They are distinct from later retail versions, and although a 2026 report said a pair was listed at Heritage Auctions for $1,000, that report does not establish that the lot is still available or that it sold for that amount.
What are the Toy Fair 2012 minifigures?
They are two LEGO Marvel promotional minifigures cataloged as Toy Fair 2012 exclusives: Captain America sh0028 and Iron Man – Model 37 Armor sh0027. BrickLink lists the figures under those names and numbers in its 2012 Super Heroes minifigure catalog.

The figures are associated with the launch of LEGO’s Marvel theme, but they should not be mistaken for the full launch line or the retail versions of the characters. The Toy Fair pair are specific promotional variants.
How they fit into LEGO’s Avengers launch
The LEGO Group and Marvel announced a multi-year licensing relationship on July 20, 2011. The announcement said the first LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets, minifigures, and buildable characters were planned for May 2012, ahead of the summer release of Marvel’s The Avengers. LEGO named Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Loki, and Black Widow for the Avengers movie line. The announcement does not give a production quantity for the Toy Fair figures. (The LEGO Group’s July 20, 2011 announcement.)

That timeline is why the exclusives are described as launch-related promotional figures: they appeared in the context of the new theme, rather than constituting the launch themselves.
How to tell the promotional variants from later versions
Secondary coverage describes visible differences that can help identify the Toy Fair versions, but appearance alone is not an authentication guarantee.

Check the item against the exact variant name and number rather than assuming that any LEGO Iron Man or Captain America minifigure from 2012 is one of these exclusives.

How rare are they?
ComicBook.com and Brick Fanatics report that 125 of each figure were produced. Brick Fanatics attributes that count to Minifigure Price Guide and Atlanta Brick Co.; it is a secondary-source figure, not a quantity stated in LEGO’s 2011 announcement. It is best treated as a reported production count rather than a LEGO-confirmed total.

Can you buy them now?
ComicBook.com reported on October 2, 2026, that the pair had been listed at Heritage Auctions for $1,000. The auction page could not be verified, so this is a report of a listing at that time—not confirmation that the lot remains open, sold, or achieved $1,000. The same article described eBay asking prices of $800–$900 for individual figures; those were reported asking prices, not verified sales or a reliable market-wide valuation.

Before buying, compare the claimed variant, the figure’s condition and completeness, and any seller documentation. Ask whether original Toy Fair card backing or other provenance is included, and request clear photographs of the printed details and relevant parts. The available sources do not establish a formal authentication procedure, so a listing title or visual resemblance by itself should not be treated as proof.
