Riot’s notes give the returning spell revised damage, timing, targeting and cooldown values. The description “one of the worst-designed spells” is a subjective criticism, not an official Riot ranking; it reflects concerns about the original ability’s untargetability and limited counterplay.
What is Blade Waltz?
Blade Waltz was Fiora’s former ultimate. In a 2023 retrospective, Riftfeed describes the old ability as making Fiora untargetable while she struck a random enemy five times. The same account argues that this left opponents with virtually no counterplay and made repeated on-hit effects difficult to balance. Those are the outlet’s design criticisms, not a measured consensus among players or an explanation from Riot.

The underlying tension is straightforward: a sequence of rapid strikes can feel powerful for Fiora, while untargetability restricts opponents’ ability to respond during that sequence. That helps explain why some players may call the spell poorly designed, but it does not make “worst-designed” an objective or official verdict. Riftfeed’s retrospective sets out that critique.

Riot also fixed a bug that could prevent Fiora from attacking or moving for two seconds if her target immediately became untargetable. The notes list that fix alongside the ability changes; they do not say that it was caused by the historical design criticism.
What the numbers do—and do not—show
The per-hit damage values are lower at all three ranks, while the listed maximum single-target damage is slightly higher at each rank and has a lower bonus-AD ratio. These are different measurements in Riot’s notes, so the lower per-hit figures alone do not describe the maximum single-target result.

The cooldown is longer at ranks one and two, and unchanged at rank three. Riot also places damage later in the animation and adjusts target priority to seek enemies Fiora has not already struck when possible. Those changes describe the spell’s tuning and behavior; the notes do not provide a controlled comparison of balance, player experience, win rate or pick rate.
