LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 18, 2026, and Nintendo Australia lists it as out now as of October 3, 2026. It is a story-led, open-world Batman action-adventure with local two-player co-op, but no online co-op. Official listings describe the features and editions; they do not establish Switch 2 performance or how the game feels to play, so those are reasons to wait for hands-on reviews if they are central to your buying decision.
What kind of game is it?
Developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Games, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight follows Bruce Wayne from his origins through training with the League of Shadows and into his role as Gotham’s hero. The story brings together characters from across Batman film, television, comics, and games. Officially named characters include Jim Gordon, Catwoman, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Talia al Ghul, alongside villains such as the Joker, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Bane, and Ra’s al Ghul. DC describes it as a story-led, open-world action-adventure.

The advertised structure mixes Gotham exploration with combat, gadgets, vehicles, challenges, puzzles, secrets, and collectibles. Warner Bros. names locations including Ace Chemicals, Gotham Botanical Gardens, Wayne Tower, and Arkham Asylum. The feature list is a useful guide to the game’s scope, not evidence of how varied or satisfying those activities are in practice.
Combat, gadgets, and difficulty
Official descriptions list combos, stealth, takedowns, and gadgets. The publisher’s FAQ names Batarangs and the Batclaw, as well as character-specific equipment such as Gordon’s Foam Sprayer, Robin’s Cable Launcher, and Catwoman’s whip. DC also says a Dark Knight difficulty setting offers a tougher challenge, but the official descriptions do not explain its exact tuning.

Vehicles and customization
Warner Bros. advertises over 20 vehicles, including Batmobiles and Batcycles, and 100 character outfits in the Standard Edition. Its FAQ also lists over 250 Batcave items and trophies; Nintendo Australia’s product page calls these 250+ Batcave props and trophies. These are publisher and store counts, not a measure of how much meaningful variety or playtime they add.
Switch 2 release, modes, and storage
Warner Bros. Games announced a worldwide Switch 2 release for September 18, 2026. Nintendo Australia now marks the game “Out now,” while Nintendo UK lists the same release date. Availability and price can differ by region, so check the eShop where you buy.

Nintendo Australia’s listing supports TV, tabletop, and handheld play and says the game uses 23.6 GB. Nintendo UK’s listing gives 23.7 GB. The pages do not explain the small difference, so check your regional listing and make sure your console has enough available storage before downloading. The official listings do not give resolution, frame rate, load times, battery use, or comparative performance figures; those cannot be inferred from the download size or mode support.
Is there local or online co-op?
Yes to local co-op: Warner Bros. says the game supports solo play or two-player local co-op. Online co-op is unavailable, so friends need to play together locally rather than connect over the internet. Nintendo Australia likewise lists local play for one to two players.

Standard versus Deluxe Edition
Warner Bros. lists two editions. Standard contains the base game and its advertised campaign and customization content; Deluxe adds two DLC collections. The announced prices below are from Warner Bros. Games’ June 3, 2026 release announcement, not a guarantee of today’s local eShop price.

Nintendo UK’s description says the Legacy Collection includes Arkham Trilogy, Batman Beyond, and Party Music packs. Its Mayhem Collection description includes a story mission, Mayhem Mode featuring Joker and Harley Quinn, and the Sinister Pack. Check the current listing in your region to confirm precisely what is included before purchasing.

Physical and preorder promotions
Warner Bros. Games’ June 3 announcement said the physical Switch 2 Deluxe Edition would include a LEGO Retro Video Game Batman minifigure while supplies lasted. The announcement also said Switch 2 preorders would receive the Dark Knight Returns Batsuit in-game. Both are announcement-era promotion terms: current stock and eligibility are not established, so confirm them with the retailer before buying.

Internet, subscriptions, and microtransactions
Warner Bros. says an internet connection is not required to play, though it is needed to download updates. Its FAQ also says no PlayStation Plus, Xbox Game Pass Core, or Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required to play on console. Nintendo Australia notes that Save Data Cloud use requires Nintendo Switch Online; that optional backup feature is separate from playing the game itself.
Warner Bros. says the game has no real-money microtransactions. That is distinct from the separately sold Deluxe DLC and the optional physical LEGO sets that unlock digital items.
Is it worth buying on Switch 2?
The official information makes the Switch 2 edition a clear fit for players who want a Batman story with Gotham exploration, a large cast, vehicles and collectibles, and the option of local two-player play. Standard versus Deluxe is principally a choice about whether the included Legacy and Mayhem DLC collections are worth the announcement-era price difference at the current price in your region.
