W Magazine’s October 2 coverage of KATSEYE members Raj and Megan Skiendiel at the group’s Paris Fashion Week debut describes Raj in a yellow Loewe dress, a ruby-and-white gemstone bindi and gold anklets. W Magazine’s account does not mention sindoor or a maang tikka.

Those additional details appear in other reports. Hindustan Times described a bright yellow halter dress, sindoor along the hair parting, a maang tika and a bindi. Free Press Journal gave a more detailed outfit description: a canary-yellow Loewe halter mini dress, gemstone bindi linked to a gold maang tikka, gold anklets, a nose pin, silver jhumkas and a red streak identified as sindoor. Because the outlets’ descriptions differ, it is useful to distinguish what each reports rather than treating every detail as confirmed by every account.

Why the look prompted different reactions
Coverage describes a split response. Some commenters questioned using sindoor as fashion styling or raised its cultural and religious significance; others defended Raj’s right to express her heritage and argued that cultural adornment can have more than one context. Hindustan Times and IndiaTimes reported examples of both criticism and support, but their posts and comments do not show that either position represents public opinion as a whole.
Hindustan Times explicitly said its report drew on user-generated social-media content, that it had not independently verified those claims, and that it did not endorse them. The reactions are therefore best understood as examples of what some commenters said, not a settled verdict on the look or its meaning. Sindoor, bindi and maang tikka are not interchangeable
Reports name three distinct adornments: a red mark or streak identified as sindoor at the hair parting, a bindi on the forehead, and a maang tikka worn along the hair parting with a forehead ornament. They should not be collapsed into one generic accessory. Their meanings and uses can vary across communities and individuals; the coverage of this outfit does not provide a comprehensive account of those meanings.
Nor does the presence of an adornment establish a person’s marital status, private beliefs or reason for wearing it. The reporting captures disagreement about cultural context, but it does not resolve that disagreement or establish Raj’s intent for this appearance.

What Raj has said about wearing a bindi
Raj has previously discussed the bindi as part of her personal style and representation of Indian culture. In a May 2025 Teen Vogue interview, she spoke about combining traditional jewelry from her family with American clothing and said she wanted the bindi to be seen as something worth wearing, particularly after being teased for it growing up.
“I really wanted to make something like the Ohm necklace or the bindi into a fashion statement and something that people could see as, ‘Whoa, that’s so sick!’ and, ‘That’s so fire!’ And other brown girls, they want to wear it too, as a thing. It’s not something to get made fun of for. Because I always got made fun of for it, I really want to change that.”

Teen Vogue’s interview gives direct context for Raj’s earlier comments about the bindi. It does not explain why she wore sindoor or chose this particular combination for the Loewe show.
