Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5: Who Should Buy This Convertible Chromebook?

Yes—if you want a touchscreen Chromebook for school, web work, video calls, and everyday productivity, and the particular configuration suits your needs. The Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5 combines ChromeOS with a 360-degree hinge, but “Flex 5” covers multiple generations and hardware options. Check the exact model, processor, memory, display, battery condition, and price before deciding. It is not the Windows IdeaPad Flex 5 or the later 14-inch Flex 5i Chromebook Plus.

Which Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5 are you considering?

Flex 5 is a family name, not one fixed specification. Lenovo documents Chromebook platforms including the 13IML05 and 13ITL6, with different processor generations and configuration options. The 13ITL6, for example, was offered with Celeron, Pentium, Core i3, and Core i5 processors; memory, storage, and display can also vary by SKU. Check the model number on the listing, the system information, or the label on the laptop’s underside. Lenovo’s 13ITL6 specification sheet and 13IML05 specification sheet help distinguish the platforms.

Keep comparisons within the same product category: the Chromebook Flex 5 runs ChromeOS, while a Windows IdeaPad Flex 5 is a different product. The 14-inch Flex 5i Chromebook Plus is also distinct, so its specifications and reviews should not be applied to the 13-inch models discussed here.

What makes the Flex 5 useful?

A convertible touchscreen design

The touchscreen and 360-degree hinge let you use the computer in laptop, tent, stand, or tablet-style positions. That flexibility can be useful for browsing, documents, classroom tasks, streaming, and touch-based interaction. It matters most if you expect to switch modes; if you will use it only as a conventional laptop, the hinge may be less important than the screen, processor, or condition.

ChromeOS rather than Windows

ChromeOS is a good fit for web-oriented work and tasks supported by its available apps. It is not a safe assumption that a particular desktop program or specialized workflow will work as it does on Windows. Before buying, check compatibility for the exact applications and peripherals you rely on. The Flex 5’s convertible design does not change that software trade-off.

Ports and wireless features

Lenovo’s US product page for its listed Flex 5 configuration specifies two USB-C ports, USB-A, an audio jack, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.0. Treat those as details for that product page rather than a guarantee for every generation or SKU; Lenovo notes that specifications and availability may change. Check the ports on the exact listing or unit if you need a particular connection. Lenovo’s product page

How do performance and screen quality vary?

For many open tabs or heavier ChromeOS workloads, a Core i3 or Core i5 model with more memory is a safer choice than a low-end configuration. That is a practical inference from the range of processor options, not a benchmark result comparing every SKU. A processor tier alone does not determine value: memory, storage, display, battery health, and price matter too.

The 13ITL6 specifications illustrate why the exact screen matters. Lenovo lists one 13.3-inch Full HD IPS touch option at 1920 × 1080, 250 nits, and 45% NTSC, as well as an OLED option for some configurations. Do not assume every Flex 5 has OLED, or that every panel is equally bright or color-accurate. Confirm the panel type for the unit being sold in the 13ITL6 specifications.

Independent reviews of particular configurations from their era often praised the keyboard and value or design. Those observations are not a guarantee for every unit or a current performance comparison. Engadget also noted muffled audio with the screen in stand mode; that is a mode-specific observation, not evidence that audio is poor in every position. See the Android Central review, Engadget review, and Chrome Unboxed review for their respective review-unit assessments.

How long does the battery last?

Lenovo lists a 51 Wh battery for the documented 13ITL6 platform and advertises up to 10 hours for relevant configurations. “Up to” is a manufacturer maximum, not a promise of day-long runtime. Lenovo cautions that actual battery life varies with configuration, workload, wireless use, power settings, screen brightness, and battery age. The 13ITL6 documentation also lists a 45 W USB-C Power Delivery adapter.

For a separate real-world reference, Laptop Mag measured 7 hours 20 minutes on its review unit in a continuous web-surfing test at 150 nits in 2020. That result belongs to that tested unit and method; it is not a direct comparison with Lenovo’s maximum unless workload, brightness, configuration, and battery condition align. A used laptop’s battery may have aged since its original testing. Laptop Mag’s review reports the test, and Lenovo’s PSREF gives the platform specifications and battery caveat. For a used unit, ask about battery condition or test its runtime; do not count on a full school or workday without checking the actual device.

What should you check before buying a used or refurbished Flex 5?

Because the family spans configurations and older units may have different wear, compare the specific device rather than relying on the Flex 5 name. Use this checklist:

  • Model and generation: identify the exact model number and distinguish 13IML05 from 13ITL6.
  • Processor and memory: match the configuration to your workload, especially if you keep many tabs open.
  • Storage: confirm capacity and type in the listing or system information.
  • Display and touch: verify panel type, resolution, brightness details where available, and touch function rather than assuming OLED.
  • Battery: ask about wear and current runtime, or test the unit under your expected workload.
  • Physical condition: inspect the screen, hinge, keyboard, ports, charger, and touchscreen response.
  • Terms and price: weigh the current asking price against condition, warranty or return terms, and the configuration. Current prices and availability vary, so a model name alone cannot establish whether a listing is good value.

Who is the Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5 a good choice for?

It can be a sensible choice for a student or everyday user whose work is primarily web-based and who will benefit from the touchscreen and convertible positions. A stronger processor and more memory are preferable when the budget and available listing make them practical. It is a weaker fit if your work depends on a specific desktop application that is unavailable or unsuitable on ChromeOS, or if you need a particular screen quality or battery runtime that the listed unit cannot demonstrate.

For an older or refurbished Flex 5, make the decision on its exact configuration, present condition, battery, and asking price—not its original reputation or a review of a different model. No single battery figure or review verdict settles whether an individual used unit is worth buying.
