles.

Other review-unit compromises
Notebookcheck also criticizes the speakers and reports limited support for 80mm M.2 SSDs. Those observations are useful if sound quality or storage upgrades matter to you, but they should not be mistaken for a guarantee about every regional configuration. Check the exact device and upgrade options before purchase.
Should you buy it or choose an AMD or Intel convertible?
The choice is primarily about workload and priorities, not a universal performance winner. Notebookcheck’s review favors the Snapdragon model for efficiency, low noise and battery life with ARM-optimized apps; it says same-priced AMD and Intel alternatives may be faster and more predictable for workloads that run through emulation. Its comparison names the HP Pavilion x360 14, Dell Inspiron 14 7435 2-in-1 and the AMD IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14AHP9 as alternatives. These are review-level comparisons, not guarantees for every configuration.
| Choose the 14Q8X9 if… | Look more closely at AMD or Intel if… |
|---|---|
| Your priority is long battery life, and your regular apps work well on Windows for ARM. | You rely on x86 software or specialist tools whose performance and compatibility you need to be predictable. |
| You want a touch OLED convertible and confirm that the regional SKU has the panel you want. | Your workload needs stronger graphics performance, or gaming is a significant use case. |
| You value the review’s reported efficiency and quieter, cooler operation over peak performance in every app. | You want a more dependable fit for demanding workloads that may be emulated. |
Notebookcheck reported an $800 USD price at the time of its review, dated January 4, 2025. That is historical context, not a current offer or a reliable basis for comparing value today. Compare current prices for machines with equivalent memory, storage, display and included accessories.
Quick Recap
What to check before ordering
- Confirm the model code. Make sure the listing is for 14Q8X9, the Snapdragon model, rather than the AMD 14AHP9 or another similarly named IdeaPad.
- Read the configuration details. Verify processor, memory, storage and display for the exact SKU and region. Lenovo’s configuration record for 83GH0059IN is one specific configuration, not a specification for all machines in the family. Lenovo PSREF configuration 83GH0059IN
- Check your critical apps. Look for Windows-on-ARM support for the software and peripherals you cannot do without; do not assume the review’s performance applies to a different application.
- Confirm whether a pen is bundled. Lenovo PSREF lists family configurations with Lenovo Digital Pen 2 variants and configurations with no pen. Check the listing contents and pen compatibility before budgeting for a separate purchase.
- Compare current like-for-like pricing. Match RAM, storage, screen and included pen, and use current regional prices rather than the review-era price.
