The Skywalker Saga released on April 5, 2022, and packages Episodes I through IX in one LEGO adaptation. The number is an official headline figure, not a promise that every character has a wholly unique moveset or that all are available immediately. Many are earned through story progress, exploration or side activities.
Planets, space travel and classes
Lucasfilm Games and StarWars.com describe more than 20 unlockable planets. These locations form a connected travel-and-exploration layer around the film missions. Space travel gives the game a different rhythm from a linear level list: you can move between destinations, take on optional activities and return to areas with a more suitable character.

Kyber Bricks unlock features and improve abilities across these classes. The system gives exploration a practical purpose: collecting bricks is tied to making classes more capable, rather than being only a completionist checklist. Official material confirms the classes and Kyber Brick progression, but does not provide a standardized difficulty curve or independent test of how much each upgrade changes play.
Combat and co-op
Lightsaber combat, blaster use and class abilities distinguish this entry from LEGO games built around one dominant tool, such as a wand or a police disguise. The platform listings support local co-op, making it suitable for two people sharing a console or PC session. Co-op behavior, control options and performance can vary by platform, so check the edition listing for the hardware you own before buying.

LEGO City Undercover: the strongest open-city choice
LEGO City Undercover uses an original setting rather than adapting an existing film series. WB Games describes an open-world metropolis with more than 20 districts, vehicles, hundreds of collectibles and a two-player co-op mode. You play police officer Chase McCain in an original crime story presented with LEGO comedy.

Its world is concentrated in one city. That makes the exploration experience easier to understand than the Skywalker Saga’s collection of planets: districts, streets, vehicles and city landmarks are all part of one continuous urban setting. If your priority is driving around, revisiting districts and collecting items in a single large map, City Undercover is the more direct fit.
The trade-off is franchise coverage. There are no Star Wars films, lightsaber classes or galaxy-spanning destinations. City Undercover is the better answer to “Which LEGO game has an original open city?” but not to “Which one contains the most Star Wars content?”
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: original Marvel story and power variety
The official Steam listing calls LEGO Marvel Super Heroes “an original story crossing the entire Marvel Universe.” That means the game is not a scene-by-scene adaptation of one Marvel movie. It builds its own plot around a broad set of Marvel characters and their powers.
Marvel Super Heroes also lists shared and split-screen co-op. Its appeal is the contrast between abilities: different heroes approach traversal, combat and puzzles in different ways. Choose it when you want to experiment with a superhero roster and play through a self-contained story, especially if reproducing specific film scenes is less important than having an original Marvel narrative.
Do not treat its “Marvel Universe” wording as a larger world than the Skywalker Saga’s more than 20 planets. The two games organize space differently: Marvel emphasizes an original superhero adventure, while Skywalker Saga explicitly offers nine film episodes, planetary destinations and space travel.

LEGO Harry Potter Collection: a two-game magical compilation
The official LEGO description says the Harry Potter Collection covers seven books and eight films. It combines a school-centered adventure with spell-casting, potion-making, puzzle-solving, lessons and dueling.
This is a good match if your preferred LEGO mechanics are learning spells, brewing potions and solving puzzles with magical abilities. The collection format also makes it different from Skywalker Saga’s single game covering three trilogies: Harry Potter is presented as a compilation of two LEGO games spanning the complete seven-book, eight-film story.
Choose it for the wizarding setting and its school-and-lesson structure, not because the available evidence establishes a larger explorable world, more playable characters or better performance than Skywalker Saga. Those comparisons are not documented by the official descriptions.
Which game is best for each kind of buyer?
For the biggest licensed franchise package
Pick LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. It is the only option here explicitly combining all nine core-saga films, more than 300 playable characters, more than 20 unlockable planets, space travel and nine upgradeable character classes. The breadth is its main reason to buy.
For open-world exploration
Pick LEGO City Undercover if “open world” means a single, continuous city with districts, vehicles and collectibles. Pick Skywalker Saga if you would rather explore multiple planets and travel through space between film-based activities. These are different forms of exploration, so decide whether you prefer urban continuity or a multi-planet anthology.
For an original story
Choose LEGO City Undercover for an original police story or LEGO Marvel Super Heroes for an original story crossing Marvel characters. Skywalker Saga retells the nine-film Star Wars arc, and Harry Potter Collection follows the established seven-book, eight-film narrative.

Skywalker Saga and City Undercover both have official descriptions that support local or two-player co-op, and Marvel Super Heroes lists shared/split-screen co-op. Their themes differ: Star Wars uses lightsabers, blasters and class upgrades; City Undercover uses police comedy and vehicles; Marvel uses superhero powers. Select the one whose tone and controls match the players’ interests.
The supplied official description for Harry Potter Collection emphasizes spells, potions, lessons, puzzles and dueling but does not establish a co-op specification in the same materials. Check the exact platform listing if shared play is a deciding requirement.
For a player who already owns LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Skywalker Saga is worthwhile when you want the sequel-era films, a modernized class-and-upgrade system, planetary exploration and space travel in addition to revisiting the original trilogy and prequels. The Complete Saga and Skywalker Saga overlap in their Star Wars film coverage, but Skywalker Saga’s official feature set is broader in scope and structure.
It is not an automatic replacement if your only goal is replaying familiar levels. The sensible upgrade question is whether the new systems and all-nine-film package matter to you. No evidence here supports a claim about visual quality, frame rate, loading times or the exact amount of reused content, so base the decision on the documented scope rather than an assumed technical leap.

Official listings place Skywalker Saga on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC. That broad coverage lets most households match the game to hardware they already own, but an Xbox One listing is not the same product as an Xbox Series X|S listing, and the same distinction applies to PlayStation generations.

Standard and Deluxe Edition language
LEGO’s announcement documented a Deluxe Edition and said physical retail versions included an exclusive Luke Skywalker with Blue Milk minifigure. Treat that as an edition-specific historical offer, not a guarantee that every current listing includes the minifigure. Read the live product description for your region before paying extra for a bundle or assuming a physical bonus is present.
Search terms that avoid the wrong product
The clearest product phrase is “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.” Add the platform when necessary, such as “PS5,” “Xbox Series X|S,” “Nintendo Switch” or “PC.” This reduces the chance of selecting an older Star Wars LEGO title, a different generation’s package or an accessory instead of the game.
- Confirm the exact title includes “The Skywalker Saga.”
- Choose the platform you actually use.
- Read whether the listing is physical or digital.
- Check whether it says Standard or Deluxe Edition and what contents are included.
- Verify the seller’s region, language and return terms before completing the order.
What the official claims do—and do not—tell you
More than 300 characters, more than 20 planets and all nine films are useful measures of content scope, but they do not measure quality on their own. A larger roster does not mean every character plays differently; more planets do not establish how dense each location is; and a nine-film campaign does not provide a verified completion time.
