That is a historical acquisition list, not a verified current list: on September 4, 2026, the company announced an agreement to sell Excel Industries, which owns Hustler and BigDog, but said the deal still required regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions.
The seven brands in Stanley Black & Decker’s 2021 announcement
On December 1, 2021, Stanley Black & Decker said it had completed its acquisitions of MTD Holdings and Excel Industries. Its release named five MTD brands and two Excel brands, giving the historical seven-brand set below. The names describe the companies’ announcement at the time; they should not be read as a current, exhaustive ownership register.

The release said Stanley Black & Decker acquired the remaining 80% stake in MTD to complete that purchase. MTD was founded in 1932, according to the same announcement. Read the December 1, 2021 acquisition announcement.

On September 4, 2026, Stanley Black & Decker announced a definitive agreement to sell Excel Industries to Bad Boy Mowers. The announcement said the transaction remained subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions. Therefore, the announcement alone does not establish that the sale has closed; Hustler and BigDog belong to the historical Excel acquisition list, while their ownership after a completed sale would depend on the transaction closing.

The company estimated Excel would generate approximately $300 million in FY 2026 revenue. That is an expectation stated in the sale announcement, not a reported full-year result. The release also said Stanley Black & Decker remained committed to growing its Outdoor brands Cub Cadet, DEWALT, Craftsman, Troy-Bilt and Black+Decker. This is a named group of brands the company said it planned to grow, not an exhaustive list of every mower-related brand it owns.

Does Stanley Black & Decker own Cub Cadet, Craftsman or Troy-Bilt?
- Cub Cadet: The company’s current brand page says Cub Cadet joined its family of brands in 2021. The page describes gas and electric outdoor equipment, including a full electric lineup, and says the first Cub Cadet mower reached the market in 1961. See Stanley Black & Decker’s Cub Cadet page.
- Troy-Bilt: It was one of the MTD brands named in the 2021 acquisition release and was also among the Outdoor brands the company said it planned to grow in September 2026.
- Craftsman: The September 2026 announcement included Craftsman among the Outdoor brands Stanley Black & Decker said it remained committed to growing. It was not one of the seven brands named in the 2021 MTD-and-Excel acquisition list.
The company’s Outdoor page provides additional brand and product information, but its featured links and products should not be treated as a complete subsidiary or trademark list.

Why “seven” needs a date and a definition
The number seven is accurate for the MTD and Excel brands named in the December 2021 acquisition announcement. It does not establish that all seven are still owned by Stanley Black & Decker today, nor that they are the company’s only mower-related brands. By September 2026, the company had announced a proposed Excel sale and separately named five Outdoor brands it intended to keep growing. Those lists answer different questions: what was acquired in 2021, what sale was proposed later, and which brands the company highlighted as continuing priorities.

What this ownership list tells you if you are choosing a mower
Brand ownership by itself does not establish mower quality, reliability, value or suitability for a particular lawn. The available company pages confirm product categories, not comparable model performance or independent durability results. For a practical shortlist, evaluate the mower rather than the parent-company name:
