The Lava Blaze Duo 5G is worth considering if you will actually use its small rear AMOLED screen and want a near-stock Android experience. Its 1.58-inch secondary display is unusual and handy for framing rear-camera selfies, checking supported notifications and controlling music. But the phone’s camera quality, outdoor screen visibility, single speaker and charging speed are notable compromises. For buyers who care more about photography or fast charging than the rear screen, it is a difficult recommendation.
What makes the Blaze Duo different?
Launched in India in December 2024, the Lava Blaze Duo 5G pairs a conventional front display with a 1.58-inch AMOLED panel on the back, beside the cameras. Lava’s launch announcement describes the rear screen as a key feature; in 91mobiles’ January 9, 2025 review, Ashish Kumar found it useful for framing selfies with the main cameras, controlling music, and checking the time and notifications from a limited selection of supported apps.

That utility is real, but it is not a second full-size screen. The reviewer said its controls were less extensive than those on Lava’s Agni 3. If you rarely take selfies with a rear camera or glance at notifications without waking the main display, the extra panel may be more novelty than reason to buy.

Display: appealing on paper, less convincing outdoors
Main screen
Lava specifies a 6.67-inch curved AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution (1080 × 2400 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate. Those specifications make it well suited to sharp text, video and smoother scrolling. However, 91mobiles cited a peak brightness of 625 nits and found the screen challenging to see in direct sunlight. Treat that as the reviewer’s assessment, not a guarantee of how every user or setting will perform.
#1 Best Overall
- It is supported by advanced RFID blocking technology to block signals and protect your personal information effectively
- Can stand the phone up to watch something hands-free
- High quality PU leather, very light, it have card slots, can be put into cards and money
- Magnetic flap to keep it closed and protected, secure magnetic closure
- Frosted surface, delicate feel, Colorful Reflect Light
Rear screen
The 1.58-inch (4.02 cm) AMOLED secondary display has a reported resolution of 228 × 460 pixels. Its practical strengths are quick glances and camera framing, not replacing the main screen. The range of notifications it can show is limited to supported apps, so do not assume every app will appear there.
Performance and software
The phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7025 and comes in 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB configurations. Lava also advertises memory expansion—6GB+6GB or 8GB+8GB—alongside the physical RAM figures; the additional number refers to expanded memory, not extra physical RAM. Storage is 128GB and is not expandable, according to Gadgets 360’s launch report.

On the 8GB unit it tested, 91mobiles recorded over 500,000 on AnTuTu and reported smooth everyday use and gaming. The reviewer also noted weaker thermal efficiency than the comparison phones in its tests. These are observations from one review unit and its workloads, not a promise that every retail unit will produce the same score or stay equally cool under sustained load.
The phone launched with Android 14. Lava’s announcement said it was upgradable to Android 15, while Gadgets 360 reported a promise of one major Android OS update. Those launch-era statements do not establish which version is installed on a device now, whether Android 15 reached every variant or region, or the current security-patch schedule. Check the specific handset and Lava’s current support information before buying if update support is important to you.

- 3D multi-directional shape change, depending on different light and angle
- PC hard back panel + soft silicone frame + four corners Shock Airbags
- The frosted surface prevents most fingerprints and the 3D design is stylish
- The ring mount features a magnetic ring, allowing you to use it in your car or for other magnetic applications
Cameras: the clearest reason to look elsewhere
The rear cameras comprise a 64MP main camera with a Sony sensor and a 2MP macro camera; the front camera is 16MP. Megapixel counts alone do not establish image quality. In its review, 91mobiles found daylight photos less sharp and less color-accurate than images from its comparison phones, and criticized the selfie camera’s detail and skin tones. Those are the reviewer’s findings, but they point to a meaningful trade-off if dependable photos matter more to you than the rear display.
Battery, charging and sound
Lava rates the battery at 5,000mAh and charging at 33W, and says a 33W charger is included. The company’s launch materials claim a 50% charge in 36 minutes under Lava’s standard testing conditions. In contrast, 91mobiles reported that its tested phone took around 72 minutes to charge from 20% to 100%. That is one review-unit result, not a guaranteed charge time for every device or charging condition. The reviewer said ordinary use could last roughly a day, but actual endurance depends on workload and settings.

Audio comes through a single speaker. 91mobiles found it lacked crispness at maximum volume, so buyers who often listen aloud may want to assess speaker quality in person or use headphones.

Gadgets 360 lists IP64 dust and splash resistance, but that rating does not mean the phone is waterproof. 91mobiles reports a weight of 186g and thickness of 8.5mm. Other listed specifications include an in-display fingerprint reader, 5G and 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS and USB Type-C. Launch colors were Arctic White and Celestial Blue.

Price and availability: check before deciding
Lava’s December 2024 launch prices were ₹16,999 for the 6GB+128GB variant and ₹17,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant. The announcement advertised effective prices of ₹14,999 and ₹15,999 respectively with a limited-time ₹2,000 HDFC offer; those were offer-dependent launch prices, not standard prices. A Gadgets 360 listing updated September 11, 2026 showed a starting price of ₹15,800 and marked the variants out of stock in that snapshot. Neither dated listing is a live quote. Who should buy the Lava Blaze Duo 5G?
It may suit you if
- You will use the rear display for selfie framing, music controls or quick checks of supported notifications.
- You value a near-stock Android experience and the 120Hz AMOLED main screen more than camera performance.
- You are comfortable checking current software support, price and availability before committing.
Look at other options if
- Camera detail, color consistency or selfie quality is a priority.
- You need a screen that is easy to read in direct sunlight.
- You care about quick charging or a stronger built-in speaker.
In its January 2025 review, 91mobiles named the Redmi Note 14 and HMD Fusion as alternatives for buyers prioritizing photography, faster charging or speaker quality. That is a dated suggestion rather than a current ranking: compare today’s availability, pricing and software support, as well as camera results, outdoor visibility and charging under comparable conditions.
Verdict
The Lava Blaze Duo 5G is a niche choice, not an all-rounder to recommend on its rear screen alone. That display offers useful, specific conveniences, and the review found everyday performance adequate and the software relatively clean. But the camera weaknesses, difficult outdoor visibility, single-speaker limitations and slower charging are compromises you will encounter more often than an occasional glance at the back panel. Buy it only if the secondary display is a feature you genuinely want and the current price and support status check out; otherwise, prioritize a phone with stronger cameras or charging.
