What is Lavazza Tablì?
Tablì is a single-serve espresso system consisting of a purpose-built machine and pressed coffee tabs. Lavazza describes each tab as ground coffee formed into a ready-to-use dose with no casing. The company says the tabs are made from 100% coffee and can go into organic waste collection with food scraps, subject to what a local waste service accepts. In practice, the system trades a conventional capsule for a compact coffee dose without a separate capsule shell. It does not eliminate the need for a dedicated consumable: Lavazza USA says its Tablì tabs work exclusively with the Tablì machine. The evidence establishes that tab exclusivity; it does not establish that other capsules, pods, ESE servings or loose grounds work in Tablì, or that Tablì tabs fit any other brewer. How does the machine work, and what can it make?
TechRadar’s hands-on report describes three soft-touch controls for single, double and lungo drinks, with the tab inserted through a sliding upper section. The reviewer also noted a removable drip tray that can accommodate espresso cups or larger mugs. These are observations from that report, rather than details from Lavazza’s specification list. Electrical details matter when buying across regions; confirm the exact model and local voltage before purchase.

Specifications are from Lavazza’s machine page. The page’s wording gives the used-tab container capacity as “eight used caps.” Because that label refers to caps rather than clearly confirmed tabs, it should not be treated as a verified tab capacity.

Do the coffee tabs actually taste good?
There is limited but relevant hands-on evidence. A TechRadar reviewer says they tried Qualità Rossa and Qualità Oro and found both produced “a smooth-tasting, easy-drinking espresso without the astringent taste I associate with most coffee tabs.” That is a personal tasting report from two varieties, not a blind comparison, laboratory extraction test or broad consumer panel. Lavazza’s listings show that the selection varies by market. Its official tab page lists Qualità Oro, Espresso Classico, Espresso Intenso and Decaf. Does the pod-free format make Tablì more sustainable?
The format avoids a separate capsule casing, and Lavazza says the 100% coffee tabs can be disposed of with food scraps through organic waste collection. That may suit buyers seeking to avoid conventional capsule shells, but the disposal guidance depends on local collection rules. The available product information does not establish home-compostability, universal curbside acceptance, a lifecycle impact advantage or a quantified reduction in waste. Is Tablì available where you live?
Availability is country-specific and can change. Lavazza’s global machine page displayed a “not available at the moment” notice when checked for this coverage, while Lavazza UK’s machine page showed a limited-time launch offer. TechRadar’s June 2026 US launch coverage described a bundle with a machine, milk frother, 60 tabs and tweezers, with shipping expected to begin in August. That is dated launch information, not confirmation of today’s bundle or stock. The frother is optional: it is not needed to brew espresso, though it may be useful if you want milk drinks. Who should consider the Tablì?
- It may suit you if you want a single-serve machine, like the listed Lavazza blends, and prefer a coffee-only tab without a separate capsule shell.
- Think carefully before switching if you rely on open-format servings or want to use supplies from a machine you already own. Tablì is a proprietary system, and Lavazza USA specifies that its tabs work exclusively in the Tablì machine.
- Check before buying if you live outside the listed launch markets, need a particular voltage, or want a reliable price-per-cup or environmental comparison. The cited information does not establish current comparative costs or a quantified lifecycle advantage.
Lavazza Group says the system followed its 2020 acquisition of Italian startup Caffemotive and its tab concept, and that the project generated more than 15 new patents.
