For most Android users, the Ledger Nano X hardware wallet is the easiest all-round choice: it connects by USB-C or Bluetooth, and Ledger’s current product page lists Android 10 or later. Choose the Ledger Nano S Plus if you prefer a simpler, cable-only setup for Android and desktop. The Ledger Flex and Ledger Stax are premium choices when a large touchscreen, NFC or wireless charging matters more than price and portability.
All four models keep signing keys on the hardware device. The practical difference is how you connect, how much transaction information you can read on-screen, whether you need a battery, and which assets or networks you plan to use.

Which Ledger should an Android user buy?
Use this short decision rule before comparing specifications:
Recommended Free Tools
- Choose Nano X if you use your phone frequently, want wireless pairing, or may also use an iPhone later. It supports USB-C and Bluetooth with Android 10 or later listed on the current store specification.
- Choose Nano S Plus if you are comfortable carrying a USB-C data cable, mostly use one Android phone or a computer, and do not need iOS support or Bluetooth.
- Choose Flex if reviewing addresses and transaction details on a larger touchscreen is worth paying for a premium model, and you want USB-C, Bluetooth and NFC.
- Choose Stax if you want the largest-screen experience among these models plus NFC and Qi wireless charging, and you accept premium pricing and availability that can vary by region.
Nano X and Nano S Plus provide the same core offline key protection and support Clear Signing. Their small monochrome displays can show transaction details, but a complex transaction may require more scrolling than on Flex or Stax.

Android compatibility, connection and operating-system support
Ledger Nano X
Nano X can communicate with an Android phone in two ways:
- USB-C: use a compatible data cable for a direct wired connection.
- Bluetooth: pair it in the Ledger Wallet Android app for wireless use.
The current Nano X specification lists Android 10 or later. Bluetooth is useful when the phone is your main wallet interface, but it introduces a rechargeable battery and another connection to manage. You can fall back to USB-C when wireless pairing is inconvenient.
Ledger Nano S Plus
Nano S Plus uses a USB-C cable. It works with Android and desktop computers but does not support iOS. This is the straightforward option for people who do not mind a cable and want fewer wireless components. The cable must carry data; a charge-only cable will not establish the wallet connection.
Ledger Flex
Flex adds a larger touchscreen to the USB-C and Bluetooth connections and includes NFC. The larger display makes addresses, amounts and Clear Signing prompts easier to inspect than on the classic Nano screens. It is aimed at buyers who value readability and premium interaction rather than the smallest device.
Ledger Stax
Stax combines USB-C, Bluetooth and NFC with Qi wireless charging and a large touchscreen. It targets users who want a desk-friendly, highly readable device and are willing to verify current regional pricing and stock before ordering.
Model comparison for Android buyers
| Model | Android connection | Other platform support | Screen and interaction | Best fit | Main trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ledger Nano X | USB-C or Bluetooth; Android 10+ listed | Can also be used with iPhone | Small monochrome screen; button-based navigation | Frequent phone users who want wireless convenience | Requires managing a battery and Bluetooth; limited space for complex transaction review |
| Ledger Nano S Plus | USB-C cable | Android and desktop; no iOS support | Small monochrome screen; button-based navigation | Cost-conscious or stationary Android and desktop users | No Bluetooth; cable required for every session |
| Ledger Flex | USB-C, Bluetooth and NFC | Verify current platform support before purchase | Larger touchscreen | Users prioritising readable transaction review and NFC | Premium model; price and availability can change |
| Ledger Stax | USB-C, Bluetooth and NFC; Qi wireless charging | Verify current platform support before purchase | Large touchscreen; wireless charging | Users who want a premium, desk-oriented experience | Premium model; price and availability can change |
The table compares connection and design, not the exact coins you can use. Asset support is network-specific and can change independently of the hardware model.
Pick by how you actually use Android
You transact mainly from a phone
Nano X is the least disruptive choice because Bluetooth lets the phone and signer communicate without a cable. Keep the USB-C option available as a fallback and remember that wireless convenience does not remove the need to approve every detail on the physical device.

- This is what security feels like: Ledger touchscreen signers all come with a private, offline, PIN-protected backup, Ledger Recovery Key, to never lose access to your assets.
You keep the wallet at a desk
Nano S Plus is usually sufficient when the signer stays near a computer or charging station. A wired workflow removes Bluetooth pairing from the routine and avoids depending on a rechargeable battery. It is also the lower-complexity choice for someone who never intends to use iOS.
You have difficulty reading small screens
Flex or Stax can make address and transaction review more comfortable because their touchscreens show more information at once. This is a usability benefit, not a different security model: the approval still happens on the hardware device, and you still need to check the destination and amount.
You need NFC or wireless charging
NFC is included on Flex and Stax, while Stax also supports Qi wireless charging. Do not pay for these features unless you have a specific workflow for them; Nano X and Nano S Plus retain the essential offline signing function without either feature.
What you need before setting up a Ledger on Android
- A genuine device: purchase from Ledger or an authorised seller. Inspect packaging and the device during initialisation; do not accept a wallet that arrives already configured with a recovery phrase.
- The official Ledger Wallet Android app: install it from an official Ledger source, not a link sent by a stranger or a search advertisement.
- A USB-C data cable: Nano S Plus always needs one, and Nano X needs one for wired use. A spare is useful only when it is confirmed data-capable and compatible with the device.
- Recovery sheets or an approved offline backup: write the recovery words during initialisation and keep them offline. Never photograph, email, cloud-sync, copy, paste or type them into a phone, browser, website or support form.
- Your exact asset and network plan: identify the coin, chain and transaction features you need before buying. Some networks require a separate, official third-party wallet even when the Ledger device protects the keys.
- Updated software: update Android, the Ledger app and device firmware through official channels before creating accounts or moving funds.
Android setup: a safe, repeatable sequence
- Prepare the phone. Update Android and install the official Ledger Wallet app. Confirm that the phone meets the model’s listed requirements; Nano X’s current specification lists Android 10 or later.
- Inspect and initialise the signer. Turn on the device and follow the prompts on its own screen to create a new wallet. If the device displays a pre-existing recovery phrase, stop and contact official support rather than using it.
- Write the recovery words offline. Record each word in order on the supplied sheets or another approved offline backup. Check the spelling and sequence on the device. The words are the master backup for the wallet: anyone who obtains them can control the assets.
- Connect the hardware. Pair Nano X by Bluetooth in the app or connect it with USB-C. Connect Nano S Plus by USB-C. For Flex and Stax, choose USB-C or Bluetooth according to your workflow.
- Set and protect the device PIN. Choose a PIN you can remember without writing it beside the recovery backup. Never disclose it to a person claiming to be support.
- Install only the applications you need. Add the required coin applications through the official app. Storage is finite, so remove an application only when you understand that removing an app does not remove the accounts or keys protected by the device.
- Add the correct account. Select the exact network and account type. If the official app directs you to an external wallet for that network, obtain that wallet from its official website and verify that it supports Ledger signing.
- Verify the receiving address on the device. When an account is created or a deposit address is displayed, compare the address shown on the phone with the address shown on the Ledger screen. Trust the hardware display, not just the phone.
- Make a small test transaction. Send a modest amount first, wait for the expected network confirmation, and only then consider moving a larger balance.
- Separate the backup from the device. Store the recovery words in a secure offline location that is not carried with the signer. A thief should not obtain both items at once.
How the security model works
What Bluetooth does and does not carry
Ledger’s Bluetooth explanation states: “Only public data is transported by Bluetooth; critical data (such as private keys and seed) never leave the device.” In practical terms, the phone can request an address or present a transaction, but the private keys remain inside the Secure Element and are used on the signer to approve a signature.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11That design limits the damage from a compromised phone, but it does not make the phone trustworthy. Malware could replace a destination address or alter an amount in the transaction shown on the phone. The hardware display is the final check: reject anything that does not exactly match the payment you intend to make.
Clear Signing and small screens
Nano X and Nano S Plus support Clear Signing, allowing transaction details to be shown for confirmation on the device. Their classic OLED screens are small, so a complex transaction may not fit on one view. Scroll deliberately and verify the fields the device presents; never approve simply because the app says the transaction is ready.
The recovery phrase is the ultimate secret
The signer protects keys while it is functioning, but the recovery words can recreate the wallet on a replacement device. Treat them as more sensitive than a password. No legitimate setup, firmware update or support conversation requires you to enter them into a phone, browser, QR-code scanner or online form. If anyone asks, stop.

Asset and network compatibility: check before ordering
Hardware compatibility is not the same as having a one-click account in the Android app. Ledger’s supported-assets guidance says the list “is not exhaustive and subject to change.” A coin may be supported only on a particular network, may need a separate wallet interface, or may lack a transaction feature you expect.
The current Nano X product specification lists support for 500+ crypto assets through the Ledger Wallet app. The current Nano S Plus specification lists 15,000+ supported crypto assets. These figures are product-page counts accessed on October 16, 2026, and they are not directly comparable promises that every asset is available in the same app or on every network.
Before purchase, write down:
- the exact asset name and network, including whether it is a token on another chain;
- the account format and address type required by that network;
- whether Ledger Wallet supports the account directly;
- the official third-party wallet required if it does not; and
- the transaction features you need, such as staking, smart-contract approvals or alternate signing modes.
Check the live supported-assets directory immediately before ordering and again before transferring funds. Availability can change after you buy the hardware.
Battery, cable and display trade-offs
Nano X: convenience with another maintenance task
Bluetooth makes Nano X practical for phone-first use, but wireless operation depends on keeping its battery charged and maintaining a reliable pairing. USB-C remains available when the battery is low or wireless troubleshooting takes longer than connecting a cable.
Nano S Plus: fewer components to manage
Nano S Plus has no wireless connection path, so the operating routine is deliberately simple: connect a data cable, unlock the signer and approve on its screen. The trade-off is that the cable becomes a required accessory and iOS is not supported.

The touchscreens on Flex and Stax reduce the amount of scrolling needed to inspect a long address or complex transaction. Stax’s Qi charging is convenient for a desk setup. Neither feature changes the need to authenticate on the device or protect the recovery words.

Buy through Ledger or an authorised retailer and confirm the seller, return terms and current model availability for your country. Prices, bundles, taxes and delivery dates are regional and can change, so a past listing is not a reliable current price. Do not choose a used device merely because it is cheaper; the security question is whether you can initialise it yourself and create a fresh recovery backup.

A USB-C cable is a legitimate accessory only when it is data-capable and fits both the phone and signer. Keep the cable separate from the recovery backup, and label it so that you do not accidentally substitute a charge-only lead during an urgent transaction.
Common Android problems and safe fixes
The phone does not detect the signer
- Confirm that the app is the official Ledger Wallet app and that Android is updated.
- For a wired connection, try a known data-capable USB-C cable and reconnect firmly.
- Unlock the signer and phone, close other wallet applications, then reopen the Ledger app.
- For Nano X Bluetooth, remove the old pairing in the app and pair again rather than accepting an unsolicited system prompt.
- If detection still fails, stop before entering the recovery words anywhere and use official support.
The app says an asset is unsupported
Check the network, not just the ticker symbol. Confirm the live supported-assets directory and whether an official third-party wallet is required. Do not send funds to an address generated for a different network.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
The address on the phone differs from the Ledger display
Reject the transaction or address immediately. A mismatch can indicate malware, a wrong account or a wrong network. Recreate the address from the verified account and test with a small amount only after the device and app show the same value.
A transaction is stuck or shows the wrong fee
Do not approve a replacement transaction until you understand the network status and fee rules. Review the complete transaction on the hardware screen, confirm the destination and amount, and use the network’s official guidance or wallet support for replacement-transaction procedures.
You lost the phone or the signer
The phone is not the recovery backup. A replacement signer can be restored only through its own on-device recovery flow using the offline words. If the words may have been exposed, treat the wallet as compromised and follow official recovery guidance; never test the words in a website or app.
A practical buying checklist
- Do you require Bluetooth? If yes, choose Nano X, Flex or Stax; if no, Nano S Plus may be enough.
- Do you need iPhone support later? Exclude Nano S Plus and verify the current support statement for the model you choose.
- Will you review complex transactions often? Prefer Flex or Stax for their larger touchscreens.
- Are NFC or Qi charging essential to your workflow? These features point to Flex or Stax, with Qi charging specifically on Stax.
- Is your coin and network confirmed in the live directory? If not, delay the purchase until the exact support path is clear.
- Can you keep the recovery words offline and separate? If not, do not initialise the wallet yet.
- Can you buy from an authorised source and verify current regional availability? If not, wait rather than risk a tampered or unsupported device.
For a phone-first Android setup, Nano X is the balanced recommendation. For a wired Android-and-desktop routine, Nano S Plus avoids wireless complexity. Flex and Stax make sense when screen readability and premium connectivity are the deciding requirements, not simply because they are newer.
