In an interview published by Famitsu on August 28, 2026, producer Tsutomu Taniguchi said the series’ future direction had not been decided. He also argued that waiting ten years for another game would make the effort meaningless and said he wanted Castlevania’s momentum to continue in some form.
What Konami actually said about Castlevania’s future
Taniguchi’s comments point to an intention to keep Castlevania moving, not a confirmed sequel or release plan. Asked about the future, he said the team was concentrating on Belmont’s Curse and had not settled on the series’ specific direction.

Nintendo Everything’s October 3, 2026 English translation of the Famitsu interview renders his remarks this way: “So with the release of this game I thought, ‘Phew… we did it’, but if we said, ‘Okay, the next game will be out in ten years’, the whole thing is meaningless. Although, I still don’t know what shape that will take.” The original interview was published in Japanese by Famitsu; the English wording is from Nintendo Everything’s translation.
The distinction matters: Taniguchi did not confirm a next title, name a developer or partner for another project, or give a timetable. His comment is an expression of intent to maintain momentum while the form of any future Castlevania project remains open.

Why Taniguchi says the series needs momentum
Taniguchi said Belmont’s Curse began partly from a sense of urgency: in his view, fewer people were actually playing Castlevania, while more people recognized the name without having played a game. That is his qualitative explanation, not a published audience study or quantified player trend.
For Belmont’s Curse, the team includes Evil Empire, KONAMI and Motion Twin, with Taniguchi serving as Konami Digital Entertainment’s producer, according to Famitsu. Evil Empire marketing director Bérenger Dupré said the game’s medieval Paris setting lets the developers contrast sacred places with the demonic castle. He also joked that, as a French developer, he wanted to destroy Paris. Taniguchi praised artist Katsuya Terada’s style for bringing the project both freshness and a sense of history.

The development team has also highlighted the whip as a defining appeal for Castlevania and Dead Cells players. Dupré said it can do more than attack. Those details describe the current game’s design; they do not establish what a follow-up might be.

For now, there is no announced Castlevania game beyond Belmont’s Curse to track for a title, platform, or date. Taniguchi’s remarks make a long pause sound contrary to his preferred direction, but they do not guarantee when—or in what form—the franchise will return after this release. The concrete next step described by Konami is Belmont’s Curse itself.
