Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA LambdaTest Screenshots API timeout can happen at three different points: when you submit a screenshot job, while the hosted job runs, or when you retrieve its result. Identify which request stalled before changing settings. The available documentation does not establish a current LambdaTest timeout limit, polling interval, timeout code, or safe retry policy, so avoid guessing numeric values.
First identify which stage timed out
LambdaTest documents a start request that returns a test_id, followed by separate operations to fetch screenshot details or a ZIP. Treat these as distinct requests and log each one separately. The API reference is version 1.0.1 and is an older structural reference, not confirmation of current timeout behavior (Screenshots API reference; Start Screenshot Test).
| Where it stalls | What to check first |
|---|---|
| Submitting the start request | Whether the POST reached the API and returned an HTTP response or a test_id; verify URL, method, authentication, content type, and body. |
| Waiting for the hosted screenshot run | Whether you have a test_id and are waiting on the job rather than the original POST. Record elapsed time and the exact operation used to check status. |
| Retrieving details or the ZIP | Whether the job produced a result and whether the details or ZIP request is the one that stalls. Keep retrieval errors separate from job-submission errors. |
For your own diagnosis, also distinguish a connection timeout (the client could not establish a connection) from a response/read timeout (the connection began, but the client did not receive a response in time). This is a general debugging framework, not a LambdaTest-published classification.
Verify the start request before changing timeout settings
The current support example uses an authenticated POST to https://api.lambdatest.com/screenshots/v1/, with Basic authentication and a JSON request body. The body can include the target URL, defer_time, email, resolution, tunnel settings, credentials, callback URL, and configuration. A successful example returns a test_id (LambdaTest Start Screenshot Test documentation).

- Confirm the endpoint and HTTP method match the current LambdaTest documentation.
- Check that the request sends JSON and that the Basic-auth credentials are constructed correctly for your account.
- Log the HTTP status, response body, elapsed time, and endpoint. Redact credentials and sensitive values before retaining or sharing logs.
- Record whether the POST returned a
test_id. If it did, investigate the later job-status or output request rather than treating the start request as failed. - If the POST timed out without a response, do not blindly resubmit it. The available sources do not establish whether repeating a timed-out start request is safe or whether it can create another test. First check for a created test using the account’s available tools or ask LambdaTest support.
Use defer_time for capture timing, not HTTP timeouts
LambdaTest Community product support said on July 14, 2022: “Defer time allows you to take the screenshots of the website once all the elements of the website are loaded” (LambdaTest Community discussion). That describes when capture happens relative to page content; it does not establish a longer client-side connection or read timeout.
If the screenshot is taken before content appears, investigate page readiness and capture timing. The cited source does not specify the current units or accepted range for defer_time, so consult the current API documentation rather than assuming a value or using it to mask a network/API timeout.

Check page-specific inputs without assuming they caused the timeout
The start request example includes fields for tunnels, credentials, and other configuration. If the target page depends on a tunnel, authentication, or a particular browser setup, verify those inputs against your intended test. Their presence in the request format does not prove that any one of them causes a timeout; use the returned response and logs to establish what happened.
Capture evidence and escalate precisely
Timeout-specific LambdaTest codes, service-side duration limits, retry rules, and recommended polling cadence are not established by the cited material. Before changing client limits or retry behavior, check the current LambdaTest documentation or contact support with evidence that identifies the stalled phase.

Does a timed-out start request mean no screenshot test was created?
Not necessarily. A client-side timeout alone does not establish whether the server received the request. Look for a returned test_id or check through the account’s available tools before resubmitting.

No such behavior is documented in the cited material. It is described as affecting when the screenshot is captured relative to page elements loading.
