The available game descriptions confirm that heroes have distinct abilities, that you choose a squad and a strategic formation, and that battles can run automatically; they do not publish a universal “best team,” fixed tank/healer/damage labels, exact grid bonuses, or mode-by-mode placements. Use the framework below to make evidence-based decisions without treating generic RPG conventions as confirmed game rules.
What is confirmed about team building
League of Grimm: Idle RPG is a role-playing game by Dreamer 3. Its Google Play event description presents summoning and collecting heroes, with each character bringing “unique skills, dark lore, and powerful abilities.” You can read the event listing at Google Play.

An overview from Pocket Gamer describes the practical loop: summon fairy-tale characters, select a squad lineup, choose a strategic formation based on the heroes’ skills and builds, and let battles run automatically. It also mentions idle rewards and additional modes that open as you progress. The article is available at Pocket Gamer.

Those facts support a skill-and-build-led method, not a permanent tier list. The published material does not establish the exact formation grid, what each position does, an official role taxonomy, faction bonuses, roster size, squad capacity, skill values, or a current version number. Any recommendation that names a “best” five, assigns a hero to a confirmed tank or healer slot, or promises a faction counter would go beyond the documented information.

Use functional roles without assuming official labels
You still need a way to reason about a team. Treat “front line,” “damage,” “control,” “support,” and similar terms as temporary descriptions of what a hero’s current build and skills accomplish in your squad—not as confirmed in-game classes. A hero may perform more than one job, and that job can change after upgrades, equipment changes, or a different formation.
Survival function
Ask which hero, skill, or build helps the squad remain active long enough to finish an auto-battle. Look for wording that indicates protection, damage reduction, healing, shielding, evasion, crowd control, interruption, or recovery. Do not assume that the hero with the highest health is automatically intended for a front position; confirm what the in-game description says and observe who is targeted there.
Damage function
Identify the abilities that actually end fights: high single-target damage, area damage, damage over time, execute effects, or attacks that become stronger under a stated condition. Record whether the skill needs time to charge, a particular target, a debuff already present, or a specific build.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsControl and disruption function
Some kits may restrict an opponent, alter turn or action timing, interrupt an ability, reduce a statistic, or force a target choice. These effects are valuable only when they connect often enough and last long enough to matter. If the description does not state a duration, chance, or target rule, mark that detail as unverified rather than filling it in from another game.
Enabling function
A hero can improve the rest of the squad by increasing output, restoring resources, applying a condition that another skill exploits, cleansing a harmful effect, or changing how a formation works. The important question is not whether the hero is called a “support,” but whether the enabling effect produces a measurable improvement in your actual battles.
Flexible or hybrid function
Many useful lineups contain a hybrid: a hero that deals damage while applying control, or one that protects allies while adding a secondary attack. Hybrids are especially helpful when your roster is small, but they can also create fragile teams if each job is only partially covered. Write down the primary job and the secondary job so you know what is lost if the hero is removed.
A repeatable squad-building process
1. Inventory the heroes you can field now
Begin with the available roster, not an imagined future summon. For every candidate, copy the exact skill names and descriptions from the current game client. Record the build or equipment choices that materially change those skills. A simple worksheet should include:
- Hero name and current upgrade state.
- Every skill’s target, trigger, condition, and stated effect.
- Build choices that alter damage, durability, speed, resource use, or utility.
- The functional job the hero appears to perform in your present roster.
- What the hero needs from teammates to work reliably.
- What the hero provides that no other available candidate provides as well.
This prevents a common mistake: selecting a character because of rarity, appearance, or a remembered recommendation while overlooking a lower-investment hero whose skill wording fits the stage better.

2. Define the fight you are trying to solve
Before changing six variables at once, describe the failure. Are you losing immediately, timing out, failing to remove one dangerous enemy, or surviving while your damage stalls? Note whether the problem appears in a campaign stage, an unlocked side mode, or an idle-reward checkpoint. Pocket Gamer says that more modes become available with progression, but the published overview does not provide a separate optimal team for each mode. Your own battle result is therefore the relevant evidence.
3. Choose a minimum set of jobs
Build around the jobs your skills actually cover. A practical first pass is to include:
- At least one dependable way to keep the squad functioning when damage arrives.
- One or more sources of damage that match the enemy pattern.
- Any control, cleansing, buffing, debuffing, or resource effect that directly addresses the failure.
- A backup plan if the main damage source is disabled or dies early.
These are evaluation categories, not a statement that the game officially uses tank, healer, or damage-dealer classes. If your available heroes do not cover a category, do not force a label; instead, compensate with positioning, a different build, or a simpler lineup that performs one job consistently.
4. Check skill dependencies
Read each candidate alongside the rest of the proposed squad. Look for explicit relationships such as “against marked targets,” “after an ally is hit,” “when health is low,” or “on defeating an enemy.” A dependency is useful only if another member can create its condition at the required frequency. If the condition cannot be met in the stage you are testing, the skill’s theoretical strength is irrelevant.
5. Set a formation hypothesis
Because the exact grid and position effects are not documented publicly, treat formation as an experiment. Place the hero whose survival or targeting is most important where the current game interface and battle result suggest they are safest. Place heroes with short-range or target-specific skills where their descriptions and observed targeting make sense. Write down the hypothesis before starting so you can tell whether the change helped.
6. Test one change at a time
Auto-battle makes controlled testing possible. Keep the lineup and builds fixed while trying two positions. Then keep the formation fixed while swapping one hero. Compare the point at which the team fails, the first hero lost, the number of enemy waves cleared, and whether the key skill condition occurred. If you change formation, equipment, and three heroes together, you will not know which change caused the result.
7. Keep the better result, not the more impressive description
Choose the configuration that advances reliably with your current resources. A spectacular damage number is less useful than a team that survives the entire auto-battle. Record the winning arrangement and the reason it worked, then revisit it when a new hero, build, or mode changes the conditions.
How to evaluate synergy
Condition-to-payoff synergy
The clearest synergy is a complete chain: one skill creates a condition and another gains a stated benefit from it. For example, if a current description says one hero marks a target and another deals extra damage to marked targets, that pairing has a testable connection. If the descriptions merely look thematically related, treat the pairing as unconfirmed until the battle shows a benefit.

- [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by
Timing synergy
Two powerful skills can still conflict if they activate at the wrong time. Compare when each effect starts, how long it lasts, and whether the auto-battle system allows the second effect to benefit from the first. A short-lived vulnerability effect is valuable only if your damage skill fires during that window. If timing is not stated in the description, observe several runs rather than assuming a sequence.
Target synergy
Check whether the abilities select the same kind of target. Single-target attacks can focus down a priority enemy, while area effects may be better when several enemies remain. A support effect aimed at the lowest-health ally will behave differently from one aimed at the front position. Do not infer target rules from a hero’s artwork; use the text and battle behavior.
Redundancy and resilience
Some overlap is healthy. If one effect is the only reason the squad survives, losing that hero can end the run instantly. A second, weaker source of protection, control, or damage may improve consistency even if it lowers the theoretical maximum. Compare a high-ceiling lineup with a redundant lineup across repeated auto-battles.

Build-to-skill synergy
A build is good when it strengthens the skill the hero is actually using in your lineup. A damage-oriented build may be wasteful on a hero whose important contribution is a control effect, while a defensive build may be valuable if that hero must survive to cast a late ability. Test the complete build, not just the hero’s headline statistic.
Formation: a safe way to learn the grid
Pocket Gamer confirms that the game asks players to select a strategic formation based on heroes’ skills and builds. It does not publish the grid dimensions or a verified bonus for any position. Consequently, avoid guides that present a universal front-row/back-row rule unless the current in-game interface itself states it.
Map observed behavior
Start a low-risk battle and note where each hero begins, who is attacked first, whether attacks have range restrictions, and whether a move changes a skill’s target. Repeat after moving only one hero. Your notes become a local map of the formation for your current build and mode.
Protect the condition that wins the fight
If a hero must survive to apply a mark, shield, control effect, or late damage skill, test positions that keep that hero active. If a hero’s ability explicitly targets a particular location or group, position the intended recipient where the game recognizes it. The correct placement is the one supported by the description and your results, not by a generic “put the tank in front” rule.
Separate survivability from output
Run two formation tests: one designed to keep the key enabler alive and one designed to maximize damage access. If the damage formation fails before the payoff occurs, its higher displayed output is not useful. If the defensive formation survives but cannot finish, add damage or control rather than endlessly moving the same heroes.

Re-test after roster changes
A new hero can alter targeting, skill timing, and which position is safest. Re-run your formation tests whenever you replace a core member, change a build that affects a skill, or enter a newly unlocked mode.
Adapting a team to progression and modes
Idle rewards let the game continue producing progress outside an active battle, while additional modes open as you advance, according to Pocket Gamer. That progression changes what “good” means: a lineup that clears a difficult manual test may be less useful if it cannot complete the repeated battles that generate your next upgrade.
For a stalled progression stage
- Identify the first failure point and the hero or enemy responsible.
- Read the relevant skills again, including conditions and target rules.
- Try a formation change without changing the roster.
- Swap one candidate whose job addresses the failure.
- Run multiple auto-battles and keep the configuration that advances consistently.
For a newly unlocked mode
Do not copy the campaign lineup automatically. First determine what the mode’s enemies and victory condition demand from the skills you own. If the mode rewards survival, a control or protection effect may matter more than peak damage. If it demands quick elimination, prioritize the damage chain that reaches its payoff soonest. These are decision rules, not claims about undocumented mode bonuses.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Practical test log
A short log turns auto-battle into useful evidence. For each run, record:
| Field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Stage or mode | The exact encounter being tested |
| Lineup | Every hero and current build |
| Formation | The position of each hero as shown in the game |
| Result | Clear, failure, timeout, or other in-game outcome |
| First failure | The first hero lost, enemy that remained, or skill condition that failed |
| Change made | Only the one variable changed from the prior run |
After several runs, look for a repeatable pattern rather than a single lucky result. If the game’s random behavior produces different outcomes, favor the setup with the stronger consistency for the goal you have set.
Common team-building mistakes
Copying a “best team” without current evidence
No current hero-by-hero ranking is established in the available sources. A named list can become obsolete after a build change or new content, and it may rely on a mode or version different from yours. Use a recommendation only when it includes the exact skill interaction and conditions you can verify in your client.

“Tank,” “healer,” and “DPS” are useful shorthand for observed jobs, but the published descriptions do not confirm them as official labels or guarantee that a position grants a conventional bonus. Describe what the skill does and what happened in your test.
Best Value
Changing too many variables
Replacing the lineup, formation, and builds simultaneously creates an uninformative result. Return to the one-change method and keep a log.
Ignoring the build attached to the skill
A hero’s value cannot be separated from the build you selected. Compare complete configurations and state which build produced the result.
Optimizing a screenshot instead of a clear
Large damage numbers, a rare summon, or a visually appealing formation do not prove that the squad is better. Measure the outcome that matters: consistent stage completion, survival to the payoff, or progress in the mode you are playing.

Assuming an old defect is still present
Pocket Gamer reported, during its early-access experience, that the tutorial sometimes requested absent icons and that the game crashed during one battle. That is an author’s older observation, not a verified statement about the current build. If you encounter similar behavior, update the game, restart it, and check current player-support or store information before redesigning your team around a suspected bug.
An illustrative lineup exercise
Suppose your roster contains four candidates: one whose description emphasizes protecting allies, one with a conditional single-target attack, one with an area effect, and one whose skill applies a debuff. This example does not identify actual League of Grimm heroes or claim that these effects exist on particular characters; it demonstrates the method.
- Write the exact condition on the single-target attack. If it gains power against a debuffed target, the debuff hero becomes an enabling candidate rather than an automatic “support.”
- Test the debuff before the attack in an auto-battle. If the sequence is unreliable, try a different build or formation and observe whether the condition is reached.
- Use the area effect when several enemies survive together, but compare it with the conditional attack when one priority enemy determines the result.
- Place the protection-focused hero where the battle keeps the enabler or damage source alive, then verify that observation in repeated runs.
- Keep the arrangement that clears the target encounter consistently. If the mode changes the enemy pattern, repeat the test rather than carrying over the conclusion.
When to replace a hero
Replace a member when the hero’s job does not address the failure, the required condition rarely occurs, the formation cannot keep the hero active long enough to contribute, or another available hero performs the same job more reliably with your current build. Do not replace a hero solely because a generic guide calls a different character stronger. The relevant comparison is the result produced by your roster, resources, and mode.
Before spending scarce upgrade materials, test the candidate at an equivalent investment where the game allows it, or compare the skill descriptions and expected conditions honestly. A theoretically stronger skill may require a trigger your current squad cannot provide.
Limits of published information
The public descriptions used for this guide establish the summon-and-collect loop, distinct hero skills, squad selection, strategic formation, auto-battle, idle rewards, and progression-based access to more modes. They do not establish:
- A verified roster count or squad capacity.
- The grid layout or a numerical effect for any formation position.
- Official tank, healer, damage, control, or support classifications.
- Faction rules, counters, set bonuses, or universal pairings.
- Skill values, cooldowns, probabilities, scaling, or mode-specific rankings.
- A current version number or a definitive best team.
Check the skill text and formation interface in your current installation whenever a decision depends on one of those details. If the game provides a tooltip, patch note, or in-client explanation, use that current wording over a generalized community assumption.
Quick decision checklist
- Have I copied the current skill descriptions and build effects?
- What exact failure am I trying to fix?
- Which functional job addresses that failure?
- Does each skill’s condition actually occur in this encounter?
- What is my formation hypothesis, and what evidence would confirm it?
- Did I change only one variable between tests?
- Does the lineup clear consistently in auto-battle?
- Will a new mode, summon, upgrade, or build change require a fresh test?
Bottom line
Build around verified skill interactions and observed results from the heroes you own. Treat formation as part of the lineup, test it rather than assuming a conventional front/back rule, and adapt the squad when progression opens a different mode or your builds change. Until the game publishes exact position effects and a complete role system, a careful worksheet and controlled auto-battle tests are more trustworthy than any universal tier list.
