It is Android-only, requires Android 12 or newer, supports Adreno and Mali GPUs, and documents Android-focused features such as frame generation, driver management, save import, motion controls, input macros and experimental quick save/load. Sudachi is the better fit only when you specifically need one emulator across Android, Linux, macOS and Windows. Yuzu remains historically important and its repository still makes broad performance claims, but the available material does not establish it as the best current Android option.
What the comparison can—and cannot—prove
There is no current, common test suite covering Lemon, Yuzu and Sudachi on the same Android phone, with the same game versions, graphics settings, drivers and emulator builds. That means a universal frames-per-second ranking would be misleading. The defensible comparison is based on documented Android support, GPU coverage, maintenance signals, features, compatibility evidence, setup requirements and legal guidance.

Performance also varies substantially with the phone or handheld. The GPU family, Android release, cooling system, controller layout, driver choice and the specific Switch title all affect whether a game is playable. A result reported for one Snapdragon device should not be treated as a guarantee for another Snapdragon phone, much less a Mali or Xclipse device.
Quick verdict
| Reader priority | Best-supported choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Android-first use on a recent phone or handheld | Lemon | Official documentation targets Android 12 or newer, supports Adreno and Mali, and lists the most detailed Android feature set. |
| One project across Android and desktop operating systems | Sudachi | Its current README lists Android, Linux, macOS and Windows, although the same README says compatibility information is unavailable. |
| Historical ecosystem and broad project claims | Yuzu | The repository documents Android builds and says most commercial games can run at full speed on suitable hardware, but this is not a current independent Android comparison. |
If you want one installation for an Android 12-or-newer device and your graphics processor is Adreno or Mali, Lemon has the clearest documented case. If cross-platform continuity matters more than current public compatibility information, Sudachi is the logical alternative. Yuzu should be approached as a historically influential project and reference point, not as a proven current winner.

Lemon: the strongest documented Android-first option
Platform and hardware support
Lemon describes itself as an Android-only Nintendo Switch emulator. Its homepage says it is made for Adreno GPUs and, since version 1.1, Mali GPUs as well. The listed operating-system requirement is Android 12 or newer. That combination makes Lemon unusually straightforward to evaluate: it is designed for the platform in this comparison rather than being a desktop emulator with an Android build.
Lemon’s FAQ says PowerVR and Xclipse graphics are not tuned or tested. Owners of devices using those GPU families should therefore treat compatibility as uncertain even when the phone meets the Android-version requirement. The absence of a documented test claim is not evidence that every game fails; it means the project does not provide the same level of assurance it gives for Adreno and Mali.
Features documented by the project
- Built-in frame generation.
- Online play through Nextendo Network.
- Per-game driver management, including an Adreno driver manager.
- Save import.
- Motion controls.
- Input macros.
- Experimental Quick Save and Quick Load.
Quick Save and Quick Load deserve a warning: Lemon labels them experimental and says they should not replace a game’s own save system. Use the title’s normal save mechanism as the authoritative copy, especially before changing drivers, updating the emulator or testing a new build.

Build choices
The repository lists three builds: Lemon, Lemon Lite and Lemon Lite & Spoofed. Lemon Lite uses lighter defaults for Adreno 6xx, Adreno 7xx and Mali devices. That is a configuration choice, not a promise of higher performance in every game. A less aggressive default may improve stability or reduce heat on a marginal device, while a demanding title may still need per-game adjustment.
Why Lemon leads this comparison
Lemon combines a current Android requirement, explicit support for two major mobile GPU families and a feature list written around phone and handheld use. It also gives users practical controls—driver selection, save import and motion input—that matter when a game behaves differently from one device to another. These are documentation advantages, not proof that Lemon renders every title faster than the other emulators.
Sudachi: cross-platform reach with limited current evidence
Where it runs
Sudachi’s current README describes a C++ Nintendo Switch emulator for Android, Linux, macOS and Windows. That broad platform coverage is its clearest differentiator. Someone who moves between a phone, a Linux desktop and a Windows PC may value a common project and workflow more than an Android-only design.

The maintenance and compatibility caveat
The same current README states, “Compatibility is currently unavailable.” It also says, “Contributions will not be accepted, please do not create pull requests as they will be closed.” Those statements make Sudachi difficult to recommend as the single best Android choice on documented evidence alone. They do not prove that no games run; they show that readers cannot rely on a current, published compatibility catalog or an open contribution path when diagnosing a problem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose Sudachi when its cross-platform availability is a requirement and you are comfortable validating each game on your own hardware. Keep backups of saves and configuration files before switching between builds or operating systems, because a project with limited current compatibility documentation gives you less official guidance when something breaks.
Yuzu: what its Android documentation actually establishes
Android builds and the performance statement
The consulted yuzu repository README says the project maintains builds for Windows, Linux and Android. It also says, “The emulator is capable of running most commercial games at full speed, provided you meet the necessary hardware requirements.” That is a broad project statement, not an independent benchmark and not a guarantee for a particular phone, game version or graphics driver.
The available material does not provide a controlled Android head-to-head test against Lemon and Sudachi. You therefore cannot use that sentence alone to conclude that Yuzu is faster, more compatible or better maintained for Android than either alternative.
Historical legal context
In a complaint filed on February 26, 2024, Nintendo described Windows/Linux and Android versions of Yuzu and alleged more than one million downloads of the free Android version and more than 10,000 downloads of a paid version as of that filing. Those numbers are allegations and historical legal-record claims, not a current availability count or a performance measurement. The complaint also alleged circumvention and facilitation of piracy; because it was a complaint, those assertions should not be presented as adjudicated findings.

Which emulator fits your phone or handheld?
Adreno phones
Lemon is the most directly documented fit for Adreno hardware. The project specifically names Adreno, provides an Adreno driver manager and offers Lemon Lite defaults for Adreno 6xx and 7xx devices. Those details make it the sensible first installation for a compatible Android 12-or-newer phone or handheld, while leaving room to test the standard and Lite builds against the games you own.
Mali phones
Lemon’s documentation includes Mali support from version 1.1 and lists lighter defaults for Mali devices. That is stronger evidence than a generic “Android supported” label. It still does not predict performance for every Mali generation, so monitor heat, sustained clocks and graphical errors during a complete play session rather than judging from a short boot.
PowerVR or Xclipse devices
Lemon says these GPU families are not tuned or tested. If your device uses one, consider the emulator an experiment and keep expectations conservative. A game that launches may still suffer from missing effects, shader problems, crashes or poor sustained performance.

Android gaming handhelds
An Android gaming handheld is a legitimate use case because Lemon explicitly targets phones and handhelds. Before buying or configuring one, check four things together: Android 12 or newer, the GPU family, active cooling and physical controls. A handheld can be more comfortable than a phone, but its smaller thermal solution or lower-power chip may reduce sustained performance. Conversely, good cooling and dedicated controls can make long sessions more practical even when peak benchmark numbers are similar.
No particular retail model has been tested or endorsed here. Treat any handheld recommendation as conditional on the exact chipset, firmware, cooling design and game.
How to choose without relying on misleading FPS claims
- Identify the device. Record the Android version, GPU family, chipset and available cooling. Confirm Android 12 or newer before selecting Lemon.
- Match the project to your priority. Start with Lemon for Android-first use; choose Sudachi when Android, Linux, macOS and Windows coverage is essential; treat Yuzu as a historically important alternative whose broad README claim is not a current comparison.
- Use a legally dumped test game. Test a title you own, with your own keys and firmware, rather than judging an emulator from downloaded packages of uncertain origin.
- Keep the test repeatable. Record the emulator build, game version, graphics settings, driver, resolution, session length and whether the device is cool or heat-soaked. Without those variables, “faster” reports are difficult to reproduce.
- Test a complete session. Check booting, shader compilation, menus, a demanding area, audio, controller input, sleep/resume and save behavior. A high initial frame rate does not reveal crashes or thermal throttling later.
- Protect saves before experimenting. Use the game’s normal save system. If you test Lemon’s experimental Quick Save or Quick Load, keep an independent in-game save first.
Setup and data-provenance checklist
The projects do not supply a legal game library. Lemon’s homepage and FAQ state that users must provide their own games, keys and firmware, dumped from a console they own; the emulator does not include or distribute those files.

- 6.2” LCD screen.
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Obtain the emulator from the project’s own published distribution or repository, checking that the build matches your Android version and device architecture.
- Use only game files, keys and firmware you are legally entitled to use in your jurisdiction.
- Keep original dumps and backup copies separate from experimental emulator data.
- Import saves carefully and verify that the game opens and saves normally before deleting the original.
- Do not install files advertised as preloaded games, keys or firmware when their provenance is unclear.
Emulation itself is generally described by Lemon as legal, but legality depends on what you copy, download and use. Copyright, circumvention and private-copy rules differ by jurisdiction. The safest general principle is to use your own console dumps and avoid unauthorized game or key downloads.
Online play, drivers and controls
Online play
Lemon documents online play through Nextendo Network. That is a project-specific implementation, not proof that every Switch online feature or every game is supported. Sudachi and Yuzu do not have a comparable online-play feature statement in the material used for this comparison, so do not assume feature parity.
Drivers
Driver management is one of Lemon’s practical advantages on Android. The project documents per-game driver management and an Adreno driver manager, which can help when one title renders correctly only with a different driver. Driver changes can also introduce new bugs; change one variable at a time and retain a known-good configuration.
Controllers and motion input
Lemon lists motion controls and input macros. These features matter for games that depend on tilt, pointing or repeated inputs, but their usefulness depends on the phone’s sensors, controller connection and the title’s input mapping. Test every required action before committing to a long playthrough.
Common failure modes and what they mean
The app installs but a game will not boot
Check that the Android version and GPU are within the project’s documented target, then verify the game dump, keys and firmware. If the device uses PowerVR or Xclipse, remember that Lemon explicitly says those families are not tuned or tested. A failed boot is not by itself evidence that a different emulator will work on the same hardware.

Suspect heat and sustained performance before assuming the emulator is universally incompatible. Remove a case, improve airflow, lower demanding settings and retest after the device cools. Record whether the issue appears only after thermal buildup; that distinction is more useful than a brief menu benchmark.

- Two players can each take one
- Multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options (additional Joy-Con sold separately)
- Slip a set of Joy-Con into a Joy-Con grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
Graphics are broken after changing drivers
Restore the previous per-game driver, restart the emulator and test the same scene. Keep a written record of the driver that worked. Do not change the game version, emulator build and driver simultaneously, because you will lose the ability to identify the cause.
A quick save will not restore correctly
Lemon marks Quick Save and Quick Load as experimental. Return to the game’s own save system, verify the normal save file, and treat quick states as disposable experiments rather than your only progress.
A controller or motion action is missing
Check the input mapping and the phone’s sensor behavior, then test the same action in a simple game scene. Lemon documents motion controls and macros, but a listed feature does not guarantee that every controller, sensor or game mapping is automatically configured.
Legal boundaries in plain language
Using an emulator and using unauthorized copies are separate questions. Lemon’s stated guidance is to dump your own games, keys and firmware from a console you own. Follow the law where you live, and avoid downloading shared keys, firmware or game packages. Nintendo’s February 2024 complaint made allegations about Yuzu’s circumvention and piracy facilitation; those allegations should not be treated as a court judgment, but they illustrate why the source of every file matters.
Final recommendation
For an Android 12-or-newer phone or handheld with an Adreno or Mali GPU, install Lemon first. It has the clearest current Android focus, the most detailed device-specific guidance and the broadest documented set of mobile features. Use its Lite build when its lighter defaults suit your device, and keep normal in-game saves because Quick Save and Quick Load remain experimental.
Choose Sudachi when running the same project on Android and desktop systems is more important than having a published compatibility picture. Its README’s “compatibility is currently unavailable” notice means you will be doing more of your own validation.
Keep Yuzu in historical context. Its repository documents Android builds and claims that most commercial games can reach full speed on suitable hardware, but that statement is neither a controlled Android benchmark nor evidence that it is the best current choice. Across all three, the right answer ultimately depends on your exact GPU, cooling, Android release and game—and on using legally obtained game data.
