Kraken is usually cheaper for withdrawing euros, while Coinbase is simpler on published SEPA pricing. Both support euro transfers through SEPA, but the route, processor, fee, limit and settlement speed shown in your account can vary by country and verification level. Kraken lists free SEPA deposits (minimum €1), €0.90–€1 withdrawal fees and options that can be instant or take up to five business days. Coinbase says it charges no Coinbase fee for SEPA deposits or withdrawals, with typical processing of one to three business days. Your in-account funding screen is the final authority before you send money.
Kraken vs Coinbase at a glance
For a European user moving euros between a bank account and a crypto exchange, the practical choice depends on which matters most: the lowest published withdrawal cost, predictable timing, a simple bank-verification flow or a higher stated fiat limit.

| EUR deposit minimum | €1 on listed SEPA methods | No minimum stated in the cited Coinbase guidance; follow the amount shown in your account |
| Typical deposit timing | Zero to three business days, or instant on supported methods | Typically one to three business days |
| EUR withdrawal fee | €0.90 or €1 on listed methods | No fee for the SEPA withdrawal method |
| Typical withdrawal timing | Zero to five business days, or near-instant on supported Instant SEPA routes | Typically one to three business days |
| Bank verification | Limits depend on verification level, country and processor | A successful SEPA deposit is required to verify a bank account before withdrawal |
| Published limit guidance | Account-specific limits based on verification and the selected processor | €100,000 per day is the default fiat-withdrawal limit on Coinbase Exchange; EUR SEPA deposits are listed as unlimited |
Those figures are current support guidance accessed in 2026. They are not a promise that every European account will see the same route. SEPA participation, local compliance rules, banking relationships and your verification status can change the options presented at checkout.
What SEPA means for your euro transfer
The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is the bank-transfer network used for euro payments across participating European countries. It is the common rail offered by both exchanges for adding and removing EUR. A SEPA transfer is different from a card payment: you initiate it from your bank using the beneficiary details and reference supplied by the exchange.

- Protect your signer: keep it in mint condition at all times with a bespoke Pod or Case to avoid scratches and everyday wear and tear.
Kraken Support states that a bank account within SEPA may use any of the SEPA deposit methods available to that account. Its support tables list multiple processors, including Bank Frick, Banking Circle, Openpayd, Plaid and Ivy. Not every processor is available in every country or to every customer. Coinbase presents its own SEPA beneficiary details and requires the payment reference to associate the incoming transfer with your account.
- Use a bank account in your own name. A third-party transfer can be held or returned.
- Send euros, not another currency that your bank might convert before reaching the exchange.
- Copy the beneficiary name, IBAN and reference exactly as displayed in the exchange.
- Check the route immediately before sending; processors and instructions can change.
Which exchange is cheaper for depositing euros?
Kraken deposits
Kraken’s listed SEPA deposit methods are free and show a €1 minimum. Some methods are marked as instant; others are estimated at zero to three business days. “Free” refers to the exchange-listed deposit fee. Your bank could still charge for a transfer, currency conversion or an intermediary service, so inspect your bank’s tariff as well.
Coinbase deposits
Coinbase Help says, “There is no fee charged by Coinbase for SEPA deposits.” Its current guidance gives a typical one-to-three-business-day completion window. Coinbase’s cited page does not state a universal minimum deposit, so the amount and any account-specific instruction shown in your funding screen should control.
Deposit decision
If both accounts offer a free route, the exchange fee does not distinguish them. Kraken may be faster when an instant SEPA method is available; Coinbase provides a clearer published one-to-three-business-day expectation. Compare the bank’s outbound fee and the exact beneficiary route, not just the exchange’s headline price.

Which exchange is cheaper for withdrawing euros?
Kraken withdrawals
Kraken’s listed EUR withdrawal methods show a fee of either €0.90 or €1, depending on the processor and route. Published completion estimates range from zero to five business days, with near-instant processing on supported Instant SEPA routes. The fee is normally displayed before confirmation; verify it in your account because the available route can differ by country.
Coinbase withdrawals
Coinbase states that it charges no fee for SEPA withdrawals. Its Help guidance says withdrawals typically take one to three business days. “No Coinbase fee” does not rule out a charge from your receiving bank or a conversion cost if the destination account is not configured to receive euros.
Withdrawal decision
On the published exchange fees alone, Coinbase is cheaper for a standard SEPA withdrawal. Kraken can still be preferable when your account offers a near-instant route and speed is worth the small €0.90–€1 charge, or when Coinbase’s route is temporarily unavailable.
How long will a SEPA transfer take?
Business-day estimates exclude weekends and bank holidays, and the clock may not start until the exchange receives a correctly identified payment. A bank’s cut-off time can move a transfer to the next business day.

| Transfer | Kraken published estimate | Coinbase published estimate |
|---|---|---|
| EUR deposit | Zero to three business days, or instant, depending on method | Typically one to three business days |
| EUR withdrawal | Zero to five business days, or near-instant on supported Instant SEPA routes | Typically one to three business days |
An “instant” label applies only to a supported instant-payment route and a bank that can receive it. It is not a guarantee that every transfer or every amount will settle immediately. If your account shows a standard route, use that route’s estimate rather than the fastest figure advertised for another processor.
Verification, limits and bank-account rules
Kraken
Kraken ties funding limits to your verification level and also varies them by country and processor. The support tables do not provide one universal European limit. A higher verification tier may be needed for larger transfers, and an otherwise eligible SEPA route may disappear if your account or region does not qualify. The exact deposit and withdrawal ceilings shown after you sign in are therefore more useful than a generic number.
Coinbase
Coinbase requires a successful SEPA deposit before a bank account is verified for withdrawals. This means a newly added account may be able to receive funds only after you complete an initial deposit and Coinbase matches it. Coinbase’s current limits guidance lists a default €100,000-per-day fiat-withdrawal limit on Coinbase Exchange and lists EUR SEPA deposits as unlimited. Those are platform-level defaults, not a guarantee that your personal account will have the same limit.
Name and reference matching
Coinbase warns that the bank-account name and payment reference must be correct; mismatches can delay a deposit. The same operational rule is sensible on Kraken: use an account that matches your verified identity and include the exact reference. Do not reuse old beneficiary details after the exchange changes its banking partner.

How to deposit euros into Kraken
- Open the funding screen. Sign in, choose the option to deposit funds, select EUR and then select a SEPA method available to your account.
- Review the route. Note the processor name, minimum (listed Kraken SEPA methods show €1), fee, estimated arrival and any stated limit. Choose an instant route only if your bank supports it and the displayed terms suit you.
- Copy the bank details. Record the beneficiary name, IBAN and any reference or message exactly as shown. Do not type a reference from an earlier deposit.
- Initiate the transfer at your bank. Send euros from an account in your own name. Keep the amount at or above the displayed minimum and account for any bank fee.
- Wait for crediting. Standard routes can take zero to three business days; an instant route may credit sooner. Check the deposit status before contacting support.
If the transfer is returned, first compare the beneficiary, IBAN, currency and reference with the current Kraken instructions. A return can also indicate that the processor is not available for your country or that the sending account name does not match.
How to deposit euros into Coinbase
- Choose EUR and SEPA. In Coinbase’s cash-funding area, select EUR and the SEPA deposit option to display the current beneficiary details.
- Copy every required field. Use the exact IBAN, beneficiary name and personal reference. Coinbase uses the reference to match the transfer to your account.
- Send a verification deposit. Coinbase requires a completed SEPA deposit before the bank account can be verified for withdrawals. Make the transfer from an account held in the same name as your Coinbase account.
- Allow the normal window. Coinbase says SEPA deposits typically take one to three business days. A weekend, bank holiday, incorrect reference or name mismatch can extend that period.
- Confirm the bank account. Once Coinbase credits the deposit and verifies the account, the SEPA withdrawal option should become available for that bank account, subject to your account limits.
How to withdraw euros to a European bank account
Kraken withdrawal procedure
- Open the withdrawal screen, select EUR and choose a SEPA or Instant SEPA route offered for your account.
- Select a previously verified bank account or add one using the exact holder details requested.
- Enter the amount and inspect the displayed €0.90 or €1 fee, estimated arrival and remaining limit.
- Confirm the withdrawal and complete any security challenge. Track the status in the account before submitting a duplicate request.
Kraken’s listed estimates run from zero to five business days, with near-instant delivery only on supported Instant SEPA routes. A route that is free for deposits can have a separate withdrawal fee.
Coinbase withdrawal procedure
- Complete at least one successful SEPA deposit to verify the bank account, if you have not already done so.
- Open the EUR cash-withdrawal screen and select the verified SEPA bank account.
- Enter an amount within the limit shown for your account. Coinbase’s cited default Exchange limit is €100,000 per day, but your displayed limit controls.
- Review the beneficiary, amount and fee, then confirm. Coinbase states that SEPA withdrawals typically take one to three business days.
Country, processor and account differences
There is no single country-by-country promise covering every European customer. SEPA membership alone does not guarantee that a particular processor or instant route will be available. The exchange may use different banking partners, apply additional compliance checks or show different limits for the same country.
- Country: Your residence and the location of the bank can determine which processor appears.
- Verification: Incomplete identity checks can reduce limits or hide funding methods.
- Bank capability: Instant SEPA requires participation by the receiving and sending banks; ordinary SEPA remains available where instant is not.
- Currency setup: A euro-denominated account avoids an avoidable conversion and makes the beneficiary details easier to reconcile.
- Compliance review: A transfer can be paused while the exchange or bank requests source-of-funds or identity information.
Before sending a large amount, perform a small test transfer using the same route. This confirms that the beneficiary details, reference and name matching work without putting the full balance at risk.

What to do when a transfer is late or missing
The deposit has not appeared
- Check whether the normal estimate has elapsed in business days, excluding weekends and holidays.
- Compare the bank’s transaction record with the exchange’s current IBAN, beneficiary and reference.
- Confirm that the transfer was sent in EUR and from an account in your own name.
- Look for a returned payment, compliance request or status message in both services.
- Have the bank confirmation, amount, date, reference and sending IBAN ready before contacting support.
The withdrawal is pending
- Check whether the destination bank accepts the selected SEPA route and whether its account details are current.
- Review the withdrawal status and do not submit a second request unless support tells you to.
- Confirm that you have completed any required bank verification, especially Coinbase’s initial SEPA-deposit requirement.
- If the published window has passed, contact the exchange with the withdrawal ID and ask whether the payment was rejected, returned or held for review.
The fee or limit changed
Do not rely on an old screenshot or a fee quoted by another user. Return to the signed-in funding screen and record the route, fee, minimum, maximum and arrival estimate shown immediately before confirmation. Processor contracts and regional rules can change without the same option being removed everywhere.
Which should you choose?
Choose Kraken when
- You want a potentially instant euro deposit or near-instant withdrawal and your account shows a supported route.
- A €0.90–€1 withdrawal fee is acceptable in exchange for speed or a route that suits your bank.
- You are comfortable checking processor-specific limits and instructions before every transfer.
Choose Coinbase when
- Your priority is no stated Coinbase fee for both SEPA deposits and withdrawals.
- A one-to-three-business-day typical window is acceptable.
- You prefer a documented bank-verification sequence: make a successful SEPA deposit, then withdraw to that verified account.
- Your expected withdrawals fit the displayed limit; the cited Coinbase Exchange default is €100,000 per day.
Use both only with a clear reason
Maintaining accounts at both exchanges can provide a fallback if one processor is unavailable, but it also creates two sets of identity checks, bank references and transaction records. Keep a record of the exchange, date, EUR amount, fee, bank reference and destination for each transfer so your bank reconciliation and tax records remain complete.
Before you confirm any euro transfer
- Is the method explicitly SEPA, and is it available for your country and account?
- What fee, minimum, maximum and estimated settlement time are displayed right now?
- Does the bank account holder name match your verified exchange identity?
- Have you copied the current IBAN, beneficiary and reference rather than relying on saved details?
- For Coinbase withdrawals, has the account completed a successful SEPA deposit?
- For Kraken, does the selected processor support the amount and speed you need?
- Are weekends, bank holidays, bank cut-off times or compliance checks likely to affect the estimate?
On the published 2026 terms, Coinbase has the lower stated withdrawal cost, while Kraken offers more variation in speed and processor choice. The best route for a particular European bank account is the one displayed after you sign in, because that screen incorporates your country, verification level and currently available payment processor.
