There is no official universal ruby reserve or objectively best fighter. The right decision depends on your account, the featured fighter and how much of the event you can realistically complete before it resets.
The short answer: wait for a banner that fits your account
Rubies are most valuable when they are converted into a clearly defined improvement rather than scattered across whatever summon happens to be visible. A good spend has three parts: a featured fighter you genuinely need or want, published rates and rewards you have checked in the live event screen, and enough time and currency to reach a worthwhile point on that event’s reward track.

Do not treat a large balance as a reason to pull immediately. Official information does not establish a permanent ruby target, a guaranteed best fighter or a normal monthly income that would justify one. Team roles, existing duplicates, summon level and personal collection priorities all change the answer.
Recommended Free Tools
If none of the current banners meets those conditions, saving is the rational action. Waiting preserves flexibility for a pickup event whose target fills a missing role, upgrades a core fighter or completes a collection objective. When a suitable event appears, use the checklist below instead of relying on a headline reward or a remembered promotion.
How ruby spending works in a Pickup Summon
Ruby and event-token payment can be event-specific
In the official Halloween Pickup-Summon notice reviewed, the event accepted either rubies or Halloween Fighter Tokens. The notice states: "Rubies or Halloween Fighter Tokens can be used to perform Pick-Up Summons." It also specifies that Halloween Fighter Tokens are consumed before rubies. That order belongs to that event; another banner may use a different token, payment order or no token at all. Read the currency panel on every event before confirming a summon.
Summon count drives cumulative rewards
The same notice ties cumulative rewards to the number of summons performed. A reward is therefore not simply a bonus for owning rubies; it is attached to a count that must be reached during the event. Before pulling, identify the count for the reward you actually value and compare it with your available rubies, event tokens and remaining days.

- A total of 39 characters are participating - Classic popular characters, revived characters, new characters, and more
- The latest KOF Saga continues from the previous title in Story Mode
- The culmination of the series' battle system: Inheriting the series' traditional 3-on-3 team battle, KOF XV also features a new system
- Includes a Gallery with movies and voices, and a new DJ STATION with over 300 popular songs from the KOF series and more
Rates can change with summon level
The notice warns that fighter summon rates vary by summon level and directs players to the Rate Info panel in the event screen. Do not copy a rate from a screenshot, an older event or another account. Open Rate Info on the banner you intend to use and check the level that applies to your account at the moment you summon.
Events reset when they end
Cumulative reward opportunities and the event summon count reset at the end of the event described in the notice. Treat the end time as a hard deadline: a partially completed track should not be assumed to carry into the next Pickup Summon. Save a screenshot or note of the displayed deadline if you are planning pulls over several days.
A six-step framework for deciding whether to spend
- Define the goal. Decide whether you are filling a gameplay need, pursuing a favorite fighter or collecting a particular theme. A goal such as “improve my team” is too broad; identify the role, element or fighter that would actually change your lineup. Official sources do not name one universally superior target.
- Open the live event notice. Confirm the featured fighter, summon type, event dates, eligibility conditions and currencies shown in the current game. Forum headlines can identify an event but cannot substitute for its detail screen.
- Read Rate Info at your summon level. Record the featured-fighter rate, other featured entries, pity or guarantee language if displayed, and any change that occurs as your Fighter Summon Level rises. Rates are not safely inferred from another banner.
- Map the reward track. Find each cumulative milestone and mark the first reward that would justify your plan. Compare its required summon count with your resources and the time left. If you cannot reach a meaningful milestone, a smaller number of speculative pulls may have poor value.
- Apply the currency order. If the event explicitly consumes tokens before rubies, let those tokens reduce the ruby cost. Verify the token name and expiration because the Halloween notice’s token rule is not a standing game-wide rule.
- Set a stop point. Decide in advance whether you will stop after obtaining the target, after reaching a milestone or when the planned budget is exhausted. A missed early pull is not evidence that the next pull is more likely to succeed unless the event’s published rules say so.
What to inspect on the banner before spending
| Check | Where to find it | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Featured target | Pickup Summon event screen and notice | Determines whether the banner addresses your roster gap or collection goal. |
| Rates by summon level | Rate Info panel | The official notice says rates vary by summon level, so a rate from another level may not apply. |
| Cumulative milestones | Reward or summon-count panel | Shows how many summons are needed for rewards and whether your budget can reach one. |
| Payment currencies | Summon confirmation window | Some events accept a special token as well as rubies; the token may be consumed first. |
| End date and reset rule | Event notice and timer | Summon counts and cumulative rewards in the reviewed event reset when it ends. |
| Eligibility | Event details and in-game prompts | Server, account or progression requirements can prevent access even when an event is listed publicly. |
If any of these fields is missing from the screen you can access, pause and look for the complete notice or in-game Rate Info. A public event title alone does not establish its cost, rates, milestones or eligibility.
When spending now makes sense
You have a defined roster need
Spend when the featured fighter supplies a role your current team cannot perform reliably and the event terms are favorable for your resources. “Favorable” means the target and milestones are visible, the applicable rate is understood and the required count is reachable before the deadline. This is an account-specific judgment, not a ranking that applies to every player.
You can reach a meaningful milestone
A banner may be worth using when your existing tokens and rubies together reach a milestone that contains the reward you want. Calculate with the payment order shown by the event. If tokens are consumed first, subtract those summons from the ruby portion rather than budgeting as though every summon costs rubies.
You are intentionally collecting
Collection goals are legitimate even when a fighter is not the largest gameplay upgrade. Set the target in advance and accept that collection value is personal. Use the same rate, deadline and milestone checks as a competitive player; a favorite fighter does not make unknown terms safer.
When saving is the better move
The target duplicates a strong fighter you already own
If the featured fighter adds no needed role, upgrade or collection value, the opportunity cost is high. Keep the rubies available for a future pickup whose target changes your roster more materially.

You cannot reach the event’s useful threshold
The official notice confirms cumulative rewards but does not provide a general October threshold. If the live event requires more summons than your resources can cover, do not invent a stopping number from another event. Either save or spend only an amount you are comfortable treating as a chance at the target without milestone value.
The terms are unclear or the deadline is too close
Unknown rates, uncertain eligibility or insufficient time to read the notice are reasons to wait. A forum listing can signal that an event exists, but it does not prove its current costs or rewards.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Premium Summon and shop routes are separate decisions
Netmarble’s Premium Summon guidance describes a different system from an ordinary limited Pickup Summon. Premium Summon unlocks at Fighter Summon Level 5, uses a special currency and allows the player to choose a pickup target. The guidance also names the League Shop and Ranking Event Exchange Shop as places to find certain Orochi Fighters.
Because Premium Summon uses special currency, do not assume that rubies can be exchanged for it at a fixed rate or that a ruby spent on a Pickup Summon has the same value as a shop purchase. The available guidance does not provide a direct ruby-to-premium-currency conversion. Compare the systems by asking which one advances your goal with the resources you actually possess:
- Pickup Summon: evaluate the live target, Rate Info, summon-level rate, milestone count and deadline.
- Premium Summon: first verify that Fighter Summon Level 5 is unlocked, then check the selectable target and your special-currency balance.
- League Shop or Ranking Event Exchange Shop: check whether the fighter you want is currently listed, the exchange cost and any refresh or eligibility rule shown in game.
These routes can complement one another, but their currencies and availability are not interchangeable. A shop listing for an Orochi Fighter does not establish that the same fighter is the best use of rubies on a current banner.
How to use event tokens without wasting rubies
Start by reading the payment order in the event window. In the reviewed Halloween event, Halloween Fighter Tokens were consumed before rubies. If your account has tokens, the game should apply them first under that event’s rules, reducing the ruby balance used for the same summon count.

- Genre: Fighting
- ESRB Rating: Teen
Check three details before relying on tokens:
- Whether the token belongs to the current event rather than a past banner.
- Whether tokens expire, disappear or become unusable when the event ends.
- Whether the event counts token-funded summons toward the same cumulative milestones as ruby-funded summons.
Only the event’s own notice can answer those questions. Do not assume the Halloween token name, consumption order or reset behavior applies to a later Pickup Summon.
Summon level changes how you read the rates
Fighter Summon Level is not merely a cosmetic account statistic when the event says rates vary by level. Open the banner’s Rate Info after noting your current level, and read the row or section that applies to that level. If the event shows multiple levels, compare the featured-fighter rate and the composition of the remaining pool rather than looking only at the headline percentage.
Keep a record of the level at which you started. If a summon raises your level, re-open Rate Info before continuing; the applicable rates may have changed. This is especially important when planning a milestone over several sessions, because an assumption made at the first pull may not describe the later pulls.
October 2026 availability: what the public notices do and do not tell you
The official forum listing observed on October 13, 2026 shows October event notices, including an October 1 update and entries for Rugal Bernstein and Zero dated September 30. The listing establishes that these notices were present; it does not establish their current ruby costs, rates, milestone counts, token rules or account eligibility.

Use the listing as a pointer, then open the matching in-game event and its Rate Info panel. If the detail page and game screen disagree, treat the live account-facing terms as the practical authority and avoid spending until the discrepancy is clear. Server timing can also make an event visible to one player while another account has a different end time or eligibility state.
Why the 500,000-ruby anniversary gift should not set your budget
Netmarble announced a 500,000-ruby first-anniversary thank-you gift on August 20, 2026, alongside temporary Ruby BACK and summon promotions. The announcement identified Fighters Festa as running from August 20 through September 16. Those dates make the offer historical context, not a standing source of October ruby income.

- Nostalgic characters from the SNK Universe.
- Hone your skills and strategy with your favorite strikers.

Do not plan a monthly spending rate from that one-time gift, and do not assume a Ruby BACK promotion is permanent. When a new promotion appears, read its dates, eligibility and return conditions in the current notice before counting it toward a summon budget.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical budgeting method without a universal ruby target
Because no official source establishes an optimal reserve, use a two-bucket plan rather than a fixed number:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Committed-event budget: the rubies you are willing to use on the currently evaluated banner after identifying its target, rate and reachable milestone.
- Flexibility reserve: the rubies you keep untouched so an unexpected pickup, Premium Summon opportunity or personal favorite remains possible.
The proportion is personal. A player chasing one announced target may commit more than a collector waiting for a specific theme. The important control is deciding the split before the first pull, not after an unlucky sequence.
Write down the event end time, the desired milestone count, your token balance, your ruby balance and the maximum number of summons you can fund. If the arithmetic does not reach the milestone, classify the plan as a target-only gamble and decide whether that uncertainty is acceptable. Never label an unreachable milestone as guaranteed progress.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Following a universal “save X rubies” rule
No reviewed official source supplies such a number. Replace it with the live event’s required summon count and your own reserve policy.

Using an old rate screenshot
Rates may vary by summon level and event. Reopen Rate Info on the current banner and level before spending.
Assuming every token works like Halloween Fighter Tokens
The Halloween notice consumed those tokens before rubies, but another event may use a different currency or order. Verify the current payment panel.
Reading a forum title as a complete offer
The October listing names notices but does not provide costs, rates, milestones or eligibility. Open the event detail and in-game screen.
Chasing losses
A previous unsuccessful summon does not by itself change the next outcome. Continue only when the remaining plan still meets your predefined goal and budget.
Spending because a temporary giveaway was large
The 500,000-ruby anniversary gift and Ruby BACK promotions were tied to a dated anniversary period. Historical generosity is not evidence of normal future income.
Decision examples using the framework
Example: a reachable milestone and a needed target
You identify a featured fighter that fills a missing role. The event screen shows the applicable Rate Info, a cumulative reward you value and an end date far enough away to complete the required count. Your event tokens are consumed first, and the combined token and ruby balance reaches that count. This is a rational time to spend, provided the maximum budget is set before summoning.
Example: a favorite target but no milestone budget
You want the featured fighter for collection reasons, but your resources cannot reach the first meaningful cumulative reward. You can still choose a limited target-only spend, but describe it accurately: the milestone is not reachable, and the result depends on the displayed chance. If that uncertainty conflicts with your reserve goal, save instead.
Example: a public notice with incomplete terms
A forum entry names a new fighter, but the detail page you can access does not show current costs or Rate Info. Do not infer them from the prior banner. Wait for the complete in-game terms or a clear official notice before committing rubies.
Final checklist before tapping Summon
- Is the featured fighter a defined roster, upgrade or collection goal?
- Did you read the current event notice rather than rely on a headline?
- Did you open Rate Info for your actual summon level?
- Do you know the cumulative count for the reward you want?
- Can your tokens and rubies reach that count before the displayed deadline?
- Did you verify which currency is consumed first?
- Did you confirm eligibility on your account and server?
- Have you set a maximum spend and a stopping point?
- Will you still have a flexibility reserve afterward?
If any answer is no, saving is usually safer than guessing. Once every answer is yes, spend according to the written plan and the live event terms, not according to a universal ruby number or a past promotion.
