Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Last Asylum: Plague has three explicit hero roles: tanks absorb pressure, damage dealers (DPS or carries) turn that survival time into kills, and supports keep allies alive or improve their performance with healing, shields, buffs, or damage reduction. For a new account, begin with two tanks, two damage dealers, and one support. As your roster develops, test whether a third tank produces more total damage over a fight than replacing it with another carry or a support.
What each Last Asylum: Plague class actually does
The role shown on a hero card is a useful starting point, but it describes a job in the squad rather than a complete ranking of power. A hero’s value depends on how long the team survives, how quickly it removes threats, what utility it supplies, and how its faction interacts with the enemy.

| Role | Primary job | Typical strengths | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tank | Hold the frontline and absorb pressure | Highest emphasis on HP, plus shields or damage reduction | Usually less direct killing focus than a dedicated DPS |
| Damage dealer / carry / DPS | Eliminate enemies quickly | Highest emphasis on ATK, with burst or sustained damage | Needs time and protection from the frontline |
| Support | Extend survival and improve team output | Healing, buffs, shields, or damage reduction | Usually deals less direct damage than a dedicated DPS |
Tanks: the durability anchor
Tanks are built to occupy the dangerous part of the formation. Their value is measured by how much enemy pressure they can absorb and how long they can keep damage away from fragile allies. A tank may also contribute shields or damage reduction, so survival is not limited to the tank’s own HP.
That durability creates the window in which carries can attack. If a damage dealer dies before using its skills, adding another source of attack will not necessarily improve the result; a sturdier front line can produce more completed attacks and therefore more damage over the whole fight.

Damage dealers: the fight-ending engine
Damage dealers, also called carries or DPS, place the greatest emphasis on ATK. They may specialize in burst damage that removes a target quickly or sustained damage that keeps increasing while the battle continues. Their weakness is dependency: without enough frontline time, their offensive potential is never realized.
When comparing two DPS heroes, do not look only at rarity or a single attack number. Ask whether the rest of the lineup can keep each candidate alive, whether the enemy matchup allows its damage pattern to work, and whether faction bonuses improve the complete squad.
Supports: sustain and utility
Supports occupy the space between offense and defense while providing a job that tanks and DPS do not: ally healing. Support heroes can also supply shields, buffs, or damage reduction. That utility may increase the team’s effective durability or improve the damage that carries deliver, even when the support’s personal damage is modest.

How to judge a lineup beyond the class labels
Use four questions when deciding whether a hero belongs in your five:
- Survivability: Can the lineup withstand incoming damage long enough for its skills and attacks to matter? Tanks and defensive supports lead here.
- Damage output: Can it remove priority targets before the enemy overwhelms the formation? Damage dealers are the primary contributors.
- Utility and sustain: Does the squad heal, shield, buff, or reduce damage over repeated fights? Supports matter most for this axis.
- Faction interaction: Does the lineup benefit from its faction arrangement, and is it facing a countered faction?
These dimensions can point in different directions. A lineup with the highest displayed ATK can still lose if it lacks time to attack, while a very durable lineup can stall indefinitely if it cannot finish targets.
The practical five-hero starting formation
A beginner-friendly template is two tanks, two damage dealers, and one support. The guide’s example uses Arthur and Daskal as the frontline, with Marlena and Zoya providing damage and Harper supplying support.
| Slot | Example heroes | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Frontline tank 1 | Arthur | Absorb pressure and anchor the formation |
| Frontline tank 2 | Daskal | Add a second durability layer |
| Backline damage 1 | Marlena | Primary offensive output |
| Backline damage 2 | Zoya | Additional burst or sustained damage |
| Backline support | Harper | Healing or other defensive/offensive utility |
The named heroes are an example, not a requirement. Substitute heroes from the same roles when those are the characters available on your account.

Position the five heroes
- Place both tanks in the front positions so incoming pressure reaches them before the backline.
- Place the two carries behind the tanks, where they can keep attacking instead of being the first targets.
- Place the support behind the frontline as well, protecting its access to allies who need healing, shields, or buffs.
- Run the formation against the current encounter and note which failure happens first: tanks falling, carries being exposed, or targets surviving too long.
- Change one slot at a time so you can tell whether the new role, faction arrangement, or hero is responsible for the result.
Should you use three tanks?
A separate squad-builder analysis evaluated 169,911 five-hero squads and found a broad computed optimum around three tanks. In those results, the two remaining slots were most often either two damage dealers or one damage dealer and one support.
This is a composition result, not a universal rule. The calculation does not erase differences in your roster, enemy matchup, faction bonuses, or progression stage. Treat three tanks as a hypothesis to test when your two-tank team collapses before its carries can work.
| Battle symptom | First composition to test | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Both tanks die before the carries establish damage | Three tanks, one DPS, one support | More durability and sustain can extend the fight |
| The team survives but cannot finish targets | Two tanks, two DPS, one support | Preserves protection while adding offensive output |
| The team survives and deals damage, but eventually loses to attrition | Three tanks, one DPS, one support | Extra mitigation or frontline time may matter more than a second carry |
| One carry is consistently protected and the other adds little | Three tanks, one DPS, one support | The third tank may produce more total team damage by extending the useful carry’s uptime |
| Enemy targets fall quickly but your team is exposed to a counter | Keep two tanks and adjust faction or support | Role count alone does not solve faction disadvantage |
Compare total fight performance, not just the damage statistic on a hero screen. A third tank is worthwhile when the extra survival creates enough additional attacks, skills, or support effects to outweigh the lost DPS slot.
Faction counters and same-faction bonuses
Last Asylum: Plague uses a counter relationship among the Warrior, Warlock, and Ranger factions. A faction advantage can change the result of an otherwise similar role matchup, so a hero should not be ranked by rarity alone.

Lineups also receive escalating HP, ATK, and DEF bonuses for using the same faction. The exact bonus depends on the arrangement shown by the game, but the practical decision is clear: compare a role-balanced team with a faction-coherent team rather than assuming that five individually strong heroes are always best.
- Check the enemy faction before replacing a tank, carry, or support.
- Consider whether a same-faction bonus raises the entire squad’s HP, ATK, or DEF enough to offset a small individual-stat difference.
- Do not sacrifice the only source of healing or essential frontline durability merely to complete a faction bonus.
- When a lineup fails unexpectedly, test faction arrangement before spending resources on a new hero.
Hero examples by role
The following names are identified as examples of their respective roles. Availability and roster counts can change with updates, server age, and acquisition route, so use the role displayed on the current hero card as the final check.
| Role | Named examples |
|---|---|
| Tanks | Arthur, Daskal, Billy, Brian, Louis, Shadow |
| Damage dealers / carries | Marlena, Zoya, Annie, Jester, Red Lady, Cynthia |
| Supports | Harper, Bell, Nicole, Stellar, Celia |
How progression and availability affect the decision
The best theoretical composition is not useful if its heroes are unavailable. Acquisition routes documented for the game include the Tavern, Top Up, Top Up Bonus Reward, and Daily Offer. Access can also depend on server age and other progression conditions.

Build around the strongest complete team you can field now, then replace pieces as the roster expands. Keep a functioning tank line, at least one reliable damage dealer, and a source of support utility before chasing a narrow optimization. A newly obtained carry may look stronger in isolation but still underperform if removing a support causes the team to collapse.

A resource-conscious upgrade order
- Raise enough frontline durability that tanks survive the opening pressure.
- Invest in the carry that receives the most uninterrupted attack time.
- Improve the support when healing, shields, or mitigation are the reason a fight is lost.
- Only then test a third tank or a second carry against the current encounter.
- Recheck faction bonuses and counters after every major roster change.
A repeatable test for choosing your fifth slot
If you are deciding between a second carry, a support, and a third tank, use the same short test for each option:
- Record whether the frontline survives to the end of the encounter.
- Record whether your main carry remains active for most of the fight.
- Record whether the enemy loses targets quickly enough to prevent a damage race.
- Check whether healing, shielding, or damage reduction changes the number of attacks your team completes.
- Keep the option that improves the actual win condition, not the one with the largest isolated stat.
This method also exposes common mistakes: adding DPS while the backline dies immediately, adding tanks when the enemy is already falling quickly, or removing the only support and losing to repeated attrition.
Bottom line for new and established accounts
Start with two tanks, two damage dealers, and one support because it gives a clear balance of protection, killing power, and sustain. Use tanks to buy time, carries to convert that time into eliminations, and supports to keep the engine running. Once your roster and faction options improve, test a three-tank composition—usually with either two carries or one carry plus one support—against the encounters that defeat you. The winning arrangement is the one that survives the matchup and finishes the fight, not a fixed role ratio or the rarest collection of heroes.
