Larix Broadcaster YouTube Stream Out of Sync: How to Diagnose and Fix It

First find out where the sync error starts. Compare a local recording or preview with the YouTube Live Control Room preview, then make one targeted change at a time. If the mismatch is already present locally, focus on the phone and audio/video inputs; if it first appears in YouTube’s preview, check Larix’s outgoing stream and network path. There is no documented Larix setting or fixed millisecond adjustment that corrects every case.

Locate where the audio and video diverge

Audio/video timing can be affected by several stages: the phone’s capture and encoder, Larix’s buffering, the connection to YouTube, and YouTube’s delivery and playback. Larix says its interleaving buffer collects audio and video frames to align them for processing by the receiver, but that does not guarantee every later stage will preserve synchronization. Larix also notes it can control only part of the end-to-end chain. Softvelum’s Larix FAQ explains these buffering and latency limits.

  1. Make a brief private or unlisted test. Use the same phone, microphone or audio input, connection, and Larix profile as the affected broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow includes checking the stream preview in Live Control Room before going live. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe that workflow.
  2. Add an obvious sync cue. Clap once where the camera can see it and the microphone can hear it. Compare the visible clap with its sound in the local result and YouTube preview. This is a practical diagnostic technique, not a prescribed Larix or YouTube fix.
  3. Note what you observe. Record whether audio leads or trails, whether the offset stays about the same or grows over time, and whether the problem is present locally, in YouTube’s preview, or only for a viewer.
  4. Change one thing, then repeat. Keeping the test consistent makes it easier to identify which part of the setup affects the result.

The phone model, operating system, Larix version, audio input, and connection are not specified here, so a device-specific setting or diagnosis cannot be assumed.

If the local recording or preview is already out of sync

Start at the source rather than changing YouTube settings. Larix uses the system encoder, and mobile capture and frame-rate behavior can vary by device and platform. YouTube advises creators to connect and configure their audio and video hardware with the encoder, but does not prescribe a particular microphone or adapter as a sync fix.

  • Swaps easily between handheld selfie stick and stand-alone tripod for dual-purpose use
  • Whether you're an amateur, enthusiast or professional, this is a must-have accesory for shooting on the go
  1. In Larix, check which audio input is selected and whether an external microphone, interface, or other audio device is in the chain.
  2. For a comparison test, use the phone’s built-in camera and audio input, and temporarily remove optional audio processing or external devices.
  3. If that simpler setup is synchronized, reintroduce external inputs and processing one at a time. The first change that brings the mismatch back points to a part of the capture path to investigate.

Do not buy a microphone or adapter as a general fix: a purchase is only worth considering if controlled tests isolate the problem to that audio-input path and confirm compatibility with the phone.

If the local result is aligned but YouTube’s preview is not

Verify the YouTube destination and stream credentials

In YouTube’s encoder setup, confirm the current server URL and stream key are entered in Larix. They are separate pieces of information. Check that the encoder is sending the intended audio and video, then watch the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast. Follow YouTube’s current encoder workflow rather than reusing a key or server address without checking the active stream setup.

Review connection conditions and protocol behavior

Larix documents different buffering behavior for RTMP/RTSP delivery and SRT recovery. It also notes that poor network delivery can increase delay. These facts make the connection path worth checking, but the available documentation does not identify switching protocols or changing a latency value as a universal audio/video sync correction.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Repeat the controlled test under stable network conditions if possible. Treat protocol or connection changes as tests of a specific transport hypothesis, not as guaranteed fixes. Avoid changing several connection options at once.

If the offset grows during the stream

A mismatch that increases over time behaves differently from a roughly constant offset. Compare the clap cue at several points and note network changes, device load, and whether the local recording also drifts. If local timing remains aligned while YouTube’s preview drifts, the issue may lie later in the delivery path; if the local recording drifts too, revisit capture and encoding.

Larix discusses adaptive bitrate (ABR) as a response to delivery problems. Its FAQ says that on iOS, buffering can increase delivery delay when ABR is not used; it does not say ABR fixes every kind of synchronization drift. You can test ABR or bitrate changes when network delivery is a plausible cause, but change one setting at a time and compare results. Do not treat a bitrate adjustment as a guaranteed sync repair.

Verify the fix before going live

After a targeted change, repeat the short test with the same cue and compare the local result with YouTube’s Live Control Room preview. Start the public stream only when the preview is satisfactory; YouTube places preview review before the Go live step in its encoder workflow.

Common troubleshooting mistakes

  • Changing several settings together: You may not know which change affected sync. Repeat the test after each individual change.
  • Assuming a network delay is necessarily an A/V offset: Delivery delay and audio/video misalignment are not the same diagnosis. Check whether the cue is actually out of sync, and where.
  • Switching protocol or entering an arbitrary delay value: The Larix documentation cited here does not prescribe a universal protocol switch or millisecond adjustment. Avoid guessing at a value.
  • Buying hardware before isolating the cause: Test the built-in inputs first. Consider an external device only if the evidence points to that part of the signal path.
  • Checking only a viewer’s playback: Compare local output and the YouTube preview as well. If those are aligned but one viewer still sees a mismatch, playback conditions may be involved.
