As of October 4, 2026, there is no confirmed release date or window, platform list, gameplay footage, or system requirements for the League of Legends MMO. Riot has said the project remains in development, but it reset the game’s direction in 2024 and warned that updates might be absent for several years.
When will the League of Legends MMO come out?
Riot has not announced a release date or launch window. In September 2026, Riot co-founder and co-chair Marc Merrill discussed the MMO in an interview at PAX West, but did not give a date, according to GamesRadar’s report. Treat specific years and dates circulating elsewhere as speculation unless Riot confirms them.

What platforms will the League MMO be on?
Riot has not announced that yet. No PC, console, or mobile platforms have been confirmed, and there are no published system requirements. The platforms supported by the existing League of Legends game do not establish which devices this separate MMO will support.

Riot said it was still working on the game when it announced a project reset in March 2024. In a statement attributed to Riot product lead Marc Merrill, the company said the original direction “just wasn’t different enough from what you can play today.” The statement is reproduced in a community post.

Later public comments have signaled continuing ambition, not a timetable. GamesRadar reported in September 2026 that Merrill called the MMO “the Grail” internally and described its future as “incredibly bright.” Those remarks do not amount to a launch commitment.
Why did Riot reset the MMO?
Riot said the initial vision was not distinct enough from existing games, so it reset the project’s direction rather than continue with that version. Merrill described the goal at a high level: Riot wanted a significant evolution of the MMO genre, not an existing MMO with a Runeterra-themed layer. The March 2024 statement does not disclose the replacement design.

No cancellation is established by the cited statements. In March 2024, Merrill said the reset would mean “going dark” for a long time, “likely several years,” so the team could focus on the work. That warning makes a quiet stretch consistent with what Riot said to expect; silence alone does not prove either cancellation or continued progress. For a meaningful status change, look for a direct Riot announcement.

What should players watch for next?
A useful announcement would confirm the basics that remain open: a release window, supported platforms, gameplay, and whether the game will launch in particular regions or offer a beta. Until Riot publishes those details, third-party estimates and assumptions based on other Riot games should not be treated as confirmed information. For background on Riot’s broader games plans, see its January 2024 company update; it does not announce MMO timing or platforms.
