Leaked HomePad Setup Screens Point to an iCloud Photos “Photo Face”

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Leaked setup screens reportedly show Apple’s unannounced home device—often called “HomePad” in rumor coverage—offering a Photo Face that pairs selected photos with a clock. The reported setup requires iCloud Photos and can transfer a small set of full-resolution images from an iPhone first, with the rest of the library downloading from iCloud. Apple has not announced the device or confirmed the feature, so these are claims about leaked software, not final product specifications.

What is Photo Face?

Photo Face is the name given in reports to a screen layout that displays personal photos alongside a large clock. The details come from setup screenshots attributed to code researcher pdfu; they do not show a finished retail device or the complete final interface. In a post reproduced by 9to5Mac, pdfu described the setup step as “creating a Photo Face.” (9to5Mac, October 1, 2026)

The reports say setup may be handled through the Home app. The software shown in the leak reportedly uses the generic label “Apple device”; the explanation that this is a fallback name comes from pdfu, not Apple. (The Apple Post, October 2, 2026)

What photos could it show?

Coverage of the screens describes several possible sources and selection methods. Reported sources include Photos, Memories and Shared Albums. Options may include shuffling pictures of particular people, pets or places; choosing a collection; using Featured Photos; or selecting images manually. The reports also describe the resulting display as combining the chosen pictures with a clock. (The Apple Post, October 2, 2026; iClarified, September 30, 2026)

Those choices are reported setup options, not a confirmed list of controls. The leak does not establish how often images rotate, how the clock can be customized, or whether every option will appear in a released product.

Does Photo Face require iCloud Photos?

Yes, according to reports about the leaked setup flow: iCloud Photos must be enabled. 9to5Mac and MacRumors both describe it as a requirement, but Apple has not confirmed the feature or explained what iCloud Photos configuration would qualify. How would photos get onto the device?

The reported first-use flow sends several full-resolution photos from an iPhone so the display can show images promptly, while the rest of the photo library downloads from iCloud. (9to5Mac, October 1, 2026; The Apple Post, October 2, 2026)

The leak does not specify how many photos transfer initially, the transfer method, how long either stage takes, or what storage and network conditions are needed. It also does not establish privacy details or whether photos remain available if iCloud Photos is later disabled.

Is HomePad an announced Apple product?

No. The cited coverage describes HomePad as an unreleased, unannounced Apple device, and Apple has not confirmed either the product or Photo Face. iClarified notes that the screenshots show setup choices rather than the final home-hub interface. (iClarified, September 30, 2026)

Some reporting has speculated about an October 13, 2026 announcement and a display roughly six inches across, but those details remain rumors, not confirmed timing or hardware specifications. The final name, design, screen size, price, release date, regional availability and feature behavior are unresolved. (MacRumors, September 30, 2026; iClarified, September 30, 2026)

How it differs from a typical digital photo frame

The leaked concept sounds like a personal photo display with a clock, so “digital photo frame” is a useful category for comparison. But the screens do not establish the final HomePad screen dimensions, placement, album compatibility, customization, price or whether it would work as a standalone frame. Nor do they establish compatibility with any existing frame. Until Apple announces a product, the leak is not enough to make a product-to-product comparison or buying recommendation.

Is this the same Photo Face rumored for iPhone StandBy?

pdfu reportedly says the HomePad setup uses the same Photo Face being developed for iPhone Duo StandBy. That connection is also based on the leak and has not been confirmed by Apple. (9to5Mac, October 1, 2026)
