The Kyocera ECOSYS PA4000x is a compact, single-function A4 monochrome laser printer built for office document work. Kyocera’s 2024 European specifications rate it at up to 40 pages per minute, with standard duplex printing and 350 sheets of standard input capacity. It is a plausible fit for a networked office that prints text-heavy documents, but the documented connections are Ethernet and USB—not built-in Wi-Fi—and current toner prices are needed to judge its running cost.
This review assesses the manufacturer’s specifications and product materials; it is not based on independent hands-on testing. Real print quality, reliability, noise in use, and actual toner yield are not established here.

What the PA4000x is—and who it suits
The PA4000x prints in monochrome on A4 paper. Kyocera identifies printing as its function; the cited product materials do not list scanning or copying. That makes it a better match for a desk or workgroup that already has a separate scanner or multifunction device than for someone looking for an all-in-one.
Its rated speed, duplexing, Ethernet connection, and expandable paper supply point toward routine office documents: reports, forms, and other jobs where black-and-white output matters more than color. The specs alone do not establish how well it handles a particular workload or how long it will last in a given office.

Speed and duplex printing
Kyocera Document Solutions Europe’s 2024 datasheet rates the printer at up to 40 A4 pages per minute for simplex printing and up to 20 A4 pages per minute for duplex printing. Its specified first-print time is up to 6.4 seconds. These are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements; actual job time can vary with the document, settings, and office environment.
The same datasheet gives a recommended average print volume of 2,000 pages per month and a maximum of 80,000 pages per month. Kyocera cautions that the printer is not designed to achieve the stated volumes continuously. It also lists a maximum life of 200,000 pages or five years. These are manufacturer ratings, not a reliability study or a guarantee that a particular unit will reach those limits.
Paper capacity and supported media
Standard input totals 350 sheets: 100 in the multipurpose tray and 250 in the universal cassette, according to the 2024 European datasheet. The multipurpose tray is useful when a job needs a different stock from the paper kept in the cassette.

- Standard duplex unit: specified for paper weights from 60 to 163 g/m².
- Multipurpose tray: accepts stock up to 220 g/m², according to the datasheet.
- Optional expansion: one or two PF-1100 feeders, each holding up to 250 sheets, can raise the stated maximum input capacity to 850 sheets.
The PF-1100 is an optional accessory, not part of the standard 350-sheet configuration. Check compatibility and availability for the model and market where you plan to buy it. The capacity range may help offices that want fewer paper reloads or need to keep different stocks available, but it is not by itself a recommended-volume rating.
Connections, mobile printing, and wireless caveat
The PA4000x datasheet lists Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000BASE-T) and USB 2.0. Kyocera also lists Apple AirPrint, Mopria, Microsoft Universal Print, and its Kyocera Mobile Print app among supported print methods. Those mobile and cloud options do not establish that the printer has built-in Wi-Fi.
Do not confuse the PA4000x with the similarly named PA4000wx when checking wireless capability. The cited PA4000x materials document Ethernet and USB, so confirm the exact model’s connection options with the seller before purchase if Wi-Fi is essential.

Security features and optional functions
Kyocera’s European datasheet lists security measures including Secure Boot, run-time integrity checks, allowlisting, TLS 1.3, IPsec, SNMPv3, IP filtering, and authentication controls. These features may matter in managed office networks, where configuration and policy requirements vary.
Some functions are optional rather than standard. The datasheet indicates that job storage and several confidential-print functions require an optional SD/SDHC card; a TPM is listed separately as an option. Confirm which functions and accessories are included in the regional configuration you are considering.
Toner, yields, and the cost question
The European datasheet lists three yield figures. They are manufacturer values based on average continuous yield measured under ISO/IEC 19752, not a promise of how many pages an individual office will print. Real yield depends in part on page coverage and usage.

| Toner or supply | Manufacturer-stated yield | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| TK-1260 toner | 10,000 pages | Verify the regional SKU is compatible with the exact PA4000x model. |
| TK-1300 toner | 3,000 pages | Verify the regional SKU is compatible with the exact PA4000x model. |
| Included starter toner | 3,600 pages | This is the datasheet’s stated starter yield, not an estimate of every buyer’s initial output. |
Kyocera Document Solutions Europe’s 2024 datasheet lists these figures. The cartridge-free ECOSYS system still requires regular toner replacement; Kyocera’s claims about long-life components are manufacturer positioning, not independent evidence of lifetime cost. Without current local toner prices and a verified real-world yield, a cost-per-page figure cannot be calculated. Before buying, compare the price and availability of compatible toner in your market, and do not assume that visually similar PA4000x and PA4000wx supplies are interchangeable.

The 2024 European datasheet reports sound-pressure figures of 52 dB(A) while printing and 48 dB(A) in quiet mode under its cited ISO measurement language. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent listening or noise testing. Kyocera Document Solutions UK describes the printer as having “quiet printing capabilities” and “reliable performance”; that is the manufacturer’s marketing statement, not a tested conclusion.
Warranty terms differ across Kyocera’s regional materials. The European datasheet states one year standard, plus a three-year or 100,000-page drum/developer guarantee, whichever comes first, subject to the stated service conditions. The UK product page displays two years standard. Confirm the warranty that applies in your country and through your seller before purchase.
Verdict: a capable-looking office printer, with costs to verify
The PA4000x’s specification sheet makes a coherent case for a monochrome office printer: rated 40-page-per-minute A4 output, standard duplex, a 350-sheet standard paper supply expandable to 850, and Ethernet-based network printing. Its fit is less certain if the office requires built-in Wi-Fi, scanning or copying, or a confidently calculated running cost. Those decisions require checking the exact regional model, local warranty, and toner prices; manufacturer specifications cannot substitute for independent performance evidence.
