The Kyocera ECOSYS PA2101cwx is an A4 color laser printer aimed at home offices and small offices. Kyocera’s regional pages list automatic duplex printing, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct, a 250-sheet cassette and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray. Two details change depending on where you buy: the rated speed (21 pages per minute on Kyocera’s UK page, 22 ppm on its Canadian page) and the toner cartridge code (the US and Australian pages use different cartridge families).
This is a specification-led review. It explains what Kyocera publishes for this model, how those figures differ by market, and what they do not tell you. It is not a hands-on test. Print quality, noise, setup, reliability and running cost are not covered by the evidence below, and those are the points that most affect a buying decision.

The practical lesson is simple: a specification sheet from one market may not describe the model you can buy in another. Start with the Kyocera page for your own country before comparing numbers.

Speed: why both 21 ppm and 22 ppm appear
Kyocera’s UK page lists up to 21 pages per minute in A4 for both color and black-and-white. Its Canadian page lists an engine speed of 22 ppm in monochrome and color. Both are rated figures from the manufacturer. Neither is a measured throughput on your documents, and the sources do not explain the one-page-per-minute gap between markets.
For most buyers the difference is small. A rated speed mainly tells you how the printer compares with other listings on the same basis. It does not predict how long a 40-page report takes once warm-up, page complexity, driver settings and network traffic are included.
Does the Kyocera PA2101cwx print double sided?
Yes. Kyocera lists duplex printing as standard on the UK product page, which describes it as “Duplex as standard: Double-sided printing: 60 – 120 g/m²; A4, A5, B5, Letter, Legal.” The duplex paper range is 60 to 120 g/m², so heavier card stock or very light paper sits outside the published range. Kyocera’s pages cited here do not state what happens with media outside that range, so test your usual paper before a large job.

Kyocera’s Canadian page describes the model with this marketing line: “The ECOSYS PA2101cwx offers durable printing and energy-saving technology, reducing costs and environmental impact.” That is Kyocera’s own wording. It is not an independent finding about durability or energy use.
Paper handling and the PF-5110 option
The standard paper path combines a 250-sheet cassette with a 50-sheet multipurpose tray, giving 300 sheets of standard capacity according to the US guide. The UK page adds a 150-sheet face-down output tray. That is enough for routine office work, but a high-volume user will refill the cassette often.
The US guide lists the PF-5110 250-sheet feeder as an optional paper-handling item. With it fitted, the US guide gives a maximum input of 550 sheets (300 standard plus 250 from the feeder). The UK, Canadian and Australian pages cited here do not mention the PF-5110, so confirm that it is sold and supported in your market before you budget for it.

Does the PA2101cwx have Wi-Fi?
Yes. Kyocera lists standard wireless connectivity and Wi-Fi Direct on the UK page. The US guide specifies 802.11a/b/g/n/ac wireless, Wi-Fi Direct, Gigabit Ethernet and USB 2.0. Wi-Fi Direct lets a device print without joining the office router, which is useful in a home office where the printer is not on the main network.

- Your router’s band support. The listed wireless standards include 802.11ac, but your computers and router must also support the band you plan to use.
- Whether you need a wired connection. Gigabit Ethernet and USB 2.0 are listed in the US guide; the UK page does not list them in the excerpt reviewed.
- Whether your phones and laptops need Wi-Fi Direct or only the shared network. Both are listed, but the setup steps are not covered by the specifications.
What toner does the Kyocera PA2101cwx use?
The toner code depends on the market. The US guide uses the TK-5492 and TK-5482 families. The Australian page uses TK-5494 and TK-5484. A code listed for one market should not be assumed to work in another, so confirm the exact part number on Kyocera’s page for your country before you buy.

These yields are manufacturer-stated estimates. The US guide describes the TK-5492 figures as high-capacity yields. The Australian page says its starter cartridges yield 1,500 pages A4. The test conditions behind the yields are not described in the excerpts reviewed, so treat them as a basis for comparison rather than a prediction of your page count.

To estimate running cost, divide the local price of each replacement cartridge by its stated yield, then weight the color cartridges by how often you print in color. No current cartridge price was verified for this review, so no per-page figure is given here.
Dimensions and weight
The UK page lists the printer at 410 × 410 × 329 mm and approximately 22 kg with toner. The footprint is square, so it suits a desk or cabinet where depth is the limiting dimension. Measure the space, and allow room at the back and top for cable access and the output tray. Weight matters if you move the unit or set it on a shelf.

Warranty and security support depend on country
- UK: the product page states a standard warranty of one year, depending on country.
- Australia: the product page lists a two-year return-to-base warranty.
- Security support: the Australian page states support until February 2028. That is a dated statement for the Australian listing, not a guarantee for every buyer or for later years.
Do not assume one country’s warranty applies to your purchase. Confirm it on your local Kyocera page and with the retailer, and keep proof of purchase.

What the specifications cannot tell you
Manufacturer specifications answer questions about features, paper support, dimensions and consumables. They do not answer the questions that usually decide whether a printer works well in daily use:
- Print quality on text, photographs, logos and gradients, and how well the color matches a reference.
- Noise during printing and at idle, which matters in a shared room.
- Setup difficulty, driver behaviour and reliability of Wi-Fi connections over time.
- Actual running cost, including toner use, paper, and whether duplex jobs are configured by default.
- Long-term reliability and how the paper path handles mixed media.
Independent print samples and measured running costs are the evidence you need for those points. None are established in the sources behind this article.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the Kyocera product page for your country and use its speed, paper and warranty figures.
- Match the toner code to your market, and check its local price and yield before comparing cartridge costs.
- If you need more than 300 sheets, confirm that the PF-5110 is sold and supported in your market.
- Check that your paper weight falls within 60 to 120 g/m² for duplex printing.
- Check your network: Wi-Fi band, Wi-Fi Direct needs, and whether you need wired Ethernet or USB.
- Measure the 410 × 410 mm footprint and the 329 mm height against your space.
The Bottom Line
On paper, the PA2101cwx covers what most home-office and small-office buyers ask first: color output, automatic duplex, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct, and 300 sheets of standard paper capacity. The details that differ by market, including speed, toner code and warranty, should be checked against your local Kyocera page before you buy. Whether the printer performs well in your setup is a question the manufacturer’s listings cannot answer.
