It is a weaker choice for a bright living room, for a setup with several external sources and no AV receiver or switch, or for anyone who needs a measured brightness figure rather than a manufacturer maximum.
Leica’s published specifications come from its May 2026 technical data sheet. The hands-on observations come from a single review by François Richard at Son-Vidéo.com, published 12 August 2026. We have not tested the projector ourselves. Where this article describes how the projector performs, it is reporting that review and the test setup it describes.

The optics and processing behind the Leica name
Leica identifies the lens as a Summicron zoom and the image processing as Leica Image Optimization (LIO). Its Cine Compact 1 product page adds 360-degree rotation and automatic image adjustment. The Leica name, then, is attached to the lens and processing. The sources cited here do not provide an independent measurement that separates how much of the picture quality comes from the optics, the processing, or the laser light source.
#1 Best Overall
- LEICA OPTICAL EXCELLENCE — A Leica Summicron aspherical zoom lens, triple RGB laser, and Leica Image Optimization (LIO) combine with true 4K resolution, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision for sharp, vividly colored, high-contrast images.
- UP TO 220" OF BRILLIANT PROJECTION — 1,700 ANSI lumens brightness scales your picture from a compact 60" in bright rooms to a full 220" cinematic display after dark — indoors or outside.
- 360° FLEXIBLE, FULLY AUTOMATIC SETUP — The full-metal swing system rotates a complete 360°, letting you project on walls, ceilings, from a desk, or on the included Floor Stand adapter. Autofocus, auto keystone correction, and auto screen framing align the image with zero manual adjustment.
- SMART, ALL-IN-ONE ENTERTAINMENT — Built-in VIDAA smart OS gives instant access to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and YouTube, plus Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4, Apple AirPlay, and Apple HomeKit for seamless streaming and casting — no extra devices required.
- PREMIUM SOUND, PREMIUM DESIGN — Integrated 0.75L speakers with Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS Virtual:X deliver clear, balanced audio, housed in a timeless one-piece aluminum body with a glass front built to last — backed by a 3-year Leica warranty.
How bright is it in a living room?
Leica rates the projector at up to 1,700 lumens in Ultra mode. That is the maximum on the manufacturer’s sheet, and the sheet does not give a typical brightness for other modes. No independently measured lumen figure is available from the sources cited here.
What the reviewer saw under ambient light
François Richard’s review reports that ambient light reduced both contrast and intensity. Brightness became the limiting factor as room light increased, and the projector performed best in a dark room. The reviewer recommends dim or dark-room use.
What this means in practice
- A dedicated or light-controlled room is the setup the review favours.
- Treat a bright living room, with lamps and daylight, as the weakest case for this projector.
- Read the 1,700-lumen figure as a ceiling on what the hardware can reach, not as the brightness you will see at your sofa.
Can it project onto the ceiling?
Yes, according to Leica. The product page describes 360-degree rotation, and the rotation system supports wall and ceiling projection. In the review, autofocus and keystone correction worked well on first use. Automatic screen framing, however, needed manual adjustment.

Throw distance is the other half of placement. Leica lists an optical throw ratio of 1.0–1.3. Throw ratio is the distance from lens to screen divided by image width. As a worked example (our arithmetic, not Leica’s), a 100-inch 16:9 image is about 2.21 m wide, so the optical range implies a throw of roughly 2.2 m to 2.9 m.
The sources do not establish a ceiling mount kit, its load rating, or the mounting steps. Confirm those with Leica before planning a ceiling installation.
Streaming, apps and HDMI
VIDAA is built in, and Leica’s product page lists Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay and Dolby Vision support alongside it. In the review, the VIDAA interface is described as responsive. The apps installed during that test were Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Paramount+ and YouTube. App lineups vary by region and software version, so confirm that the service you need is available where you will buy.

The review lists the following connections:
- Wi-Fi 6
- Bluetooth 5.4
- One HDMI 2.1 input with eARC
- One USB-A 3.0 port
The one-HDMI limitation
The review calls a single HDMI input a compromise for anyone with several sources. Two workable routes follow from that:
- Use an AV receiver with several HDMI inputs as the source hub, then run one HDMI cable from the receiver to the projector.
- Use an HDMI switch or hub in the same role if you only need to choose between sources.
The sources cited here do not establish the built-in speaker performance, so plan for external audio if sound quality matters to you.

Image precision, colour and HDR
The reviewer praised image precision, natural-looking colour and HDR rendering. These are subjective observations from one review, not measured colour accuracy or HDR figures. The sheet’s claims of greater than 100% BT.2020 coverage and support for Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG are manufacturer statements. The review’s praise is separate evidence about how the picture looked on that reviewer’s setup.
Comparison models
The review also places the Cine Compact 1 alongside the Hisense C3 and Xgimi Horizon 20. Treat those comparisons as the reviewer’s qualitative judgments. No measured side-by-side data for the three models is available from the sources cited here.
Price and availability
Leica announced the projector on 2 June 2026, with a release date of 18 June 2026 and a recommended retail price of €1,645 for Europe and several other named regions. The announcement said Japan availability would follow in July. The Leica press announcement is the launch reference; the Leica Camera USA retail page is the source of the US figure below.

Claims to read with care
- Projection life: Leica’s product page states a projection life of up to 25,000 hours. That is a manufacturer claim. The review did not observe lifespan.
- Latency: The figures of up to 20 ms in gamer mode and up to 60 ms in other modes are sheet specifications. No independent latency test is cited here.
- Endorsement: Leica’s product page quotes Ása Steinars, identified as an adventure content creator from Iceland: “I’m so impressed by the image quality delivered by this small projector. You can use it anywhere, and it looks really good wherever you place it.” This is promotional testimony, not an independent controlled test.
Accessories and setup
- Floor Stand 1: Leica says the projector is compatible with its Floor Stand 1 using the supplied adapter. Confirm this on the product page before buying.
- Screen: A screen is optional. The reviewer used a Lumene Coliseum UHD 4K motorized screen. That is one example in one setup, not a requirement or a guarantee of compatibility with other screens.
- Source switching: If you have several devices, the one-HDMI section above describes the AV receiver and switch options.
Who should buy it, and who should look elsewhere
Buy it if:
- Most of your viewing happens in a dark or dim room.
- You want to move the projector between wall and ceiling placements.
- You mainly use built-in apps and a single external source, or you already own an AV receiver or switch.
- The local price is in line with the launch figure for your region.
Look elsewhere if:
- The projector will live in a bright living room.
- You need several HDMI inputs and do not want to add a receiver or switch.
- You need a measured brightness or colour figure before buying. None is established in the sources cited here.
When comparing it with the Leica Cine Play 1 or other compact projectors, check the same points on each spec sheet and in each review:
