The safest beginner plan is to build your account with the summons and rewards currently available, unlock Premium Summon at Fighter Summon Level 5, and spend only after checking the live target, cost, reward pool, and probability panel. Fighter and Photo Card summons earn Premium Points; Premium Summon can provide higher-tier growth materials and attribute DNA used by the Link system.
KOF AFK is a pixel-art mobile RPG built around AFK rewards and strategic five-versus-five battles. Your formation, position, upgrade materials, summon choices, and event timing all matter, but the current client—not an old banner recommendation—must be the final authority because notices, pools, prices, and availability rotate.
What KOF AFK asks you to manage
Netmarble describes The King of Fighters AFK as a pixel-art RPG in which Fighters continue earning progress while you are away. You then assemble a five-Fighter team, position it, collect rewards, and use the resulting materials to push through battles. The game’s official listing and publisher guidance present team composition and placement as meaningful strategic choices, not as a system with one permanently correct formation.

The AFK loop
AFK rewards are the baseline flow of the account. Claim what has accumulated, use it to strengthen the roster, and attempt the next available progression content. The exact reward rate, storage limit, and reset behavior are not established in the published material available for this guide, so read the timer and claim screen in your own client instead of relying on a fixed schedule.
Why formation is part of progression
Five-versus-five combat means a new Fighter is not automatically useful in every lineup. Positioning changes who is exposed first and how your team interacts with the enemies in a stage. When a battle fails, try changing positions and comparing the enemy preview with your own team before spending scarce materials. The game does not publish a universal best team that applies to every account, mode, or patch.

The currency and material map
The official guides do not provide a complete, current glossary with every earning rate or daily allowance. The following map covers the resources and relationships that are explicitly described, while separating progression meters from items you can actually spend.
| Resource or system | What is established | Beginner decision |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Points | Fighter and Photo Card summons earn Premium Points. | Track the meter toward Premium Summon access; do not assume the points are a freely spendable currency unless your current UI says so. |
| Fighter Summon Level | Premium Summon unlocks when Fighter Summon Level reaches 5. | Check the level before planning a Premium pull. The guide does not establish a different regional threshold. |
| Fighter Origin | Fighter, Pick-Up Fighter, and Synergy Fighter summons can provide Fighter Origin. | Keep enough Origin for a Link only after confirming that the duplicate and DNA requirements match your plan. |
| Solar, Lunar, and Stellar DNA | These are listed as Premium Summon rewards and are used for attribute-matched Links. | Match the DNA attribute to the Fighter shown in the Link screen; an attractive duplicate without the required DNA may not advance the plan. |
| Fuel, Cushions, Tarot Cards, and Souls | They are among the growth materials listed as possible Premium Summon rewards. | Inspect each item’s current description and upgrade destination before treating it as a reason to summon. |
| Fighter-related tokens | The Premium Summon guide lists Fighter-related tokens among possible rewards. | Read the exchange or upgrade screen in the live client; the available use and value can change with updates. |
| Supporter/Pet summon boxes | These are included in the guide’s list of possible Premium Summon rewards. | Consider whether the box helps your present team or only a future collection before committing resources. |
Do not turn a reward category into a guaranteed drop. The September 15, 2025 CM Athena Premium Summon and Link guide describes possible rewards, but it is not a promise that every current banner contains the same pool or odds.

Fighter and Photo Card summons
Both Fighter summons and Photo Card summons contribute Premium Points. Fighter summons also sit in the resource chain that can produce Fighter Origin. Because the available material does not establish current prices, pity rules, or exact rates, record those values from the summon-detail panel immediately before pressing the button.
Premium Summon
Premium Summon becomes available at Fighter Summon Level 5. You can select a pickup target, and the official guide says that the selected target can be changed. That flexibility is useful, but it does not make every target equally valuable: compare the target with your current five-Fighter team, the duplicates you already own, your available matching DNA, and the reward pool shown in the live screen.
Photo Cards are part of the same progression conversation
Photo Card summons are not merely a separate collection activity if your immediate objective is reaching Premium Summon access, because they also earn Premium Points. Whether they are the right use of a particular resource depends on the current cost and the improvement your team receives; no source establishes a permanent priority between Fighter and Photo Card summons.

A safe summon procedure for a new account
- Open the summon details first. Record the current cost, displayed probability, available rewards, pickup target, and any one-time or event restrictions. The publisher identifies probability-based items and paid items, so never infer an odds table from an old screenshot.
- Check Fighter Summon Level. If it is below 5, decide whether the summon also advances the team or Photo Card collection you actually use. If it is already 5 or higher, compare Premium Summon with the ordinary banner rather than spending automatically.
- Choose a target that solves a problem. A target that completes a needed role, improves the present formation, or fits a Link plan is easier to justify than a target selected only because it is featured.
- Verify the pickup selection. Confirm the selected Fighter on the final confirmation screen. Because the target can be changed, revisit it whenever your roster or the banner changes.
- Review the result against your plan. Note the Fighter, Photo Card, Origin, DNA, and growth materials received. Update your Link requirements and formation rather than immediately spending every new item.
- Stop when the next pull no longer has a clear job. The game does not establish a universal saving threshold, so use the live cost, odds, and your account’s next upgrade as the stopping rule.
Understanding Link before spending DNA
Link creates a duplicate Fighter by combining Fighter Origin with DNA that matches the Fighter’s attribute. The system is therefore more demanding than simply obtaining another copy. Fighter Origin can come from Fighter, Pick-Up Fighter, and Synergy Fighter summons, while Solar, Lunar, and Stellar DNA are described as Premium Summon rewards.

- Open the Fighter’s Link screen and identify the required attribute.
- Confirm that you have the correct Solar, Lunar, or Stellar DNA rather than a different attribute.
- Check the Fighter Origin requirement and whether the duplicate condition is satisfied.
- Read the next-cost preview before confirming. The official guide warns that every completed Link raises the material cost for the next attempt.
- Keep a reserve for the next planned Link if the increasing cost would otherwise halt your main team.
Because later Links cost more, spending Origin or DNA on an unrelated upgrade can delay a carefully planned duplicate. Conversely, hoarding indefinitely can leave your current team underpowered. Use the Link screen, not a generic rarity rule, to decide when the exchange is worthwhile.
The daily progression routine
There is no published, complete daily checklist with a single reset time. A practical routine can still be built from the systems Netmarble describes. Treat it as an order of operations, then adapt it to the modes and events currently visible in your account.
| Order | Action | What to inspect | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Collect AFK rewards | Accumulated rewards, timer, storage or claim warning | These materials fund routine Fighter upgrades and prevent unattended progress from sitting unclaimed. |
| 2 | Check the main progression screen | Current stage, enemy preview, available upgrade prompts | It shows the next account gate and whether a small team improvement may unlock more AFK income. |
| 3 | Review challenge modes | Infinity, Arcade, and World Boss availability; displayed rewards and entry conditions | Challenge rewards can supply progress outside the main stage route. |
| 4 | Adjust the formation | Enemy positions, your frontline, and any stage-specific effect | Placement is part of the battle calculation, so a formation change may be more efficient than random upgrades. |
| 5 | Open event and summon notices | End dates, current pickup, limited currencies, and claim buttons | Official notices rotate, and an old recommendation may no longer apply. |
| 6 | Spend only on the next identified upgrade | Required Fuel, Cushions, Tarot Cards, Souls, tokens, Origin, or DNA | Directed spending keeps the active team moving without consuming Link materials accidentally. |
First login after being away
- Claim AFK rewards and read any overflow or expiry message.
- Look at the main stage and note whether the next battle is blocked by team strength, a mechanic, or an unavailable unlock.
- Open each currently available challenge and record its displayed reward before attempting it.
- Check notices and event screens for a deadline. Claiming an event reward can be more urgent than starting another summon.
- Spend materials on the smallest upgrade that changes the next battle, then retry with a deliberate formation.
Challenge modes and how to use them
Infinity Challenge
Netmarble’s challenge tips say each Infinity stage has unique buffs. The screen shows the current floor, upcoming enemies, and available rewards. Read all three before committing a team: a buff may favor a different Fighter order, and the upcoming enemy preview can reveal why a familiar formation is failing.
When stuck, compare the current floor’s effect with your team, reposition the five Fighters, and try again before spending rare materials. The guide does not establish a universal floor schedule, reward table, or repeat rule, so rely on the stage screen for the current run.
Recommended Free Tools
Arcade Challenge
Arcade Challenge is a distinct mode in the official challenge overview. Open it when available, inspect its own displayed objective and reward, and decide whether the team requirement fits your current roster. Do not assume that a team that clears the main route is automatically optimal for Arcade.
World Boss Challenge
World Boss Challenge is also officially identified, but the accessible guidance does not provide a complete current timetable, scoring formula, or reward ranking. Treat the live entry screen as authoritative for availability and requirements. If the mode is time-limited, prioritize its deadline over an evergreen attempt that can be made later.
Choosing between summon options
The table below is a decision framework, not a claim that one banner wins for every account. Fill in the values shown by the current client.
| Option | What it can advance | Check before summoning | Usually makes sense when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fighter summon | Fighter roster, Premium Points, and potentially Fighter Origin | Current cost, Fighter pool, duplicate value, displayed probability | You need a roster improvement and the summon also moves you toward Premium Summon Level 5. |
| Pick-Up Fighter summon | A featured Fighter and potentially Fighter Origin | Pickup identity, end date, target usefulness, duplicate requirements | The featured Fighter fills a role your active formation lacks or fits a known Link plan. |
| Synergy Fighter summon | Its listed Fighter pool and potentially Fighter Origin | Current synergy rules, cost, target pool, and reward detail | The available synergy improves the team you can field now, not only a future collection. |
| Photo Card summon | Photo Cards and Premium Points | Card effect, cost, probability, and whether the card changes your next battle | A card upgrade is more valuable to your present bottleneck than another Fighter attempt. |
| Premium Summon | Pickup Fighter plus possible Supporter/Pet boxes, a Legendary Fighter Summon Ticket, DNA, and growth materials listed by the guide | Fighter Summon Level 5 access, selected target, live pool, cost, and probability | You can name a target and explain how the result helps your formation or Link plan. |
For every option, compare four things in the same order: the current cost, the listed probability, the exact target or reward pool, and whether the result advances your immediate team or a longer-term Link plan. If one of those four is unknown, open the in-game details instead of guessing.

Spending rules that prevent common beginner mistakes
Do not chase a banner without checking its end
Limited events and summon notices are published regularly, and their featured Fighters rotate. A recommendation that was sensible during one event can be obsolete when you read it. Make a screenshot or note of the displayed end time and revisit the notice before spending again.
Do not confuse a possible reward with a guaranteed one
Premium Summon can list DNA, tickets, boxes, and growth materials in its reward categories. That list describes what may appear, not what every pull contains. Read the probability panel and reward conditions attached to the current banner.
Do not spend mismatched DNA
Link requires attribute-matched DNA. Solar, Lunar, and Stellar items are not interchangeable merely because they are all called DNA. Open the destination Fighter’s Link screen first.
Do not treat a headline promotion as a permanent entitlement
The Korean game listing includes promotional language about 3,000 summons and 210,000 rubies, but the retrieved page does not establish universal entitlement, region, edition, timing, or offer conditions. Do not budget around those numbers unless the live client presents the offer to your account.
Do not upgrade blindly after a failed battle
A failed stage can reflect positioning or a stage effect rather than insufficient overall power. Check the enemy preview, Infinity buffs where applicable, and your frontline placement before consuming every growth item.
Paid items, probabilities, and responsible spending
Netmarble’s official listing says that paid items are available and that probability-based items are included. The Premium Summon guide explains the mechanics and reward categories but does not provide a complete current probability table in the accessible text. Before using paid currency or real money, open the live summon details, confirm the displayed rate and target, and decide on a spending limit that you can keep regardless of the result.
Do not compare banners by marketing rarity alone. A lower-rarity result that completes your active formation can be more useful than a higher-rarity item with no available upgrade path. If the rate, pity condition, purchase limit, or event deadline is not visible, postpone the decision until the game supplies that information.
Progression checkpoints without a rigid schedule
At the start
Learn where AFK rewards, team formation, summon details, Link, and challenge entrances are located. Build a functional five-Fighter formation before trying to optimize a future collection.
Before Fighter Summon Level 5
Use summons only when they improve the roster or Photo Card plan as well as earning Premium Points. Keep notes on the current cost and stop if the next pull has no identifiable benefit.
At Premium Summon unlock
Set the pickup target deliberately, read the full reward and probability panels, and decide whether the target helps now or only after several future Links. Changing the target is allowed, so recheck it whenever your objective changes.
When a Link becomes affordable
Confirm Fighter Origin, matching Solar/Lunar/Stellar DNA, and the post-Link cost. The increasing cost of subsequent Links means that a single confirmation should be considered alongside the next duplicate you intend to pursue.
When progress stalls
Claim AFK income, inspect challenge rewards, compare your team with the enemy preview, change positions, and identify the least expensive upgrade that affects the next attempt. Avoid assuming that a new banner is the only solution.

Version, region, and live-client caveats
The Premium Summon and Link guide is dated September 15, 2025, while official forum notices continue into 2026. That difference matters: event banners, reward pools, prices, rates, and availability can change after a guide is published. The Korean listing and the English game description may also present different regional promotions. Use the current in-game notice, summon-detail panel, and item tooltips for final values.
No complete public list establishes every currency’s earning rate, the exact daily reset time, a universal beginner summon priority, or a ranked challenge schedule. Those omissions are reasons to inspect the live screens, not reasons to fill in a number from an unrelated version.
Quick Recap
A compact decision checklist
- Have I claimed the available AFK rewards?
- What is blocking my next stage: power, formation, a stage effect, or an unlock?
- Which challenge modes are available now, and what rewards do their screens display?
- What is the current summon cost, probability, target, pool, and end date?
- Am I earning Premium Points toward Fighter Summon Level 5, or am I spending for a different stated reason?
- Does the result help my active five-Fighter team or a specific Link plan?
- Do I have the correct Fighter Origin and attribute DNA, and have I checked the higher cost of the next Link?
- Is this a paid or probability-based purchase I would still accept if it produces the least favorable listed result?
