The Kmart Anko SL163E is a 2400W-rated barrel vacuum, but its headline wattage is not a measure of how well it cleans. CHOICE gave the tested model a 60% Expert Rating and reported 1420W measured power, alongside a 2.2L dust collector and 7.4m reach. Those figures make the independent test more useful than the wattage claim when deciding whether this vacuum suits your home.
What is the Anko SL163E?
The SL163E is a bagless barrel vacuum sold under Kmart’s Anko brand. The Kmart-hosted manual identifies the model as “SL163E” and “Rev 1,” and cautions that specifications or components may change without notice. CHOICE’s product page lists the same model. Its test result applies to the tested SL163E, not automatically to every 2400W Anko vacuum currently listed by Kmart.

Kmart’s current product listing describes a “2400W Bagless Vacuum” but does not identify SL163E in the retrieved product details. That listing is useful for understanding what Kmart currently advertises, but it does not establish that the live product is the same revision as CHOICE’s tested vacuum.
How did the SL163E perform in CHOICE’s test?
CHOICE lists a 60% Expert Rating for the SL163E and describes it among the lowest-scoring vacuums in its test. The page does not state the test year in the available product details, so this rating should be treated as CHOICE’s result for the model it tested—not as a forecast of every owner’s experience or a current head-to-head ranking.

Care and troubleshooting from the manual
Always unplug the vacuum before maintenance, cleaning or replacing parts. For the model-specific removal and reassembly procedure, use the SL163E manual.
If suction is weak
- Check the hose and vacuum for blockages.
- Clean the filters and empty the dust canister.
- Check that the suction-relief valve on the hose handle is closed.
If the vacuum is noisy
- Check for a partial blockage.
- Clean the filters and empty the dust canister.
Cleaning the filter
The manual says to remove the dust canister and filters. If a filter is very dirty, it permits washing; otherwise, it recommends tapping the filter’s edge against a hard surface to dislodge dust. Follow the manual’s instructions and ensure components are dry where required before putting them back together.

Warranty, support and replacement accessories
The SL163E manual specifies a 12-month warranty, advises keeping the receipt and directs customers to Kmart customer support if they have difficulty. It gives this specific instruction: “If the Hose, Floor Head or any Accessories should fail during use, please call 1300 105 888 for an immediate replacement.” The instruction is from the Kmart-hosted Rev 1 manual; it does not confirm present stock, delivery arrangements or availability of replacement filters.

Should you buy the Kmart Anko SL163E?
CHOICE’s 60% Expert Rating is the clearest independent test signal available for this model, and the publication placed it among the lower-scoring vacuums in its test. That makes the SL163E difficult to recommend on the strength of its 2400W label alone. The tested figures—particularly the 2.2L measured dust capacity, 7.4m reach and 5.9kg weight—help describe the appliance, but they do not overturn the test result.
If you are considering a vacuum currently listed by Kmart, first confirm its model number and package details: the retrieved listing does not establish that the current 2400W product is the tested SL163E. For any version, assess the independent cleaning result and practical fit for your home rather than treating wattage as a performance score.
