Remove the lock from the app and from the phone’s Bluetooth list before resetting. This matters because access codes and event history may remain visible in the app until you delete the lock from the home, even though the factory reset removes them from the lock. Kwikset identifies changing ownership, losing the phone, and troubleshooting a new installation as reasons to factory-reset. Its troubleshooting guide also recommends a factory reset and reactivation when changing the lock’s Wi-Fi network.

Wait while auto-handing runs. The latch retracts and extends to learn the door orientation. Kwikset says this movement confirms that the factory reset is complete; the LED flashes green if auto-handing succeeds and red if it fails.

What a factory reset removes
Kwikset says a factory reset removes Bluetooth pairings, Wi-Fi network settings, user associations, access codes, and event history from the lock. It also resets lock settings, including handing. Because the app may continue to show access codes and event history until the lock is deleted from the home, removing the app entry is a separate preparation step—not a substitute for resetting the lock.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Factory reset or network reset?
A network reset is a narrower, separate procedure. Kwikset describes it for Halo, Halo Touch, and Aura: hold the A button for 10 seconds, then confirm with the Program button within 10 seconds. It resets Bluetooth pairings, Wi-Fi settings, and user associations. The factory reset additionally removes access codes and event history and resets lock settings, including handing. Check the instructions for your exact model before choosing either procedure.
