Choose the LEGO Atari 2600 10306 if its cartridges, joystick, game scenes, and hidden 1980s room appeal more—and you are willing to shop for a set LEGO now marks retired in the US and Ireland.

Both are adult display builds, not playable game hardware. LEGO’s piece counts and dimensions describe the sets; they do not establish building time, sturdiness, or which model offers better value. The PlayStation is smaller by LEGO’s stated measurements, while the Atari is larger in all three dimensions.

Choose by the nostalgia you want on display
Pick the PlayStation for Sony-era gaming references
The PlayStation set centers on the original console and its controller, with hidden buildable scenes inspired by Gran Turismo and Ape Escape. Its scale and details make it the better fit if those references are the reason you want a LEGO console model. LEGO describes the Open and Power buttons as functional, and the controller plugs into the console. See LEGO’s PlayStation set announcement for its specifications and announced sales terms.
Pick the Atari for cartridges, joystick, and a room scene
The Atari build offers a broader set of period details: a joystick, cartridges for Asteroids, Adventure, and Centipede, three game-themed scenes, and a hidden room representing the 1980s. LEGO says the front switches function. The LEGO Group named Chris McVeigh as the set’s designer; in its 19 July 2022 announcement, McVeigh recalled receiving an Atari 2600 as a child and spending hours playing arcade games at home. That is the designer’s personal recollection, not evidence about buyers generally. Read the LEGO Atari 2600 announcement for the original set details.

Consider shelf space and build size
LEGO lists the PlayStation at over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide, and 19 cm deep; the Atari is over 8 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 22 cm deep. Measure the space you plan to use, especially for the Atari’s greater width and depth. The PlayStation has 1,911 pieces and the Atari 2,532, but piece count alone is not a reliable estimate of build hours or build quality.
What availability and price mean for your decision
PlayStation: use the announced RRP as a reference
LEGO announced general purchase for 4 October 2026 through LEGO.com, LEGO Stores, and select retailers. Its announcement listed regional RRPs of £139.99, €159.99, and $179.99. Check the relevant local retailer for current stock and price; the announcement’s RRP is not a guarantee of availability or a price in every market. The LEGO announcement is the source for those launch terms.
Atari: treat the official listing price as historical context, not resale guidance
LEGO’s 2022 announcement gave the Atari’s original RRP as $239.99 in the US and €239.99 in Europe. On 7 October 2026, LEGO’s US product page displayed $239.99 but marked the set retired; the Ireland page also marked it retired. That displayed figure is not a current secondhand-market quote. Compare the actual seller, condition, included parts, and asking price before buying. LEGO’s US Atari product page and Ireland Atari product page show the regional listing status reviewed on that date; third-party stock and prices can change.

Which one should you buy?
- Buy the PlayStation 72306 if your priority is the original PlayStation, its game references, a more compact display footprint, and a newly announced retail release.
- Buy the Atari 2600 10306 if you value Atari’s cartridges, joystick, three game scenes, and hidden room more than a smaller footprint—and are comfortable checking listings for a retired set.
- If you are undecided, start with the shelf and the games: measure your available space, then choose the console whose included details you actually want to display. Do not use piece count as a substitute for build time or value.
